Maine GOP (and many others) slam Parkland students

Sadly, he’s not just a celebrity. He’s on the board of the NRA. And as they never distance themselves from his rhetoric, it appears that he speaks for them.

Wether you agree or disagree with these kids ( and I both agree with them on some things and disagree on others ) I can’t see why adults seem to relish calling them names so much. I just don’t get it. They are kids, they are passionate - let them try.

And as for David Hoag lamenting his college woes on social media, I’d say about 90% of college bound seniors comment on social media about acceptances, wait lists and denials. It’s just that time of year. Though I think many wait until the acceptance letter they want and then post, I’ve seen plenty of seniors lamenting that they did not get in somewhere. It’s just what kids do. I’m not sure why adults who don’t even know him had to acknowledge it at all. It’s just what seniors do in the spring geez

I don't know one person who would say something like this, much less tweet it. Or at least I surely hope I don't. What is wrong with people? 

Remember this quote from Ghandi?   "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win".  To me it seems like this is what's happening here.

It's amazing to me that this incredibly articulate, intelligent, wise beyond their years group of students have been able to do all they have since the shooting at their school on February 14 of this year. They gave speeches very soon after the day of the shooting and kept to the airwaves letting everyone know that this time was going to be different. They organized the March For Our Lives march in DC, and other cities across the country. The march in DC was estimated to bring out marchers totaling 800,000 people. 

Maybe what we are seeing now with these types of verbal assaults is that some politicians in office are starting to get a little worried that this movement might produce some results. That's my theory. By lashing out at Emma and the other Parkland student that Maine GOP got his anger off his chest ( looked to me like he was so worried any action brought forward would mean the 2nd amendment would crumble and his guns would be taken away) but he also ended up having to leave office. Ha! Ha! Hope the door didn't slam him in the butt on the way out. People like that don't deserve to be in office. 

Anyway, that's the only analogy I can come up with. Otherwise it's ludicrous to me as why grown men (or women) would get so angry and call teens names. The teens are acting like adults and the adults are acting like two year olds. 

I agree - but I think it's true of adults on both sides.  Both those who are demonizing the teens on the right and those on the left who have turned to them as saviors and heroes.

I see these kids as a teacher does - I applaud their passion and budding eloquence, while sometimes cringing at their choice of words.  But they're kids.  I think we adults would do best to engage them as supportive teachers.  Let them express their grief and rage, applaud their passion, and edit and guide them as necessary, as a good teacher does.

I think as long as kids are the ones being killed at school, kids have the right to express themselves on that subject without being held to adult-level expectations with regards to word choice and understanding of policy.  It's up to us, the adults, to parse their words into appropriate action rather than demeaning them for speaking and behaving like the teenagers they are.

There are equally passionate and eloquent teens in every high school in America.  And they're getting two messages right now: one, from the left, that when they speak passionately, they are incapable of doing or saying anything wrong; and another, from the right, that because they are teens, they can't possibly have informed or accurate opinions about the world they live in and so should just shut up and disengage.  Both messages are dangerous for them to absorb.  

Teachers and most parents of teens understand that this generation of teens is not going to sit quietly by and just respectfully listen to what the adults have to say.  Through social media, these kids are used to engaging with everyone on every level. In school - if they are lucky - they are encouraged to grapple with big ideas from a very young age. It doesn't mean they're always right, or always wrong.  But they do need adults to listen, engage with them and guide rather than canonizing them or tearing them down.

I echo whoever post earlier that I am also concerned for David's safety. Also for his well being, he has not taken time grieve yet. many haven't.

The picking on, bullying, threatening and making up falsehoods to and about these students gets me agitated and angered in a whole new way. 

I.just.don't.get.it.   seems damn near evil to me.  just to support 'your side' attack kids who already were attacked. with a gun. at school. seems logical/normal.  /SARCASM

hard  for me to look at people the same after they buy into and spread that hate.

I haven't watched Roseann because right now I don't think I could separate her "awful" from her character right now.  Ted Nugent and others were already on my WTH list but now have sunk to a new low.

thankfully no one that I know of  in my real life has demeaned them.  I don't know how I'd handle it.

Some people are truly disgusting. It's not a surprise. It only surprises me how openly they show off that fact in public.
