'Man of mystery' cooperates with Mueller in Russia probeBy Shimon Prokupecz, Kara Scannell and Sara Murray, CNN Updated 8:33 PM ET, Tue March 6, 2018 (CNN)A Middle East specialist with ties to Donald Trump's team attended secret meetings during the presidential transition between the United Arab Emirates and Trump associates, and is now cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller, two people familiar with the matter say. George Nader, a low-profile diplomatic go-between who has forged close ties to the Emirates, was stopped and questioned by the FBI at Dulles International Airport in January as he returned from an overseas trip, these sources say. Since then, he has been talking to Mueller's investigators and providing information to the grand jury. Nader attended a December 2016 meeting in New York between Emirati officials and members of Trump's inner circle, and another in January 2017 in the Seychelles islands between the Emiratis and Erik Prince, a Trump associate. Nader was also in the Seychelles when Prince met with a Russian banker, the sources said. The special counsel's questions about the Emiratis point to an investigation that has expanded beyond Russian meddling in the 2016 election to broader concerns about foreign influence during the presidential campaign and long after it concluded. The Washington Post reported last week that at least four countries, including the United Arab Emirates, have discussed ways they could compromise Jared Kushner, the President's son-in-law. ** Nader learned for the first time when he returned to Dulles that the special counsel was interested in him and the information he had about key sessions, at least two of which he personally attended. The FBI agents with search warrants imaged his electronic devices and then served him with a grand jury subpoena ordering him to appear January 19, according to a person familiar with Nader's involvement. An agreement was reached that Nader appear for questioning with Mueller's investigators. The December 2016 New York meeting occurred without the prior knowledge of the Obama administration. It was led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi. At least three members of the Trump team attended, including Kushner; Michael Flynn, then slated to become national security adviser; and Steve Bannon, strategist to the incoming President. The existence of the meetings in New York and the Seychelles became public in report published by The Washington Post in April 2017, but much about them remains mysterious. Nader attended a meeting in the Seychelles between the Emiratis and Prince, people familiar with the session told CNN. Nader was also present at the bar when Prince met with Kirill Dmitriev, the chief executive of the state-run Russian Direct Investment Fund, although it is unclear whether he was involved in the conversation, these people say. After the election ended, Nader maintained contact with senior administration officials, including Bannon and Kushner, according to sources familiar with the situation. The White House, Nader's lawyer and the special counsel's office declined to comment. The Embassy for the United Arab Emirates did not respond to requests for comment. Nader's 'stunningly authentic contacts'Nader, a 58-year-old Lebanese-American, has kept a low profile even among Middle East experts in the US. "He is a man of mystery," said Frederic Hof, director of the Atlantic Council's Middle East center. "Until this recent flurry of interest in him, I don't think I've even heard his name mentioned for 12 years." One Middle East expert was stunned to hear that Nader, who travels frequently, maintained an address in Washington. Another expressed surprise at finding out Nader was still alive because he had disappeared from public view. ** In private testimony before the House Intelligence Committee last year, Prince denied any wrongdoing and strongly denied that anyone on Trump's team asked him to take the meeting. He said he was invited to the Seychelles by someone working for the crown prince and met with a group there for an hour. It was a member of the Emirati entourage, Prince said, who recommended he meet with Dmitriev to discuss business opportunities. The meeting with Dmitriev, he said, lasted about a half hour after dinner over a beer. A spokesman for Prince said his client has no comment beyond his testimony. Or is the country finally able to admit that Hillary was right about the basket of deplorables who ushered in this deplorable administration?

