I couldn't agree more. The liberals don't have much of a message except what Schumer said here, and that isn't going to get them very far:

The problem here is that you don’t understand the difference between hard news and opinion, or that bias refers to opinion while fact-based refers to hard news.

Let’s talk about the Repunlican message/agenda for a moment.

The Republicans ran on.,,,

1. Tax Cuts - that is so popular that in their re-election bid the GOP has been silent on this great tax cut because it has done nothing for the majority and very little for the poor and retired.

2. Repealing the ACA. And repeal was all the GOP had planned on doing. That was until trump promised a replacement for the ACA “that was even better”. Here we are a 1 1/2 yrs into the GOP rule and no replacement for the ACA and they are finding a cowardly way of repealing it. And the best part , she said sarcastically, is going to happen in the next few weeks when the insurance companies start releasing what markets they will be in along with the plans that will be offered and the premiums that will be charged. It won’t be pretty because I suspect the not only the individual markets will be hit hard so will the group plans through the employers feel higher than usual premium increases. And of course the “junk “policies will be back. (Psst hope you never have to submit a claim on a junk policy cause chances are it isn’t covered.) That is why they are called “junk” policies. Really.

And if the tax cuts were really tax cuts for all Americans then maybe the additional monies the average American receives from the tax cuts could help pay the higher health care insurance premiums.

But wait there is more. Did you know we are paying the highest price for gas in the last 4 years? Yup really. Read it today..

So now on top of higher health care premiums the average American has to pay more for gas. Wow. And that doesn’t even take into consideration how much higher Americans will pay for goods affected by the tariffs. And I’m not even talking about the jobs lost due to this tariff war.

Which brings me back to the tax cut/job creation bill. How the tax cut would create ALL these jobs for the trump voters. You know those folks waiting for their old jobs to come back like trump promised? Problem is this tax cut has done nothing to solve the job problem for these trump voters. The problem wasn’t that there were enough jobs, the problem was the jobs weren’t where the people who needed them were, or they don’t have the skills for these jobs, or they can’t pass a drug test. Nothing that trump or the Republicans have done in the 1 1/2 they have been in power has addressed these issues. If anything the few Federal programs that addressed any of these issues are being cut to pay for the tax cut.

That is just the tip of the iceberg of living under the “Republican message”. And it’s going to get even better when their half assed approach to immigration kicks in and farmers can’t find enough people to pick the produce and restaurants can’t find enough kitchen help and those prices start to creep up.

I put that NYPost quote at the top of this post for a reason. This is where I think the conservatives are wrong. They believe that the left “hates” trump because he’s trump. The mistake is overlooking how the left feels about what he is doing, the programs he is pushing with help from his lapdogs in Congress. The few issues I listed above are real and they will not solve the problems a) already hurting Americans and b) they will hurt even more Americans as they become fully implemented.

Yes trump is a petty little vindictive man but it’s what he is doing , with help from the lapdogs in Congress, that will determine if he wins again. That along with the GOP messsge and how well it’s doing.

The question is will enough people be feeling the hurt by November to elect enough Democrats to put the skids on these destructive progroms. Hope so, but if not, it certainly will by 2020 . And if that is the case I believe not only won’t trump win, if he is primaried and loses who ever that Republican is, they will lose also,

And it looks like the GOP won’t be running on the tax cut or the repeal/replacement of the ACA for the midterms which makes me think these issues aren’t doing very well with their base.

Yes because under Obama it was based upon an immediate need, or circumstance, and no where near the number of separations taking place now.

Under dt it is policy put in place by this administration that resulted in mass separations. with no though, no planning, no consideration. Because this administration cannot see the forest for the trees. 'Separate families - that will teach them to try to cross our borders, then I will get my money for the wall (that Mexico was paying for).' Forget about planning out the details.

This administration flies by the seat of their pants, with no coordination or planning. dt says one thing, Pompeo another, Conway another, Sessions another, etc. all in the space of one hour.

And if you are so pleased with dt, then why do you keep bringing up the PAST in your arguments.

Put forth a reasonable explanation on why dt's policies or procedures are are a positive, instead of saying that a past President did it. Circumstances change, and a policy or procedure may not necessarily apply now.

Many of us don't stop in anymore because liberals like Merge and others just can't bring themselves to be courteous and allow one thread for conservatives.  They're selfish mother f***ers but what can you do?  Did you see the one come here asking if a conservative pea had a "moral compass"?  They can't help themselves and they think that if they shut us up by calling us out and calling us names, they win.   The conservatives aren't bothering to respond to them anymore (that's part of the reason they come on this thread, they can't get us to engage on any other thread).  But, we vote.  Oh yes, we vote and right now, I'm "gloating" over the idea that Trump picks another justice for the Supreme court.  In the end, we win because our candidates win and the policies we favor win.   

So, may I suggest you find other places on facebook or elsewhere to find a decent forum that people here like Merge have no access to and remember, come November, vote!!

*sigh* CBS knows the difference. This may come as a shock to you, but most mainstream outlets publish opinion pieces from both the right and the left, labeled as 'opinion'. I know that doesn't fit the Fox/Trump narrative, but it's true. 

Honestly, the inability to discern fact from opinion, or to even think that such discernment is important, is 90% of what is wrong with this country.

If you want to post inaccuracies unchallenged, please find somewhere else to do it. Until then, expect that any member of this board can post on any thread at any time. And perhaps ask yourself why your own beliefs don't seem to stand up to any level of "grilling."

I've put several of them on block so I don't feel tempted.   When I come here and see a lot of BLOCKED people now, it doesn't bother me.  My life is a lot more calm now.  I have friends that are Trump supporters, and they follow him around the country to his rallies.  One of them has told me that the rallies are so full that lots of people don't even get in.  She's had to get there 6 hours before the start of the rally to get in.  She followed him during the election, and says there are more people now than then.  I'm sure the conservatives are gonna vote!

I've blocked several now, and it does help, but for some reason ONE of the ones I've blocked still shows up, so I must have made a mistake somewhere!  I'm going to have to figure that one out.  What would YOU like to talk about?
