I’ve been wanting to try these but the sets are a little pricey. I was at a store that sold them individually so I bought one to see how I liked it. I’d appreciate any tips or instruction video suggestions. Thanks.

i adore these! they're so easy to use. I like to use the with a waterbrush...lay down a line of color along the inner edge of your stamped imge, then use the water pen to 'pull' the color towards the center--creates a very pretty and subtle effect. have fuN!

I'm going to be the Debbie Downer here and say that I'm not crazy about these. I'm using the "right" paper, but mine still don't blend easily. Maybe it's because they aren't actually watercolor pens, and I'm used to using real watercolors. I'm very disappointed with them, and I'm going to use them now as regular markers. Maybe I'll like them better that way. They aren't refillable.

Nicol Spohr uses them a lot too in her videos. Paper is also important-I find they work best on Strathmore Bristol Smooth (haven’t tried anyone else’s bristol because already have this). Like all pens it takes some practice, but I like them.

I didn’t like them at all when I tried watercolor paper. The line never blended out and I tried a few different kinds. With the Bristol they’re a dream.

I prefer to use them on bristol paper as well. Kristina Werner has several videos using these. I actually like to put down a little water, then put down color, then blend with more water.
If you’re used to using watercolors, you will def have to get used to these. They are much drier than watercolors but have water solvent properties. I see them as super controlled watercolors.

I just mean that water breaks down the marker ink, which lets you blend the color out and make it more sheer, giving it a watercolor-like effect.

I made this card using the Zig pens and a waterbrush. I am not the best colorer but I think it turned out pretty good. I used Bristol smooth paper. I made a matching tag but forgot to take a photo. {deleted photo}

I really like mine although I find that many of them feel drier than others. I have also noticed that some colors are much harder to blend especially the reds and blues. I use Bristol Smooth cardstock and watercolor paper with no problem. I recently purchased the Zig detailer waterbrush and it blends so much better than my Pentel waterbrush, the bristles of the Zig are nicer and compacted so you don't find yourself coloring outside the lines. Before having these markers I used to color with my watercolor pencils so it took me a while to get used to the Zigs

Does Michael’s sell Bristol smooth paper? I found it on Amazon but I thought it might be cheaper at Michael’s with a coupon.

I would say that sometimes it is cheaper to get it from Amazon than Michaels but that depends on the coupon they have active and if the price doesn't go up on Amazon, I usually check Amazon first and then Michaels app for their coupons. But if I'm in a rush then I just head to Michaels

I find them on the dry side. In fact, a few of mine have dried out already, and I haven't had them for that long. I'm glad I didn't invest too much money in them. There was a thread on Splitcoaststampers about these markers being dry - it seemed like a problem with buying them off of Amazon. www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/tool-product-talk-f128/disappointed-zig-clean-color-watercolor-markers-t608272.htmlI bought my markers off of Amazon and they'be been fine. I don't remember what paper I've used with them, though (it might be Fabriano from PTI) - but I haven't had any problems yet.

marg, I remember reading about that on Splitcoast too. I bought some on Amazon and some at shows. I can't remember where I bought the ones that dried out.

I'm going to try mine on strathmore and see if I like them more on that. But so far I'm not impressed. I used another brand of Bristol smooth. Beinfeing or something like that. Good name. I have that brand of watercolour brush type pens too. My zigs did not wash out good on that brand. I bought a 12 set at christmas from my art store when they were on sale to try them out. Right now I won't be adding to the collection.
