That's what started us doing this. Our son went to college at Tulane. What an experience for him and us. We all grew to love the food of New Orleans. Every year we would make a Fat Tuesday feast and my kids invited their friends over. They all helped in the cooking. It was a true labor of love... and made great memories. We have since moved to another state so we want to do this with our new friends now! Some said they're not Catholic so don't partake. I'm not Catholic so don't do Lent. I'm also not Jewish but do a night of their holiday favorites as well ! It's all about the food, traditions and celebration with family and friends for us. We even had New Orleans food when the Saints were in the Super Bowl! I love that you will start a tradition like that! It really is a lot of fun. You can even add a little decor... beads etc. Here's a link to my VERY OLD blog from 2009 of our feast then! OUR NEW ORLEAN'S FEAST...It's not just the Catholics who "do" Lent. Most mainline Protestant denominations observe it also. I don't know about the non-denominational churches. Yes, my parents and inlaws are Methodist, and they have lenten lunches every Wednesday at both of their churches, they have all kinds of Lenten events. They talk about doing good deeds as an option instead of giving up something. I always thought it was more of a Protestant thing, but realize lots celebrate lent!

I know that but someone mentioned not being Catholic so didn't do Lent or Fat Tuesday. I didn’t know the traditional meal was pancakes. I never heard of the pancakes either.

Why we eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday

Fat Tuesday here is just... Tuesday. Other than paczki (which I think are disgusting), I've never heard of anyone doing anything for it. Middle of winter, work/school night makes it kind of tough

I have lived on the west coast all my life and also have never heard of anyone doing anything special for Fat Tuesday. Didn't even know the term. I was also raised thinking that only Catholics "did" Lent. Another thing I have learned from the Peas.

Fat Tuesday here is just... Tuesday. Other than paczki (which I think are disgusting), I've never heard of anyone doing anything for it. Middle of winter, work/school night makes it kind of tough I love to cook and loved having my family enjoy traditional food from other countries, religions and holidays. My son went to college in New Orleans and we just loved the food and the 'vibe' that NOLA offers. After he graduated, he mentioned to us that he missed having some of the food. I decided to make a feast on Fat Tuesday and my kids invited some of their friends to join us. Everyone had a great time so we kept the tradition. We've moved and our 4 kids are now married and living in other states. We will now be doing Fat Tuesday with our new friends!
