BTW, Iloff is Victoria's brother.
A common saying in my group of friends when Lakewood, Joel or Victoria come up in conversation is "we ALL know Victoria's secrets" - we grew up with her (and her tirade on that airplane some years ago shocked NONE of us)

I have come to believe much of religion is charlatanry. But still, some like Joel Osteen and the airplane guy manage to take it to a thoroughly disgusting level.

As long as he's not doing anything illegal, I think the onus is on the private citizens funding his church and his lifestyle to smarten up and stop being so gullible.

Someone marked this political? Not sure why. Osteen upsets me. It upsets me that he sells a prosperity gospel and lives a lavish lifestyle at the expense of the naive. Jesus helped the Least of These. He hung out with tax collectors, lowly fishermen, women of questionable standing. This guy needs to be chased out of the pulpit: Nutjob asking people to buy him his 4th private jetI feel the same way. Neither one of them are very different than Jim Bakker. Remember him? I know someone who thinks he's just the greatest thing ever

As a Christian, I get so angry over shit like this. This is not even recognizable as the gospel. I'm reading "The Hole in Our Gospel" right now. It was written by Richard Stearns, president of World Vision. It is all about the political and social revolution of Jesus - social justice, poverty, and the kind of activism (faith in action) he expects of his followers. So many people following these prosperity preachers at mega churches have lost their damn way and it's infuriating.

Many of the evangelicals on twitter claim that Jesus' policies were about individuals helping others, not THE GOVERNMENT helping.
It's funny, cuz when it comes to LGBT and abortion, they salivate at the idea of enshrining their beliefs into law and using it as a cudgel to force others to act according to their (mistaken) views, but when it comes to the dozens of verses where Jesus admonished HELPING OTHERS, then, all of a sudden, OH NO! WE CAN'T USE THE GOVERNMENT TO ENFORCE THE WORDS OF THE BIBLE - IT SHOULD BE AN INDIVIDUAL'S CHOICE!!!

He disgusts me.
Years ago, I went to a wedding. The pastor was fundraising throughout the wedding ceremony. Shortly into the ceremony, he started talking about the church's fundraising goal, how much they still needed to meet it, and asking everyone at the wedding to donate. Throughout, he'd throw in little mentions of it. Yuck.