Stormy must have pix. That's the only reason I think she would have been paid off at all. The original 'hush agreement' alludes to something like that.
So, if Stormy has pix, imagine what Vlad has.

tiny hands Tweet
“From Bush 1 to present, our Country has lost more than 55,000 factories, 6,000,000 manufacturing jobs and accumulated Trade Deficits of more than 12 Trillion Dollars. Last year we had a Trade Deficit of almost 800 Billion Dollars. Bad Policies & Leadership. Must WIN again! #MAGA”
Prompted this response from John O Brennan..
“You show an amazing albeit unsurprising ignorance of how technology, automation, and the attendant evolution of economics and societies have transformed the world. Your simple minded policies--imposition of tariffs--have the potential to seriously damage our future prosperity.”
Brennan is right. The Daily show did a 5 minute version of how automation is happening from self-driving vehicles to automated pizza makers.
The reality is trump is living in a world that no longer exists and is trying to drag this country into that world. And too many people are letting him.

linkAnd this is why the Democrats keep shooting themselves in the damn foot. First of all this is nothing but a “message bill” because it’s not going anywhere. Second it doesn’t address the real challenges facing the American workers which is automation and the lack of skilled workers. While there is no question the infrastructure needs to be fix it doesn’t do much to help the workforce that needs the help. “Democrats to unveil $1 trillion infrastructure plan, seek reversal of GOP tax cuts to finance it”
As the White House struggles to finance an ambitious infrastructure plan, Senate Democrats are proposing one alternative — albeit one unlikely to pass muster with President Trump: rolling back the recently passed Republican tax overhaul. The proposal to be unveiled by Democratic leaders Wednesday would plow just over $1 trillion into a wide range of infrastructure needs, including $140 billion for roads and bridges, $115 billion for water and sewer infrastructure and $50 billion to rebuild schools. The spending would be offset by clawing back two-thirds of the revenue lost in the Republican tax bill by reinstating a top income tax rate of 39.6 percent, restoring the individual alternative minimum tax, reversing cuts to the estate tax, and raising the corporate income tax from 21 percent to 25 percent. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in an interview Tuesday that the plan sets up a stark contrast for voters ahead of the midterm elections. We believe overwhelmingly the American people will prefer building infrastructure and creating close to 15 million middle-class jobs than giving tax breaks for the wealthy,” he said. Democrats are working to swing public opinion back against the GOP tax plan after months of stock market gains and corporations announcing worker raises and bonuses helped persuade the public that the tax package was a good thing. Now Democrats are trying to divert focus away from the middle-class benefits of the bill back to provisions that mainly benefit corporations and the wealthy, which account for the bulk of the cost of package’s cost. “Now that Republicans are realizing that the president’s plan is a nonstarter, and some of them have voiced that, we hope that this will importune them to move in our direction,” Schumer said. “I think as they get closer to the election, and they need some real program, something big and significant to get done this year . . . they may move in our direction or at the very minimum propose a real plan with real dollars on their own.” Although much of the Democratic plan would send money to traditional infrastructure priorities like highways, transit and waterways, Schumer highlighted less conventional spending priorities, including $40 billion to build high-speed Internet connections in rural areas and $80 billion to upgrade the country’s energy grid. Before Trump’s election, Schumer and many other Democrats had previously endorsed infrastructure plans that would have raised funds by forcing American companies to move their overseas profits back to the United States and taxing them at a discounted rate. But Republicans used that maneuver, known as repatriation, to help offset the cost of their tax cuts. That has left little choice, Schumer said, to finance a big infrastructure plan. Democratic leaders, like their Republican counterparts, have rejected one obvious alternative: raising the federal gasoline tax for the first time since 1993. “We’d rather have the very wealthy and corporations pay for it than average folks who drive,” he said. “

Continuing on what I guess is my rant for the day, is this from Brandon...
“Clinton won far fewer counties than Trump — she cleaned up in the more populous counties. But Clinton counties produced almost two-thirds of the country’s new jobs and nearly three-fourths of its economic growth in recent years.”
This brings up the question the rust belt states/folks who voted for trump because no one was listening to them should have asked. It’s “what do we need to do to get some of that???”

