One of many small sacrifices they make on a daily basis without even recognizing it!

Very cool photo!
It does put things into perspective, doesn't it?
And my sincere appreciation for all that they, and their families, do.

Their seats are all in the upright position doesn't look like there's room to recline if they wanted to!

They suck it up so that the rest of us can complain about reclining seats. Puts it into perspective!

I admire the sacrifices my dad and these men and women continually make for us.
At the same time, I recognize that if I'm personally shelling over my hard earned money for an over priced seat, I reserve the right to recline and complain if I can't.
It doesn't an any way, shape, or form diminish what these men and women have done and continue to do for our country anymore than complaining about how hot it is in the US does when these people are in heavy fatigues in the sandbox.

They do have leg room though... . Only the 'seats' along the side. The center seats are closer together than steerage on a commercial airline.

Really, it's an apples to oranges kind of thing. Because the military packs their people in like sardines does not mean that we, the flying public, should be forced to sit for 4 or more hours with somebody else's hair in our face. With a fully reclined seat it's impossible for the person behind them to exit.
It's not that I don't appreciate the military and all they do to keep us safe but telling us to STFU seems pretty unnecessary.

I never understood the argument that you shouldn't complain because someone else has it worse. Someone somewhere will always have it worse than you and I'm sure many of us appreciate how lucky we are. Doesn't mean I don't deserve to get what I paid for and be upset when I don't receive it.

While I totally have respect for these men and women (come from a Marine/Navy/Air Force family, although I did not serve) over paying commercially to be packed in like sardines is not the same so I do not think people need to STFU. My dad has such pain in his back and neck (was a marine and is 6'3") that he can not sit for a long flight anymore because the seats are so packed in. He can no longer come fly to visit us. We go to see them but when I am paying $1600 each for 4 people to fly, I expect to be able to put my seat back. I understand that much of the arguments come from the short flights.

well since my husband IS IN THE MILITARY let me enlighten you on his perspective on airline flights and I quote him directly: "When I travel on a on C130 (or any other Military plane) I expect to have the minimal seating, but if I am flying commercial and I have to PAY for my seat I should be able to have a higher level of comfort." and this is my Opinion... It's interesting to me that people here are blaming passengers for the seating situation to begin with. We really ought to be holding the airline(s) accountable for creating it in the first place. There is no excuse for the seats to be as packed together as they are; and the argument that public wants lower prices is baloney, if people want(or have to)fly they will pay the price to do so if that is what the price is. NO WE SHOULD NOT STFU . If we(the flying consumer) want change, then we need to voice our displeasure with the airline(s) DIRECTLY IN WRITING. If more people spoke up, then maybe things would change. ETA: and another thing...how about actually ASKING someone in the military how they feel about this issue instead of posting a photo and then assuming you know how they feel about commercial airlines. Military personal are. after all. individuals, with individual opinions.

I have been on this type of transport plane, and yes, it is a noisy uncomfortable trip because the planes are not solely passenger planes but are converted to carry everything from tanks to smaller planes. That said, I do think there should be a few more inches between seats on commercial airlines so people can recline and still allow leg and face room for the passenger behind. I had my first airplane flight in 1968, back when we dressed up to the nines to fly, and have been flying ever since, and never has airline travel been worse than in the past decade or so.
It wouldn't be so bad on a short flight, but sitting like that for hour after hour is asking for problems, personal, physical and emotional.

I don't get your point at all. It is apples and oranges, for sure. I bet plenty of military personnel actually want a little comfort when they fly commercially in a seat they paid for.
And let us not forget that not everyone is trained or in as good of shape as military personnel. Many people who fly or either elderly, infirm, obese, or a combination of the three. They may need the extra room and comfort.
I no longer recline my seat, but I wouldn't be angry with someone in front of me who does.
But the little kid behind me banging on the seat and playing with his fold-down tray.....that's another story.

Agreed! I've been on C17s and C5s numerous times in my life, it's probably the most comfortable to me though. Once the plane is in the air, you can get out of your seats, throw down a sleeping bag and take a nap. And those flights were always free so the loud noise and cold temps keep me from complaining. If I'm paying $$$ to fly on a plane, I do expect the conditions to be better and more catered to a customer.

They do have leg room though... Only if you are sitting against the side of the plane. Those middle rows look like their knees are probably pushing into the back of the seat in front of them.

Those are comfort pallets and they have much more leg room than commercial airliners. And the seats do recline pretty far but just like commercial flights, you have to put your seat upright on take off and landing. I'd much rather fly in a comfort pallet than on an airliner. Those folks are not sardines, the flight is just full.

My dad served 25 years and has been on that flight many, many, many times. I get it quite well. I never understood the argument that you shouldn't complain because someone else has it worse. Someone somewhere will always have it worse than you and I'm sure many of us appreciate how lucky we are. Doesn't mean I don't deserve to get what I paid for and be upset when I don't receive it. But the pea who said this? Summed it up perfectly.

I think the real issue is how far back someone reclines. You can recline so that you leave enough space for the person behind you to function or you can recline the full way and practically have your head in their lap. It's all about consideration. JMHO of course.
