I'm glad you were able to book elsewhere. I have never heard of having to make a deposit for a hair appointment. Is that common in other areas? idk, they have online booking, so maybe that is why. Or maybe aveda places do That? I like online booking because I really hate calling people. I'll do it of I have to, but being able to see exactly what is available and with whom is so much more convenient The salon I go to uses online scheduling (at my suggestion, I might add) and they don’t have a booking fee.

I’m like you and only get my hair cut a few times a year. Last time I got my hair cut, it was at Ulta and it was great. I would definitely go back and probably will schedule my next cut there. Granted, I have the straightest stick straight hair the world has ever seen so it’s pretty easy to cut, but Ulta did a great job for a reasonable price. I hope it all works out for you. I’d be pretty upset if I dropped a deposit and the salon cancelled last minute.

I was feeling crummy for you, until I hit the comment about a deposit, then I started climbing the pea livid ladder. You made the deposit because clearly the salon has problems with people canceling. At the point they require a deposit to fix this problem, they don't get to cancel a client. Period. They need to do what it takes to fix this. Took the words right out of my mouth. They take a deposit, then cancel on you?! Completely unacceptable.

Wow. I work part time at a friend's spa booking appointments and our rule of thumb is you do everything possible to get people in the door. If someone wants to come at a time we don't have any room, we see if other therapists can come in; we try to see if therapists can come in early or stay late. And most are more than happy to do it. I'm sorry they treated you that badly; but I'm glad you got another appointment!

I hope your Ulta appointment went well. Call the first salon back and get your deposit refunded. If the receptionist refuses, ask for the supervisor or owner of the salon. Go into the salon if needed.

I had a highlight and cut scheduled for tomorrow. I don't do a lot with my hair and this was a treat, partially for mothers day and partially so that i looked okay for my senior graduation duties next weekend. I have to pay a $45 deposit to book. They called this morning to cancel because the stylist won't be in. Of course there is not more availability this week for times I could go before graduation. I was REALLY looking forward to this. I've been feeling down about my looks as my weight isn't dropping ax much as I wish and i just looks like crap. All I wanted was pretty hair for a little while.

They charge you $45 so you don't cancel on them and waste their time but when they cancel on you you get nothing, no accommodation? Doesn't matter if they gave you back your booking fee, that was theirs to keep if you canceled not them. I would have had it timed right down to a few days before something also so then I'd be scrambling to get in somewhere else.

Come back and update! I hope Ulta didn't suck!
I've been to the one by me with decent results.

I hope you're happy with your new haircut & color. The first place gave you the deposit back, right? If I remember right, you're in CO, but I don't remember what area. I can recommend a great hairdresser for the future if Arvada is close to you. It takes me about 40 minutes to get there, but she's worth it. I just got a cut/and colored highlights last Wednesday. I totally understand wanting to do some things to make yourself feel better about how you look. I've lost weight over the last year and have been trying to buy "cuter" clothes and I've really gotten interested in skin care and makeup. I love Ulta & Sephora. If you want to learn a lot about makeup & skin care products, check out the beauty thread. It's ongoing, and has a lot of great info. There are some great youtube channels too.

Come back and update! I hope Ulta didn't suck! I've been to the one by me with decent results. so, I enjoyed going she kept complimenting herself and my hair as she was working, which was weird, but fine. I love the highlights. She did cit it about 2 inches shorted than I was wanting, so it is slightly above my shoulders and just barely abled to be pulled back into a ponytail. I probably won't go this short again. After she took me to some makeup counter and did a little makeup on me. I did like her and prices aren't bad. I'm not sure how I like being in a store rather than a salon and I am sure I will always buy something as I leave. It was the first time I'd ever been in an ULTA or store like that. It was interesting and potentially debt inducing.

I'm so glad it was mostly a positive experience! Two inches shorter is more than I would be happy with for sure!

I'm glad it turned out to be a positive experience. You know we'd like a photo of the results, right?

I'm glad it turned out to be a positive experience. You know we'd like a photo of the results, right? Yes! and if you're shy, even the back of your hair will be good. I'm LOLing about her complimenting herself. I've had those times where I feel like crap about how I look. Why wait til fall to do the GYPO? There is also Allison Snyder of Adore your Wardrobe. She does little mini videos almost every day. Sometimes, just getting the basics of putting outfits together well can make all the difference in how we feel. SaveSave

I'm glad it was a mostly positive experience.
And, I agree, Ulta is dangerous to my wallet.
