I keep hearing proponents of arming teachers say we protect our money better than our children with armed guards at banks. I've only seen armed guards in banks in the movies or on TV, never in real life.
Does your bank have armed guards?

I think just Brinks has armed guards when they come to pick up money from the bank. I won't deal with a bank that has armed guards in my country.

No, I believe that a study showed that armed guards were actually causing more deaths so banks decided not to use them. I read this in the last few days, but I don't remember where.

No and once I got up to the teller and this sketchy drifter was standing next to me asking for money. I didn't speak to the teller so I looked odd standing there, but I was waiting for her to do something, hit a panic button or whatever. I sure as hell wasn't going to write her a note and pass it under the glass alerting her to what was going on. lol It took her forever to realize why I was awkwardly standing there because I was not going to do a money transaction with that guy next to me. She finally told a male teller to come out and assist the man.

I haven't been inside a bank in at least 15 years, so I don't have any idea.
I only use the drive thru and online.

The credit union where our joint account is has one armed security guard who stands outside. The national chain where my solo account does not have any security guards at the two locations I frequent.

Mine does not, but there are two armed guards, outside the front and back doors, of our local Bank of America branch. They stand there all day long.

There is a guard outside both banks I use, standing near the ATM during lobby hours. But I have never noticed if they are armed. If so, it is with a handgun as I'm sure I would have noticed a rifle.

My credit union does not and has open desks for tellers BUT my old credit union and all major banks in my town and surrounding cities have armed guards and bullet proof glass teller inclosers. Been that way since 90's.

I worked for a major national bank for many years. As a general rule, most suburban or rural branches do not have armed guards. Some do, if the location is higher crime in general. In larger cities, armed guards are more common. And usually there will be armed security onsite for a few days after any robbery (which really is more for staff peace of mind than anything else - it's unlikely a bank will be robbed twice in a few days). There may also be security onsite if there has been a rash of robberies in the vicinity recently.

it has been awhile since I've been inside a bank, but the last one I went into i remember a guy in a suit standing by the door. I don't know if he was armed or not.

Also there are many worship areas in LA that have armed guards (Jewish) Makes me sick they have to have armed guards. Makes me sick any area has to have armed guards.

My personal banking isn't done locally, but I have accounts at some local banks for organizations where I occasionally need to do transactions. All the ones around my office have armed guards (affluent neighborhood, for the record). I used to work at a bank 5 miles away that did not have armed security.

We have security at the front door of our bank, but I don't think he is armed. It has been robbed twice or three times since we moved here however. It's in a pretty deserted strip mall and is right beside the highway on-ramp, easy get away I guess. Maybe he should be armed?

My personal bank does not. My best running friend is the CFO of a local bank chain and the branch her office is at does have an UNarmed guard.

Banks want robbers to get in and out as soon as possible. The security is only there to protect personal safety, not to try and stop an in progress robbery.

There is only one way out at my credit union and that has a double door entrance.
I am sure that those doors lock and the glass is bullet proof.

The one we use now doesn't. But back in the 90s my husband worked as an armed guard for Pinkerton. He was posted at a bank, then a gated community with a very high profile resident, and finally a high rise building that housed an international oil company.
He enjoyed the job , but was happy to move on to something else after the oil company changed contractors. It's a high stress occupation.

My branch does not and it's inside a grocery store... no windows or nothing... very open. I am sure they don't keep tons of money up front. I would suspect branches or main branches that are located in downtown areas with tons of transactions would have them or higher crime areas.. I have never seen any guards at any of the banks I have been into in my town or anywhere I have banked in the last 30 years (that I can remember).
I keep thinking of the bank guard in the movie Sweet Home Alabama.. lol..

We have a Bank of America in the center of town that has been robbed twice. I saw armed guards outside it for several weeks after it happened but not recently.

I used to work at a bank and we did not have a guard. Our branch had been robbed before I worked there and my coworker was assaulted by the robber. I can't say how that situation would have been different had there been an armed guard, but I will admit that my opinion is that it would have turned out worse, with someone dead or much more injured than my coworker had been.

I don't go into my branch bank very often, so I don't know if they have an armed guard or not. Just about all the larger churches around here have an armed guard. They are usually off duty police officers.

The local credit union has greeters at most branches. (Not armed...not in any way security-guard like.) They haven't been robbed at any of the branches with greeters. They figure it's because it's hard to scope out for a robbery when someone cheerful is chatting you up the moment you walk in the door.

I know there is a few here that do. Our credit union had one stand out in the lobby he is to the side so you don't see him when you first walk in.

No bank has armed guards in New Zealand. Our ordinary police don’t even routinely carry guns. They have pepper spray and batons.
