I have been wanting to redo my craft room for weeks... months... a very long time... but as much as I want a fresh space, I don't want to do it. Well, tonight I just spent the past hour and a half packing everything up and moving it all out... all that remains is the table, a few things in the closet, one shelf on the wall, and my computer... tomorrow it will be empty and in just a few days it will be fresh and clean and ready to start from scratch! I've got a new adjustable table I'm dying to set up, and a whole lot of ideas spinning in my head... I'll share a photo tomorrow, but if anyone has any tips about organization or starting over, please do share!

That is awesome! My only tip would be to make sure nothing goes back in the room that you don’t love. I imagine you are anxious to get it all back in, but take your time and enjoy!

That is awesome! My only tip would be to make sure nothing goes back in the room that you don’t love. I imagine you are anxious to get it all back in, but take your time and enjoy! Exactly! I made that mistake the last time. I started drilling holes in the walls and hanging things in places that turned out not to be ideal. Funny how big the room looks when there is nothing in it! Back to work I go!

Fun!
My tips -> Go through everything and only bring back what you like or will use. And by everything I mean each piece of paper, sticker sheet, doo-dads.
Check ink in ink pads and pens, if they're dry throw them out.
I always put my "get rid of items" in a box or bin and store them for a period of time (3 months, 6 months, whatever) then get rid of them later. In the spur of the moment I got rid of a few things I wish I had back.

Exciting times! I am amazed that you cleared it all out in one evening! Took me a lot longer than that, and I didn't go through anything until I was putting it back.
Good advice up thread. Put back what you love and what you think you will use. And ditch pens, inkpads and tools that don't work the way they were intended. Store the rest for a few months in case you forgot to include it.
Organize by how you use your tools and supplies. If you scrap by theme--like I do--don't waste a lot of time sorting your papers by colour: sort them by theme. If you use kits or collections together, store them together. But if you go looking for "a stamp" or a "wood veneer item", then store non paper elements by type. If you like to see your supplies &/or have them at arm's reach, invest in some counter top display pieces.
Looking forward to photos of your new art studio!

grammadee I’m surprised I got it all packed up as quickly as I did too. Most of my stuff is pretty organized... I’m probably slightly OCD when it comes to organization so it was really just a matter of taking things off the walls and getting the room cleared out. Now the rest of the basement looks like a hurricane hit it but my studio is empty, the 8,000 holes are filled and sanded, the walls washed, the carpet vacuumed and tomorrow I’ll tape and paint! Last night and today were the tough days. Preparing the room is always the worst part. Once the first coat of paint goes on, it’ll start to look better and then I’ll know all the work has been worth the effort! Hopefully on Monday I can get my new table assembled and start putting a few things back, but I’m going to do it super slowly so I don’t make the same mistakes I made the last time. I never even thought to test out ink pads, pens and markers! Great idea! Why put something back that’s meant for the trash. I’m still debating whether or not to take the doors off my closet. For now I’m leaving them on but I’m thinking about putting drawers and shelves in there for even better organization and when that time comes, I’m pretty sure the doors will come off. Just have to figure out what will work and I don’t want to toss the doors now and then think I should have kept them. I did have magnetic sheets glued on the inside where I have been storing almost all of my wafer thin dies, but I removed them and think I’m going to try Jennifer McGuire’s method of storing dies. Lots to think about for sure! I’ll post some pictures tomorrow after it’s painted... and still empty. Maybe seeing the space will give you guys ideas I’m not seeing.

how exciting!! it's always fun to get everything 'fresh' and 'new'... plus, you could find stuff you didn't know you had, and it will be sort of like Christmas! I’m pretty sure the doors will come off. Just have to figure out what will work and I don’t want to toss the doors now and then think I should have kept them. When we moved in to our house, we got new doors... the closets are the kind that have two doors sliding on tracks, IYKWIM. So only half the closet could be 'open' at a time. I knew I wanted it to be as open as possible, so the doors didn't even go on. We put them in the garage, at the front, so if/when we sell the house, we can re-hang them.

Two coats of paint on the wall and I am very happy with the result! Coconut ice is the colour - says its a "warm white", but it looks darker than white. It used to be blue gray so this is a big change and DD tells me that if it's taupe I'm happy. I think this is close enough so it makes me happy. I'm hugely disappointed with the desk. I bought the wrong base. I thought I bought the base that had a manual crank letting you change the height but it turns out that although it does adjust, it's not as easy as I want it to be. My fault for buying the wrong one, but now I've got to wait until next weekend to exchange it! Bummer! Tomorrow I'm going to box up this desk base and bring in the tables that I've been using for years. As you can see I've left the doors on the closet for now. I'm going to see what Ikea offers for custom closets - drawers and shelves that will hold my supplies - but I don't think that's going to be something that happens within the next couple of weeks, more like months, so I kept the doors for now. I need to hide the mess. So happy to have it fresh and ready to start bringing my stuff back in. But like I said, I'm going to do it slowly and I've hid the drill so nothing gets put on the walls until it has been WELL though out. I do think I'm getting a Kallax unit though... wanted one for a long time ... I think its time...

