Thought a poll might be fun.

To answer my own question, I voted less excited than I was when I first started.
Not because I don't absolutely love scrapbooking. I do. It's just my circumstances are different. The scrappy world is different.
When I first started scrapbooking over a decade ago, I had a preschooler and a brand new baby. I was happily married to my high school sweetheart. We had our own home, and he had a great career, and I was a SAHM. And we had disposable income. Fun money!
I was at a point in my life where a vacation was a possibility (we took two!). There was just so much to look forward to.
Not to mention, there were LSSs. An abundance of them.
I still look forward to scrapbooking. Still love when I get fun photos to scrap.
But it's a little less exciting now that it feels like there is nothing new in products to experience. And because of my life circumstances, I don't have much fun money to just buy scrapbook goodies for the heck of it.

I'm going to change Scrapbooking to Cardmaking and answer, because I rarely SB any more and when I do I'm way less excited about it than when I started.
When I started making cards circa 1991 or 1992, I went to a SU! party, had a party and that was it. I didn't have a lot of money, there wasn't anyone to watch do it and I felt like I was doing it all wrong. Now that I'm older, have more money to spend and there are blogs, YT, and a greater variety of products I feel that I like it better.
Plus now I have a group of friends that we get together once a month for an afternoon and make several cards of one design or technique. The hostess picks the design and provides the supplies. And periodically we do a sleepover Friday, Saturday, Sunday at one of our houses.

I said about the same. I go through periods when I’m loving it and others when I burn out. When I get burned out I make cards. I get bored easily with crafting so sometimes it takes a new tequnique or tool to spark my excitement.

I treated it as more of an activity in the beginning. Now I see it as important and a competitive sport for getting great deals.

Probably more. When I started in 2004 I really didn’t get scrapping and just made a few pages at crops to get out of the house.
In 2008 i really started to get into it but by then all the scrap stores here were gone plus I didn’t have much money or a permanent space in my house to scrap.
Now I have a small budget, my own permanent corner of the house and don’t have babies needing me all day... also I sort of have found my style so I’m usually happy with my pages.

I am on my phone so I'll log an official vote tomorrow from my computer but I would have to say I am more excited about it and less excited about it.
I am more excited because I enjoy my return to paper. I like the challenge of trying to use what I have to it's best advantage. I'm excited about getting my photos scrapped. I enjoy the creativity. And I am finding that when I am feeling good I can really enjoy it.
What I find less exciting is that there just isn't as much hype as there used to be. I miss magazines. I did love the two peas gallery. I admit I don't visit this gallery as much but I feel like I'm doing this for myself and my kids. It almost feels good not to be driven by the products. I have a smaller budget than I used to have. I am even feeling like I am creating with less waste.
I have to say I feel some the hey day of scrapbooking felt pressured. I don't feel that anymore. I feel very comfortable in the place that I am.

I’m actually more excited. When I started scrapping I kind of just followed the trends since I didn’t really know what I liked and what my style was. Now that I’ve been scrapping for years I’m more comfortable doing what I want and what makes me happy. I scrap for fun and to be creative. Of course I still check out ideas on companies’ blogs and the galleries here for ideas.

I loved it from the beginning, but now I am lucky enough to have more time to spend on it. I started out trying to retroactively capture my kids' lives, just catching the high points. Today I scrap my adventures with dgk's, so scrapbooking gives me double the fun while I relive the fun. Taking the pictures and planning the pages has become a precious shared activity.
We are lucky to still have several stores accessible to us, and a couple of crops a year.

I loved it SOOO much at the beginning......
I LOVE IT MORE NOW.
Even w/older kids. Even w/less LSS. Even w/same-y supplies.
Because it's taught me to make my own stuff. It's taught me to make mini layouts (in pocket pages) that capture little moments that make me smile when I go back to them. It's taught me to have SO much fun w/supplies.
Still WAY IN LOVE w/SCRAPPING!

I still enjoy it but I have to say that when I started I had a new baby and each photo was just so precious. Iwould get up early in the morning to scrap before the kids woke up. Now I have two teens. I’m lucky If I can get a couple of pictures of them during Christmas!

I vote more excited because I now have a young niece to scrap (she’s 4 years old) plus some of my tools are much better than what I used when I first started out (my Cameo is one example).

This was a hard poll. We are not suppose to think about these answers, lol. I picked Other. I still love to scrapbook. It has turned more into writing journals. It is just me & my DH. We are not big into taking pictures of each other. We take a lot of pictures of our animals. Even I have limits when it comes to making scrapbooks. One or two pet albums are super cute. Thirty-Five would be overkill, lol. Three of four pictures a month in my journal makes me happy. I am excited about how I evolved. I started off art scrapbooking. Heyday came I played with the trends. Now I am back to my art. My art has evolved. I am excited about that. I am not happy about how the industry has evolved. It used to be our blogs and magazines. We watched our stars kids grow up and become adults. As scrapbook artists we had our stars who we admired their style and found to be our own tribe. We enjoyed their products. All the social media networks came into play and now we know way too much. Some days I feel like I need to rinse my eyes out with lye. I miss the day when I thought Dear Lizzy was a company. Now I know it is run by a lady with a slut shaming husband, for example. I cried last night when I packed away my Dear Lizzy items to donate. The stars deciding to show us their all to promote their business has made me feel very leery and jaded towards the industry. I also like it because I tell you all the time over here. I am glad to know about it. I can stop making money mistakes. I do miss the innocence and kindness of our industry. I think our product quality has gone down. All our "new" tools are reissues. I miss the day of beautiful thick gorgeous paper. I miss Sassafrass Lass. I don't know if it is my experience level but I don't get excited about techniques any more. I used to be like paper piecing!!!! tear bears!!!! make your own photo corners!!!!! OMG it all so exciting and I had to do it all. Now, I am like "Yes, that has been done already." "Ugh!"

