I have a 2010 Highlander and I'm not impressed with the Nav screen in it. I don't use the map feature on it, never have. My phone is better for that. We have a 3rd row and it is small but kids have sat there for around town driving and it's been fine. I really like the 2nd row because the seats move forward and back so it can create a lot of leg room if needed.
You might want to look at a Ford Explorer or Expedition if you want a larger car. DH has an Expedition and I'm sure that the technology would be the same in an Explorer and it's very nice. Your phone connects to it so you can totally operate you phone from the touch screen (not while driving of course, that's for the passenger) with all the apps and everything on it. I've found Ford to be the most user friendly, intuitive card brand around. We have a 2002 Explorer still going strong and DHs 2005 Expedition lasted until there were 290,000 miles on it. Both have been/were great cars.

Just because no one has mentioned it, we used to have a GMC Acadia and I LOVED it!! Third row seating was pretty roomy and we had bucket seats in the middle which made getting in and out of the last row easier.
We upgraded to a truck a few years ago (to tow a travel trailer) and I still miss that car. It had heated and A/C seats, an awesome heads up display, sunroof and lots of other bells & whistles. It also drove amazing in bad weather since it was AWD. It was a nice middle of the road car without going to a huge SUV or a minivan. At the time we were looking, we actually found the Acadia to have more leg room in the 3rd row than most of the larger SUV's and more storage space when the 3rd row was up or down.

I have a 2016 Pilot and love it. The third row is fine for tall adults on short trips, out to dinner, etc. It would be tight fit for a road trip with 7 adults.
If you need a third row on a regular basis for big people, a minivan would probably be better. Also the Pilot has less cargo space than my Kia Sedona minivan.

We hired a GMC Yukon in Canada and couldn’t believe how small the back row was. Even my 10 yr old was squashed. We had a Zafira here which is tiny compared to the Yukon but the back row felt similar.

If you live in/near a large city with a convention center see if there is an auto show coming. We find it really helpful to have all sorts of cars in one huge room. Made it easier to compare, narrow down and no sales pressure like a dealership.

I have driven a three row Pilot and loved it. I now drive a two row Hyundai Santa Fe. It does come in three rows but I no longer need that. You should take a look. I never planned to buy a Hyundai and then we randomly stopped there on the way to buy a new Pilot. I love it. The best car I ever had and tons of tech options. I bought the Tech Package Turbo, but I'm sure they have awesome tech packages in the third row.

I love my GMC Acadia Denali. My teenage and adult kids ride in the 3rd row and have never complained about it.

I have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe with a 3rd row and love it. Definitely worth takibg a look at. My teenage daughters are usually the ones in the 3rd row and the are comfortable. Even with the 3rd row up, there is still some storage space in the back, not much, but enough for a few groceries or an overnight bag or two. The back seat is actually extremely comfortable to ride in. It rides nice and handles well.

I drove the Acura MDX and Toyota Highlander today. I could barely see over the wheel of the MDX (I'm short) so it's a no. The Highlander was amazing. Super comfortable to drive. The options were so nice. I wasn't ready to make a decision today but started the negotiation process. They wrote out a deal and I brought it home to look at it tonight. Decided to show my husband the car online and noticed the online price is $3500 less than the price they wanted me to pay on my deal. Is that normal? I sent a screenshot to the salesman and he said he would get back to me tomorrow but gave me some line about banks not liking discounts but they write the discount into the buyback price of the trade in. Felt like a total line especially since it wasn't communicated to me at all. Is this normal practice? No wonder they were pressuring me to buy today!

I rented a Dodge Journey. It was AMAZING! Turned on a dime. LOTS of room inside. 7 seater with 4 buckets. Great access to the back seat, and it comfortably sat 3 people. Automatic sliding doors on both sides. Back seat folded up and down really easily, and the cargo space with the back seat down was awesome; with the seat up it was still good: stuffed in a couple of hockey bags and some sticks.

I have a Dodge Durango and love the cargo space, and the optional third row is really roomy when we need it. Plenty of room for full size adults. Wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee but there wasn’t enough cargo room. Turns out the Durango is essentially an extend grand Cherokee and it has been perfect for us.
