Hoping some experienced die cutters can help me outl. I've searched up the old threads and googled reviews of both machines. I have the BSP and I'm just not convinced I love it. Before I invest in my plates etc I wanted to consider the alternatives. So, can you share what you like/dislike about any manual machines you have? Thank you!

I saw this earlier and wasn't going to post because I don't have either machine you mentioned. However, since no one has responded I'll give you my opinion. I have an old green Cuttlebug. I'm waiting for it to break so I can get the Spellbinders Platinum machine. I've used both a Big Shot and a Spellbinders and they're basically the same. The reason why I want the Spellbinders is because the sides fold up so the footprint is smaller. The Big Shot just seems too giant for my workspace. I keep my CB in a cabinet until I need it so fold up sides is best for me. A while ago I read that BS was coming out with a fold up machine, but I haven't seen one in person to see the actual footprint. If the footprint is smaller than the Platinum I may change my thinking. But for now I have to stick to my Cuttlebug because I just can't justify spending that much money for a new machine just because it's prettier.

I also heard a while back that Sizzix was coming out with a Big Shot with folding sides but I have yet to see one available. I have the regular sized Big Shot and love it. I don’t need the bigger Plus machine since I don’t have any giant dies and don’t want to sacrifice the space. Sorry, I don’t have any experience with the Spellbinders machines.

Do you have the magnetic plate for the bsp. Also the plus does better cutting up Vs cutting down. I love mine a lot. I did see Vicki P using the fold up bs in a video I haven't saw it for sale any where though

I don't have either of those machines. What is it you don't like about the BSP, kiwikate? I kept my green Cuttlebug when I got my Sizzix Vagabond. The CB is more portable and lighter to carry to crops. I like that the vagabond is electronic, it folds up, and it has a magnetic platform. Sizzix has been awesome with customer service. The only reason I can think of for getting a machine with a bigger platform would be to cut windows in larger cards or to cut peek a boo holes in top layers of a scrapbook page.

Thanks for your replies! I'm not sure what it is I don't like; I know that sounds a bit weird! It is big and bulky but not at all heavy, so I guess feels insubstantial? My only other experience is with the Cuttlebug. which I love for it's portability. Maybe if I get the magnets plate I will feel happier with the cutting.

I don't have either machine, but the BSP was on my wish list because of it's increased pressure, not it's platform size. According to Sizzix, you don't use a precision base plate for intricate dies, because it has enough pressure on it's own vs. the regular BS. I actually got one of the $45 Gemini machines at HL, so that's what I use now.

I have the vagabond... I like the ease of pressing a button and I don't need portability.

The Big Shot with the fold up sides was released from Ellison/Sizzix Europe.
I have and use the Spellbinders Platinum machine. It has great pressure, better in my opinion than a standard Big Shot. I have not used a Big Shot Plus yet.
