FYI: www.proboards.com/press-releases/proboards-partners-with-viglinkwhen I clicked the link on my ipad, the address bar first said viglink then changed to shareasale (and I couldn't see the end of the url to see if there was an affiliate id) and then changed again to scrapbook.com. So viglink is definitely doing something here. Maybe not for everyone who clicks on the link but for at least some. I just wanted to make the point that mel hadn’t done anything wrong. I guess if proboards wants to piggyback on the back of people’s (potential) affiliate links, nothing we can do about that, but they won’t be making much money out of the peas as people rarely post affiliate links here. If it works by creating an affiliate link on peoples links, nothing we can do about that either. But people who’ve done nothing wrong shouldn’t be made to feel bad.I know. that's why I apologized. Well before you made your posts. Sheesh.

I would like to go on record saying that if I ever seem to have posted an affiliate link, I did not and it got changed somehow. This is all very educational even though I am still confused.

I am not an expert but there is definitely a lot of stigma and confusion around affiliate links - which is no surprise really as it seems to be this under wraps thing that bloggers and ‘influencers’ use but don’t talk about much.

Ohhhh!! That reminds me of a FB group I was on. They guy who "ran" it posted all the time about this product or that one off of Amazon. Well, there were TONS of people on this group and I'm sure about 2/3 of them/us had NO idea he was getting paid for everyone who followed his links, AND if you ordered the products, he also got paid. He was very sneaky and underhanded about it. If you get paid, ok, but you don't have to be underhanded about it.

I don't know how other affiliate links work, but I am an Amazon Affiliate. If someone clicks on one of my affiliate links, I get paid only if he/she purchases something on Amazon. If the purchase is the item I linked to, I believe it's a higher payment. I always indicate when I'm using an affiliate link; however, it doesn't bother me if members on a board I belong to don't always do that. I like to support fellow members. I can see how it would bother others, though, because we all have our views on this topic.
What really ticks me off (and it's illegal too) is when YouTubers and bloggers use products that companies have sent them for free, but they don't have a disclaimer or mention the free product anywhere. I want to know, because that often will influence a person's opinion about a product. It's human nature.
