Born a Crime by Trevor Noah was excellent, as was Troublemaker by Leah Rimini.

Small Great Things was good on audio. Audra McDonald read for one of the characters.
For people who like Jim Dale, he also read The Night Circus. I didn't much care for that book though.
I generally like the readers of Liane Moriarty's books, too.

I've listened to some good ones this year! Only Child by Rhiannon Navin. This book is written from the POV of a young boy and it's narrated by a young boy as well. The story is so good but the narration really puts it over the edge! The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. Young family moves to Alaska to live off the land and the story follows them through 20 years of their lives. It's fantastic! But truly, anything by Kristin Hannah is great! Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. Another great performance by a narrator! I loved the quirkiness of this character and the accented narration really sealed the book for me. I think I'll be listening to this annually going forward. I loved it! Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult. Striking book with a tough subject matter but written and performed extremely well! I hope that gives you some good suggestions! There is a podcast put on by the Editors of Audible where they give their suggestions on audiobooks that they like. I've found a lot of good suggestions in this podcast. It's called "Audicted" and you can listen through the Audible app or online!

My favorite series ever is the Dark Tower series read by Frank Muller, but the ones that are out now have a new narrator. I'm not sure if they are as good.
A Man Called Ove was excellent.
I go back to the Harry Potter series when I don't have something else going.
Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling pseudonym) was good.

If you want bang for your buck - The Stand by Stephen King. It is incredibly long, but so well done. Cormac McCarthy's The Road was exceptional. I loved Educated by Tara Westover which is a memoir, but not political. That kept me riveted. The Mountain Between Us was well done. Born a Crime by Trevor Noah was exceptional. The Marriage of Opposites by Alice Hoffman and Angela's Ashes were also good.

Also, American Gods by Neil Gaiman, and Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult.
