Yaaay, so glad you were able to save him! I am angry the poor guy was thrown outside in a pen. DH and I have wanted a Dane for years and years. We have a Golden Retriever we rescued a year ago and she still has fear issues, but once she is over that we plan to rescue a Dane. Have fun!!

What a cutie!I love dogs with freckles. I'm so glad you took him from those people who clearly are not cut out to be dog owners (the person's medical problems notwithstanding).

Poor guy. So glad you took him in! I bet he was so confused and scared. 4 months is very young to be essentially abandoned. I get having an ill child, but at least take the pup to a shelter or something...sorry..it makes me angry that he was thrown outside like garbage.
He is so handsome!

Oh goodness, I can see why you were smitten, what a beauty! My best advice for the chewing is to give him something else to chew on immediately (nylabone, kong, etc). I can commiserate with a puppy. We have a 10 week old sweet yellow lab named Finn. He loves to chew as well!

Wow you must really go through the dog food with three Great Danes! (and the poop!)
So you will have about 400-500 pounds of dogs when he is grown?
So cute!

Wow you must really go through the dog food with three Great Danes! (and the poop!) So you will have about 400-500 pounds of dogs when he is grown? So cute! Our Willow is currently 130 and we jokingly call Roxxane our “teacup Dane” because she only weighs 95. I imagine this boy is going to be huge. Our male we lost last year was 160 at his prime. I imagine this boy will be around that He’s about 4 months and weighed 42 pounds yesterday.

Ridiculously cute! So glad you rescued him!!!
Here is my advice for chewing.*
Keep all your expensive shoes away from him.
Sigh. I lost a lot of shoes to my last puppy. When he went through all my shoes, he ate the bottom of the stairs. I honestly do not believe he was alone more than 5 minutes when he was out of his crate, but with 3 kids, you do not know.
*My advice in this area obviously sucks. Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone for your sweet comments and suggestions. We have been trying keeping toys in our hands to put in his mouth but he’s so rambunctious and hyper focused on our hands, it’s exhausting.
Now that the girls have had their introductions and he’s had his first vet visit, we’re going to use them to help with his training as well. Our Roxxane is already being a bit of a mama hen to him, and scolds him when he jumps on the baby gates (and he listens to her and settles down on his bed). So I think she’s going to be a good helper with his training. She’ll definitely teach him not to chew on her.
I’m going to get a couple of Kongs today. Our Walmart didn’t have any so I’m checking the Walmart in the town I work. If I can’t find any, I’ll order from Amazon today. I also need to pick up a couple of rope toys, as he’s enjoyed playing with a stuffed fox toy that has rope arms, so it’s been one of the few toys that gets his mouth off of us.

What a doll. I'm so glad you brought him home, my heart breaks imagining him stuck outside in a pen alone. I love those big puppy paws. All of your dogs are adorable, I hope they learn to love each other!

So cute. My mom has raised Great Danes- and has been part of a rescue as well. Most of our/her dogs were fawn colored, but she adopted a blue dane that she rescued. Unfortunately, he passed away less than a year after she got him.

He is so adorable!!! It's so wonderful that you were able to take him into your home when he so desperately needed a new home, and it sounds like he found the perfect home with your family because you are already experienced Great Dane owners. I love huge dogs and am really partial to them over other dog breeds. The first dog my family got when I was a kid was when I was 8 and we got a Saint Bernard. I've always loved Great Danes but have never had the chance to have one. My parents currently have a Bernese Mountain Dog so when I want a big dog "fix" I got see them (they live close by) and hug on Max. I was just there earlier tonight. I hope you, your husband, and your 2 other Great Danes have a wonderful time welcoming your new puppy into your home as he adjusts to the warmth and fun of his new surroundings. Here's to many more years of happiness for all of you!

On the day that I adopted Maddie, my Himalayan mix, I saw the two biggest dogs I have ever seen. An adult Great Dane was visiting the rescue center, and when I took her to my vet for an evaluation, Titan, a St. Bernard, was there.

Oh my, your dogs are beautiful. Welcome Niklaus.
My niece has a Great Dane. She also has a nearly one year old daughter that is having some trouble teething. My niece said she is way worse than Rufus was as a puppy. Rufus chewed all kinds of crazy things and people. Apparently you can't get anywhere near her mouth or she tries chewing and "gnawing" on you. Now she is walking and they are all scared of her. Niece said there are chew toys All. Over. The. House.

I've had multiple dogs my whole life and the best thing I ever did was bring a trainer to our house weekly for 6 weeks when we got an older puppy. She's the best trained dog I've ever owned and it was worth every penny. It was especially great for the kids to observe too. Good luck and it is so awesome you have given him a loving home!

ohhhhhh my goodness what a sweet face and of course he's landed in the perfect place!
Hubby and I said no more big dogs, but there's nothing like it. We've got a 70 lb rescue pitty (he was the runt of the litter - I am worried what else this guy has in him) - and hubby repeatedly tells me "nothing bigger". I'll delight in going home tonight and showing him your pup!!
Ours is a nibbler too - and we found that putting our hand in a fist and saying "no bite" works and he now understands the word "kisses". He'd much rather nibble though - so far he's nibbled all the legs of our chairs and the rungs of a dining room chair. We keep heavy duty chew toys handy in a basket and we notice if he's excited he'll run and get one and chew on it like crazy until it passes. Perhaps an idea?