Perfect color for scrapbooking! I used to hang my pages up on a wire to see my latest pages. It helps to have a neutral that won't clash with the pages.

Doors on the closet make for a lot of storage. I have a set of shoe holders on each door and 12 Lucky 8 punches hanging on Command pegs. Those suckers are hard to store.

I spent the entire day trying to get the furniture back in the room, moving and removing and moving and removing.... I can't believe it but at the end of the day, everything is pretty much back to where it was before. The odd change, but apparently this is what works for me. I discovered that I'm dreaming in technicolour if I think that I won't be putting stuff back up on the walls! Half of my stash is organized that way, but this time I want to think about where the stuff is going before I put it back up. And the closet it still empty. I need shelves and drawers! Your rooms looks wonderful! I love the color!

I like the touches of pink.
Even if the furniture is back where it was, you've cleaned and painted. You are putting thought into everything, so it's a new and fresh room.

That color is lovely. Just enough contrast with the white, but still very bright and neutral. It looks like a great space.

Loved reading this. Makes me want to re-paint my space. The color I have is what was in the house when we moved here. It is along the lines of a Winter Wheat. I really love the color you chose.

Your room is really coming along nicely! What will you put on the walls? I used to have pegboard which was incredibly handy, but in my new room I opted not to use it because I wanted a more uncluttered look with less vertical space usage - calmer for me. But I miss how useful the pegboard was for hanging tools, etc.
I really like how many useful surfaces you have - you can have multiple stations around your room.

Sound exciting. I’m finished with my room. I purged a lot of stuff and did check my ink and markers as well. The only causality was loosing all my stickles perfect pearls and Nuvo drops. Its quite maddening. I have to replace a lot of those now.

But I miss how useful the pegboard was for hanging tools, etc. I really like how many useful surfaces you have - you can have multiple stations around your room. Thank you everyone for the lovely comments. I have to say that I am absolutely exhausted from this endeavor! Three days off for a long weekend and I spent close to every second in that room. I'm back at work now for a much needed "rest"! LOL I do love the colour, but I've never been a risk taker when it comes to painting. The room is in the basement so I had to be a little more careful with the paint colour, and it covered up a darker blue/gray so to me, this is perfect. marg, this entire project all began because I wanted a clean uncluttered look, but now every time I walk in there, it feels too empty. And the boxes of unpacked stuff in the family room is proof that there is more than enough stuff to fill the room, and the walls! I used to have two magnetic boards above one of the tables that hold about 25 or so tins of small embellishments as well as some colour swatches and notes. I'm pretty sure that at least one of those boards will be put back up, but the clutter of the swatches and notes will find a spot in a drawer. I also had a dry erase board and a cork board, but I think those are going in the trash. Something that is definitely going back up are a couple of Grundtal kitchen rails and containers from Ikea. I use them to store my Copic markers and most used pens/pencils. I like this method because the containers don't sit on my table and take up space so I'm pretty sure they will make it back up. I also have a pretty large unit I picked up from Michaels way back when that holds ribbon and ink and paint... I'm still contemplating if that will make it back in or not. It sure holds a lot of stuff that I use, and I like that I can easily reach for it, but it is BIG and for that reason I'm going to have to give a lot more thought to whether or not I want that spot on the wall left alone. Something that is definitely changing is my system for storing acrylic stamps. I used to have Ikea towel rods hung from the ceiling (where the bunny is) and I used clip it up type clips to hang them. I did love that system for a long time, but as my stamp collection has grown, it's far too cluttered and I decided to go to the fridge bin system that Jennifer McGuire uses. The only problem with this is finding a spot to store the fridge bins, which I'm hoping will be in the closet... which I'm hoping will have a great new built in closet organizer... The table space is an absolute must for me. I find that I spread out and often have my Cameo cutting something as I'm running a wafer thin die through my Vagabond, or sending something to one of my printers. I really did want to have an adjustable height table in there, and I still may, but I'm also contemplating just raising the surface of two of the tables up a notch so I can stand. One of the tables is sitting on a Kallax unit so it is slightly higher. It used to be secured to the wall for stability, but I'm going to pick up another small Kallax unit this weekend to rest it on and avoid at least a couple of new holes in the wall, as well as give me four more cubes to store less used stuff in! Anyway, it is coming along, and I am happy that I did it, but WOW... it's a lot more work than I was anticipating when I started!

I also love all the horizontal work surfaces you have!! I think it's a good thing to think long and hard about how you use your supplies and how you work before you bring everything back in... it's something I still haven't been totally successful at.
I need to 'see' my stuff in order to use it- and I travel to crops a few times a year- so I have a lot of 12x12 Iris containers on a wall of shelves. I have an ancient desk from the Container store and our first small kitchen table from Ikea as my work spaces, with a desk hutch I found at Goodwill for a bit of vertical storage... I originally wanted the table for keeping out my Silhouette (so I would actually USE it), but that table is always covered with all sorts of random less-used crap that really needs a better home. Plus, I recently got a Big Shot from Tuesday Morning, so I'd also like to find a spot for that in order to USE it, too.
