My neighbour's cat knows that if she taps on the window with her itty bitty tiny pink paws then I'll go and get the Dreamies!

Sophie knows she isn't supposed to eat the cat food, but sometimes little monkeys forget. If their bowls are empty, I'll hold one up and ask if she ate the cat food. If she didn't, she comes over with a wagging tail. If she did, she tucks her head and tail and won't look me in the eye.
We tried to train her that if she comes back into the house right away when called, she gets a treat. Now she figures that if I go outside and come in, she gets a treat. If she barks to go out, she can turn around and get a treat. If she looks at the door and turns around, she gets a treat. Why bother with the middle part of actually going outside to go potty. Skip it all and just get the treat.

My English bulldog had allergy issues and immune issues and had to be bathed twice a week in special shampoo for 20 minutes.
She lived her life downstairs because she didn't like the stairs, and had to be carried up for her bath as both bathrooms were upstairs.
She would run in her crate so I couldn't pick her up and carry her upstairs the minute I decided to give her her bath. It took me forever to figure out how she knew. It was simple. When we'd run the shower upstairs for humans, we never pulled the lever for the tub stopper. I was doing that and starting the water before going to get her. She could tell whether the tub was stopped or not through a closed door and downstairs!

Nothing. He knows nothing. He lapped up the vinegar deterrent I put on the counters like it was chicken broth. I tell him for a supposedly smart dog (full lab) he's pretty dumb sometimes Thank god he's just a puppy so I'm holding out hope that one day he just wakes up a genius. We're not there yet, he pooped on the carpet yesterday after I thought we'd cracked the potty training weeks ago (he'd just gone out 10min prior and I was right there, he didn't even ask to go out again) ::sigh::

My spoiled Chihuahua girl, Ginger, knows that if I press the almost silent off button on my tablet, I might be getting up from my recliner. Therefore, if she hears that teensy little almost-a-click, she removes herself from her resting place along my left thigh, under the pillow I have across my lap to hold my tablet, and jumps down before I can put the recliner down. I was amazed at how quickly she figured this out.
Also, she knows when I am planning on giving her a bath. How does she know this? Obviously she reads my mind.....
This is a fun thread, aren't dogs/pets the best???

I'm just starting to read the replies and can say without a doubt that we have some of the most well cared for (aka spoiled) pets anywhere My mom used to say that she wanted to come back as one of her husband's children and my dad would say he wanted to come back as one of my dogs. Sometimes I wonder if he isn't inhabiting my older corgi's body with how he just lays there and judges with only eye movements.

I used to live about 2 1/2 - 3 hours away from my parents; when I'd visit them for the weekend, I'd take my cats with. They would hang out in their crate for most of the way (after they stopped yowling). But somehow the cats would know when I was at the end of their street- even BEFORE I turned onto the street to get to their house-- so they'd get restless right BEFORE I got to my parents' house. I must have done something I didn't realize with my body language that let them know-- I could never figure it out.

when I am intending to go out, he starts whining while I am getting dressed. Louis knows when I'm going out at night. I think he figures it out when I'm in my bathroom at mirror doing makeup. He knows for sure when I put on real clothes and shoes! Little dog knows everything- especially about time. I have created such a routine for him and if I forget something he lets me know!

I just had a weird thing happen with my dog. A few days ago would have been my mom’s 100th birthday. She always said she was going to live to see it, and almost made it. Anyway, I was thinking about my mom this morning and I looked at my dog and said “ I miss grandma so much” and he immediately got up from where he was laying on the couch and ran into the dining room, which I had converted as a bedroom for mom after she had broken her hip and couldn’t get to her old bedroom upstairs as easily as before. It has been turned back into a dining room since Mom passed.
Mom has been gone for 2 years now, and I haven’t said “grandma” in all that time. I am just so surprised that he not only knew that word was associated with her, but he went to the dining room to look for her instead of her bedroom upstairs that is still set up exactly as it was when she used it. It still has a few of her clothes in the closet and would smell like her more than the dining room furniture ever would. And she was using the upstairs room for years while she was only in the dining room about a year. I’m amazed at his memory. He came out wagging his tail and ran to the front door like he used to when I would say that Grandma was here when she would return from my sister’s house.