I agree with both of these. I definitely miss some of that contagious excitement that came from so much new shiny different stuff but I also feel like I'm in a really good place. I voted more excited now. I know my style, I love my stash, I really love the pages I'm making (most of the time at least). I've realised story and context is the most important thing to me so I have no qualms about throwing out or re-working a page that doesn't say what I want it to. I barely go a day without either reading about, thinking about, or actually scrapping.

I'm way less excited. When I started scrapping in 2005, there were LSS and crops galore. It was so exciting to meet new people and try new techniques and every page I produced was so exciting. Then I started teaching and being published and it was just thrilling (I'll never forget that first LO in a magazine and OMG, my first LO on the BG Gallery squeeeee!). Now, I think the only reason I scrap is for the DT I'm on and I do one blog post per month, that's about all the scrapping I do. I am looking forward to the Feb challenge on here and I want to try and do a LO every day in Feb

Idk really, either more or same as when I started. Maybe more now, but now its more therapeutic I thought about it more and realized that I love it way more now. Now that my kids are older, I truly enjoy reliving their childhood memories. It means more to me now, then it used to. crystalb is someone I scrap chat a lot with and for me its so motivating and makes me happy. No there aren't a lot of new and exciting products like there once was, but I think it would just overwhelm me anyway! I do miss scrap mags, but between this board and Pinterest I can find plenty of inspiration(and enabling) lol!

Well, I started scrapbooking in 1997 (if you don’t count my high school years in the 70s/80s). I have grown so much more and have a passion for so many more things than just scrapbooking. I LOVE mixed media, and I use it on my scrapbook pages but I also didn’t do ONE scrapbook page last year. I am doing my PL this year, and I think I have just evolved into doing many more things related to memory keeping (journaling, etc.). Hard to explain so I answered “other” in the poll.

I checked less excited. I started in 1998, and got to experience the peak time of scrapbooking. Magazines, LSS, tons of new and innovative product, it was awesome!
I agree with so much of what has been said on this thread re the lessening popularity of our hobby, and the TMI of many of the SB "influencers."
I do strictly pocket pages now, but treat each pocket as a mini layout. I still get a little buzz from thinking about a particular picture to scrap, even if I don't have as many pics now with DS grown and on his own. A new kit coming in the mail, and yes, even even my small order from the SC mega mega sale still makes me happy!

I am still excited about it the same, except in one aspect. Whenever I am near a scrapbook shopping opportunity, like an actual LSS or convention vendor floor, I get very excited. With fewer opportunities for that type of thing, I have fewer opportunities to get excited.
When it comes to going to a crop I still get excited, but I also get trepidation because I want the crop set up to be conducive to my preferred scrapping needs.

I started scrapbooking around 14 years ago. Over the last 6 I’ve been on again-off again, but I just started back up after about three years of not doing anything. I’m MORE excited! Everything is new to me. All the products out there, shopping my own stash and rediscovering what I had. I’m also more experienced and comfortable with my own style to actually enjoy it and do it for me, and not stress out about how it turns out, or Design Team deadlines, etc.
I haven’t been super conveniently close to a good LSS (at least one that carries things in my style) for about 12 years, so I’ve always done the majority of my shopping online. It’s an occasional treat to trek an hour and a half to St.Pete to visit the amazing one up there!

I still love scrapbooking. I voted the same, because I still enjoy it.
I do miss Friday night crops and scrapbooking with my sister. She no longer scrapbooks and all the stores within an hour of me are gone.

I started in 1998 again, in the heyday of scrapbooking. I also live in AZ which is probably second only to UT in being "the" place to be lol. There was a lot of buzz at that time and I had scrapbooking friends IRL. Good times. I also had little kids, was a single mom and had little income at that time so my excitement far exceeded my budget lol. Now, they are grown, moved out and my income has greatly increased. Now I can't find an LSS or IRL scrapping buddy to save my life. No more magazines or idea books...sniff sniff. But I have the time, and a whole room and lots of supplies. I take online classes and have online scrapbooking friends. I am still just as excited and probably more so..because the more time to scrap that I have, the more I want to scrap. So, I guess my answer is I am more excited, but it really is so different. And, as an aside mamas who are not caught up...one day you WILL run out of pictures

Definitely love it more now. When I started I scrapped at the dining room table and I had very limited space and supplies. Today I have a dedicated room and gadgets that make scrapbooking and card making so much easier! I've never really had a lot of time but I still relish every second I get to spend scrapbooking and/or card making!

I started scrapping in 2001 when I had only one child and she was under 2.
I love scrapping more now because a) I’m a happier person and b) it doesn’t feel so required. Like I felt like I was supposed to document all these baby things just like everyone else. Now, my kids are doing things that set them apart from everyone else kids. They are unique individuals and I like celebrating that. Plus, my life is something I love documenting now too.

Hard to say. Less because my life is much more boring and my son is very demanding. More because I no longer care about doing it for others or feel that I must scrap about myself. I choose whatever I feel like scrapping.

Less excited now, but scrapbooking is still very much a part of my life. It's like when you fall in love with someone: at first, you are giddy and can't think about anything else. When you aren't with them, you are thinking about them. That was how scrapbooking was for me at first.
Now I still love it but it's less frantic and more just a part of my life. Something that makes my life better. Sometimes I get giddy again and sometimes it frustrates me, but I always come back to it.

I said "the same" as the start...but to me that's equal to 2000, but down from the "heydays" of scrapbooking (2003-2010 for me) when I was on the DT for a kit club and was generally very excited about my hobby.
However, looking back at old scrapbooks, I am more excited about my recent style/pages than the "heyday" pages!
