Be patient with me please. I'm attempting to get back into photography and scrapbooking after many years. I'm planning on upgrading to PSE 2018. My Mac has osx High Sierra installed, so my current versions of Lightroom (3) and PSE (10) no longer are compatible. So, the last time I used PSE, i downloaded directly into PSE organizer. When I started using Lightroom it further confused things when I would send a file to pse to further edit. Does it make sense to download into my own folders first and only bring images into pse to edit. I remember my files were a complete wreck in the past and i want to keep my images better organized this time. I won't be upgrading my Lightroom so i'm hoping raw images can be processed adequately in pse. Any tips on organizing my images would be most appreciated. I will have to go back and reorganize 25 years of images... New images would be taken in Raw format so I guess it would be fine to put the raw images into the folders? or is there a better way to do that? Should I convert to dng first? I'll probably be posting an additional question regarding raw images once I figure this part out. Thanks for reading. The best organization is the one that makes sense to you. My pre CS organization was to create files based on date taken in a yy/mm/day format so they would be in sequential order. Photos taken today would go in a file labeled 20180214. Usually I have a good idea of what year a photo was taken and the season. This file number allowed me to find what I wanted pretty easy. If I took a lot of photos of different things on that date I might create subfolders with event names to cut down on searching through. I put raw images in the files and haven't had a problem. I only bother to convert them when I know I am ready to edit the.

I use Photoshop only for editing photos. I never use PSE Organizer. I download my pictures from my camera and save them directly to my pictures folder on my desktop. I find it easier to organize my photos first by year, then by month, and finally by event or activity. I only bring photos into Photoshop when I am ready to edit them. After editing each photo, I choose "save as" and then designate which folder to save it to. That works well for me, and I can usually find what I want quickly.
Do whatever makes the most sense to you.
