Last night I was feeling crafty and finally broke out the Freckled Fawn mixed media kit that I bought a year ago. First off, let me say that I can see why they didn't sell very well. While I like the texture paste and stencil, I have no use for the mist (Mandarin Mai Tai) and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to use the tissue paper, although I think it's pretty. I gave the stamp away to a Pea because I just wasn't feeling it.
Anyway, my DD 11 and I had a great time playing with other mists that I have along with the gelato that came in the kit. I also now understand why you need to put Gesso on your paper before you start. We did one with and one without and there was a marked difference. I also need to invest in a water brush and some more gelatos. We've decided to make Valentine's for her closest friends this weekend with our new found supplies.
So much fun!

Isn't it fun to play with this stuff?
What type of tissue paper is it? Vicki Boutin has a line of reactive colour tissue that I want to try: you can use it to transfer colour. Regular tissue you can crumple up then smooth out and glue down to your project for texture. And you can colour it with mists.
Hope you and your dd have a blast making the valentines. Would love to see them.
Oh, and now you have me wanting to get messy with my neglected mm supplies!

I love that you and your DD are playing with the kit together. I could never get my DD interested in crafty things.

I was going to say, not to discount tissue paper, it is one of my most used art journaling supplies. I like the texture it brings (I use dress patterns the same way). I see Dee has already explained a bit about it. The art reactive tissue paper is fun to play with.
I'm so glad you are doing it with your dd. My dd and I work on mixed media together too. She loves it.
I'm sure your valentine cards will be absolutely adorable!

It’s thicker than regular tissue paper but I think it’s the pattern that is getting me stuck.

Have fun. Once I stared mixed media (over 8+ years ago), I never looked back. LOVE playing with paints, liquid India inks, etc. It’s become my passion!

I use tissue paper all the time in project life. I like to tear it and pop it behind an instax print or smaller photo and attach them to a journaling card. That floral paper would be lovely on a white, neutral card.

Oh I love it but things never work for me how I want them to, it's so frustrating! One of the other girls on my DT does the most amazing things with mixed media and I'm so jealous of her abilities! I see her pages, get inspired, try and things don't work the same for me. Have fun this weekend cat2007!

I tossed it in the trash!

I tossed it in the trash! streetscrapper and kiwigirl, I have had those moments too, and have certainly tossed my share of "failed" mixed media projects--or cut them up into small pieces or tucked them behind other elements on a sb page so not much would show. I think the key is not to have a vision of how this will look when I am done. Every piece looks completely unique, even when using the same materials. So when I accept that and just play I will often come up with something I really love--sometimes by surprise!

We had a pleasant surprise when we mixed the gold modeling paste with a Heidi Swapp sweet cherry mist. Instant rose gold! So pretty!