linkWhich brings me finally to this from Greg Sargent.. “Trump country is still in economic trouble, and Trump's tax cuts and trade war won't fix the problem. I've got new data from Brookings showing how deep the problems really run, with a lovely chart. You'll want to see this one:” Washington Post.. “ Under Trump, the ‘forgotten men and women’ are still forgotten” From the article... President Trump’s new plan for large tariffs on steel and aluminum — and the sudden resignation of his “globalist” chief economic adviser, Gary Cohn — suggest that protectionism and economic nationalism are ascendant inside the Trump White House. Trump defends the tariffs by claiming he’s “protecting our workers” — that is, the “forgotten men and women” that Trump got elected by championing. All of which should prompt renewed attention to the true nature of Trump’s economic agenda. Is it actually helping the forgotten men and women? And how far will it go in doing so over the remainder of Trump’s presidency? A new analysis from the Brookings Institution suggests that the answers are: No, not yet. And probably not too far. The new Brookings data — which was prepared at my request — also hints at a way for progressives and Democrats to take back from Trump his economic narrative about those forgotten men and women. The new Brookings analysis underscores a basic truth about our politics in the Trump era: The areas of the country that continue to capture and drive the largest share of the nation’s prosperity, amid the digital and information revolution, are the ones that, generally speaking, did not support Trump for president. The areas of the country that supported Trump overwhelmingly are the ones that continue to get left behind economically — even with Trump in office. Ron Brownstein has referred to this as “the prosperity paradox” of the Trump era, in which “the nation’s economic growth is being driven overwhelmingly by the places that are most resistant to him.” The new Brookings data illustrates regional disparities in employment growth data, broken down by population density. In recent years, beginning in 2010, the largest metropolitan areas have pulled away from the smaller and non-metro areas in terms of percentage of employment growth. This trend continued largely unabated during Trump’s first year: (There is a chart here but to see it you have to open the link 😀) The Brookings analysis (which expands on an earlier paper) is based on data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It finds: From 2010 to 2017, the largest metro areas — those of 1 million or more people — experienced 16.7 percent employment growth. Metro areas with between 250,000 and 1 million experienced 11.6 percent employment growth. But areas with fewer than 250,000 — small towns and cities — experienced a measly 0.4 percent employment growth, while non-metro areas — i.e., rural areas — experienced 4.4 percent employment growth. The author of this analysis, Mark Muro, a senior fellow at Brookings who is an expert on regional economies, calls this phenomenon “territorial inequality.” “The decade has been, on balance, lousy for small towns and rural areas, with job growth heavily tilted to big metros or larger mid-sized cities,” Muro told me. “Small towns and rural areas have been in trouble. The trend has largely continued.” There's more in the article along with the chart. But this is what we need to be working on. trump isn’t and it appears neither are the Democrats.

So Session comes to California to tell us he is going to waste my tax payer dollars by suing the state over its sanctuary policies. He implied that Oakland’s mayor put ICE Agents at risk when she warned that ICE was planning on doing sweeps across Northern California. Problem was everyone knew about it before the mayor said anything.
There is also a misconception that law enforcement officers of sanctuary cities will not work with ICE Agents under any circumstances and that is not true.
From CBS...
“California Gov. Jerry Brown calls out Jeff Sessions: “Look, we know the Trump administration is full of liars... The release records are public, and there's nothing that stops any sheriff who runs the jails to working with ICE.” (via CBS)”
Want to go after sanctuary cities? Fine but be truthful in your narrative instead of making things up and outright lying.

Former Trump adviser Icahn denies knowing about new tariffs before stock sell-offBY LUIS SANCHEZ - 03/07/18 01:00 PM EST "We don't generally comment on rumors, but the recent media speculation regarding our sale of Manitowoc stock calls for a response. We state for the record: Any suggestion that we had prior knowledge of the Trump administration's announcement of new tariffs on steel imports is categorically untrue. We reduced our position in Manitowoc for legitimate investment reasons having nothing to do with that announcement," Icahn said in a statement obtained by CNBC. One week before Trump announced the tariffs, Icahn sold $31.3 million worth of stock in the Manitowoc Co., a manufacturer of construction cranes. Companies that manufacture steel products are expected to be negatively affected by the tariffs, which will drive up steel prices. After Trump’s announcement, Manitowoc’s stock fell to $26. Icahn sold nearly 940,00 Manitowoc shares at about $32 to $34 each, even though he hadn’t been actively trading in the company’s stock for three years.
