Based on my coworkers suggestion to use glass beads instead of poly beads (less noise, smaller size). I bought a 25 pound box (younger dd wants one also if older dd likes it) of gals beads from Amazon. I made a blanket that is 63x41 inches (finished size, width was based on 45 inch fabric). Based on recommendations from Pinterest, I went with 6 inch squares, with one side being 5 inches. If I where to do it again, I would go slightly smaller, probably 5 inches. . How is it that glass beads are quieter than poly beads? Wouldn't they be breakable if the blanket was stepped on?Not sure on the noise, I haven’t played with the poly beads, but the glass beads are pretty small - think sand sized. Before I started sewing I checked to make sure they wouldn’t push through the fabric though.

Hi my PCP wanted me to get a weighted blanket and I investigated a seller in Alberta as well as talking to the Autism Society of BC where I live. I was told I needed an 18 lb blanket. Ok so I have my information now. I have a 10 lb blanket. I put another heavy blanket on me so I was up to about 14 lbs and I couldn't get it off me. I felt like I was being strangled. I am not saying this will be the same thing for you at all. It's just another opinion. To me there wasn't much difference between 14 and 18 lbs in my mind. I would do some more investigating to see if it is right for you.

Delta Dawn, that is a concern of mine too, that it will feel very constrictive. I think I could benefit from these and know my DD could so I am following the comments here with great interest.

Delta Dawn , that is a concern of mine too, that it will feel very constrictive. I think I could benefit from these and know my DD could so I am following the comments here with great interest. I had my credit card out, I contacted the seller I was recommended by the Autism Society. She went into a lot of detail about her blankets. I think I had even chosen the colour. I have this electric blanket on my bed that weighs 10 lbs. It is really heavy. Then I put on another heavy blanket and I felt like I was being crushed. I have an anxiety disorder so I am 100% the market they are catering to (as well as people on the autism spectrum). I just decided against it. I want it to work for me. Spending $200 on a blanket that I am really on the fence about didn't seem like a good idea. If you do get one please go into great detail about why you like it ok? That would really help me a lot.

Does anyone have recommendations on where to buy one? I've looked into them in the past and then forgotten, but I really think I need one for DS in particular. Severe ADHD, has a hard time sleeping, definitely craves sensory input, and loves blankets because he's often cold. He's roughly 70-75 pounds. I have not tried hers but I wouldn't hesitate to try them. You can also find them on amazon. www.namastehandmade.com/shop/22115986/ready-to-ship-now-8-lbs

My daughter's paediatrician recommended one for dd. She said to get one that is about 5-7 pounds for her. She has never been a good sleeper due to her past.
I have been researching but the cheapest one I can find here is 265.00. Just not in the budget for us right now. If I could sew, I'd make one myself too.
Hope your dd loves it.

My DD suffers from some anxiety and has been wanting one of these for awhile. I think she might ramp up with her anxiety as we are moving her tomorrow to a new place, new job and she knows no one. I need to look into making one for her. We are going out in a month for her birthday. I wonder if I can make myself get on the ball and do this?

Me and my kids have sleep issues. I really need to try these out. I know a weighted vest really helped my youngest son, who has autism and ADHD, focus better at school and therapy.

I just purchased a 15 lb blanket for $51 on Amazon! I got a 15# yesterday for DD but paid $68. I got a larger size. That is a great price. I hope this helps her sleep or rest.

Another thing to try: a heavy pillow. My husband can not sleep on a soft lightweight pillow.
