Than them? Not a romantic one, just your typical, plutonic friendship...

Do you ever feel weird when they ask for advice? I have a friend 20 years older than me and she recently shared something with me very private and wanted advice. I had no problems offering advice and she definitely followed through with my advice, but I just felt so odd telling someone old enough to be my mom how I would handle the situation...😳

Yes, a couple women 20-30 years older than me. I really enjoy their perspective.

One of my closet friends is ten years younger. One is 6 years older.
I give advice when asked to the best of my ability and if I can't, I just tell them I haven't experienced that paricular issue but I will support them along the way.

I have a close friend who is twenty years older than me. We've been friends for close to twenty years (we met at work).

Almost all of my friends (and DH’s) are 10-20 years older than we are. I have no friends that are significantly younger than I am even though most of my kid’s friend’s parents would fall into that age group.

I have a friend who is 23 years younger than me. She was born 6 months after I graduated from college and is far closer to my daughter’s age than mine. She’s wise beyond her years and I’ve learned a lot from her and asked her advice more than once. She jokes that I’m her “old” friend and told he about her Nana who had an old friend (20 year age gap) as well.

I'm that friend who is older, by about 15 years. Doesn't seem to matter, we have lots of laughs and fun together.
I don't like to give advice but I'm always happy to listen to her and give her a different perspective.

I'm glad you asked this! I've made quite a few new friends through our mutual interest in books and I've been a little restrained because I'm a good 10+ years older than all of them.

When I was younger, I had friends who were older than me. Now that I'm *ahem* less young, I have more friends who are younger than me. It's funny, because for so many years I was the token young person in many of my jobs - it took some adjustment to feel like part of the "old guard."
Once you're a full-fledged adult, age differences matter less than "life differences," if that makes sense. At two of my jobs, I have bosses who are 15 years younger than me. They hired me because I'm good at what I do, but I would certainly be comfortable asking them for advice about work stuff. OTOH, my kids are a lot older than theirs, so they sometimes ask me for advice on parenting stuff.

I have a few in their mid 70s. We go for lunch and stuff. I have one older friend in Japan who is American and nearly 80. She is great and helped me immensely. I would say I have a fair number of older friends I hang out with. Love them all.

Most of my friends are my age, one is 10 years older, and one is about 15 years older. There's no real difference except with the younger one - she's extremely immature for her age though and at times I feel like we have a high-schooler tagging along. Needless to say, she's not my fave.

My BFF is 20 years younger than I am. We are in the same profession, so we have a similar perspective on life, even though we have many differences. My BF is also 20 years younger than I am (which is a whole different post, just adding perspective )
On the guy side, both my sons have BFF's that are older than I am...so 25+ years older than they are. They have common hobbies w/ them, and met them through those hobbies.

I have both. I have a friend who is 18 years younger than me. She is smack dab in the middle of me and my kids, age-wise, and is friends with both me and my teens. I mentor her and she’s available to mentor my dd. We joke that she’s going to take care of me in my old age and my kids will take care of her in hers. She’s got kids that are a few years younger, plus a baby. Our kids are friends. So this can continue even further. LOL
Ours is very much a give and take relationship. She’s one of my best friends and we know we will always be there for each other. We are good at processing stuff together, listening and helping each other come up with our own answers.
I have another friend who is older, we don’t get to talk or see each other much but when we do, we can talk for hours. there is a lot of love and admiration on both sides.
We know there is an age difference but it doesn’t interfere with our relationships.

It’s a strange transition from having friends our own age to having friends of all ages. As I’ve gotten older - age means less when it comes too friendship.
I was recently at a dinner party - one other guest was my age, 2 were 10 years younger and 6 were young enough to be my kids. Didn’t think anything about it at the time but i did when I was telling one of my kids about it.

Most of my friends here are much younger than me, but a lot of that is due to the path my life has taken in the past 10 years. We made an International move, and I made friends through a knitting group and through a Family Center where I volunteer and it just happens that most of the women I've met through those places are in their 30s - I am mid-50s. I feel that it keeps me young, spending so much time with them and with their children, and many of the young mums who come to the family center are a long way from home and their mums as well, so they appreciate my experience and help with children.

Since we had DS when we were in our late 30's, most of my friends are 10-15 years younger. They keep me young!

One of my tennis buddies is 72. She could be my mom - but she's my buddy! I love her. And then, because I have a 15 year old, I have a lot of friends who are 10-15 years younger than I am.
