Do you feel a disinterested in DD/JYC or in the product offer? *takes out notepad and pen* *ready to scribble down some vital notes before diagnosis* Well, Dr. Booty...definitely underwhelmed with DD kit/product offerings. I will say that I have plenty-o-stash so I really shouldn't be worried about that. I also ordered Liz's kit so in all fairness I don't need anything else. Oh, and I may or may not be waiting on FJ's reveal. Last year was my first year doing DD and I think the fact of not having last year's album done is stressing me out a bit which is ridiculous when life is so much more important and that brings enough stress as it is lol. Idk. I'm just wondering if I shouldn't just work the holiday season into my regular PL album. What say you? (please prescribe me a vacation or unlimited amounts of chocolate and crystal clear sea water)

(please prescribe me a vacation or unlimited amounts of chocolate and crystal clear sea water) I can prescribe chocolate, for sure. The crystal clear sea water, well, I'm not sure your health insurance covers it (damn them!)... Chocolate it is then!
I'm all for adding Christmas/December documenting to a regular PL if you feel stressed just thinking about last year's (unfinished) project. It's not a lesser version! I'm also a major fan of people adding to their DD/JYC yearly. You can separate your album into two major parts: memories of Christmas past (childhood, young adulthood) and then add some special pages with your favourite pictures each year (and a little tab). When you run out of place, you start volume 2. And you can always go back and add old memories with new stash to the Christmas past part.
You've got to find the right compromise for you: a complete album a year (it takes some work and a lot of product - and thus money - so it's not for everyone every single year), an add-along album (your only compromise here is to accept you'll use different collections and different styles in one same album as the years go by and your stash as well as trends change) or straight-to-PL option. All are good! All are worthy of being part of the DD community on here as well.
Take it easy on yourself. Set the right priorities which are not necessarily those of other scrapbookers.
PS: I'm a big fan of smaller "normal" spine 6x8 albums for this reason... You do pages only for the memories you really want to keep (instead of trying to find 31 stories to tell) and complete the project quickly and with less product but plenty of nice large 6x8 photos (another wonderful way of filling up space if you want to keep doing the one-album-per-December kind of thing).

Not loving latest KP sneak. I like Tina's kit but not enough to buy it, same with the countdown. I don't need anymore Xmas stamps, although I am sure KP will have some cute stamps. Arghhh decisions decisions. Cancel my sub now or keep? I'm 75% thinking cancel, but FOL 20% discount and liking something is holding me back. Ugh.

nicolep I agree with Dr Booty. There are a lot of options beyond AE's version of DD. I really like JYC because 1. you only pay once and you get prompts forever and 2. you can do as much or as little scrapping as you want, about past, present, or future, and no one expects everyday/daily stories. It's just a more flexible approach, and the prompts are broad, but it's focused on Christmas, not the whole "everyday" thing that confuses DD. I can share what it looks like, if you're interested. The prompts themselves aren't secret - the class payment is more for access to the prompt essay/emails, the daily videos, and class message board. I usually do writing in a journal as I have time and inspiration, and then work on the album later. When I did DD & PL I found myself duplicating things, or feeling like stuff was missing because it was in PL but not in DD, or vice versa, and I didn't love that. If I was still doing PL I think I'd want to include my Xmas documenting in there. I do like the idea of creating an ongoing album though - my first 2-3 years are together in one album, before I started overdoing it. BTW I heard about a group on Fbk that is DD focused, but not part of AE's thing - I guess it's an "anything goes" December documenting group. I heard about it on a creative journaling YT video. I haven't checked it out but I can share the name if anyone is interested.

joblackford I’d like the name of the FB group. I’m going to be doing a December album for the first time this year and really want to include my favorite decorations, traditions etc and not necessarily my day to day life in December.

Journal Your Christmas is a great community for creating an overall YAY CHRISTMAS! kind of album. I bought the class in 2007 but didn’t make an album until 2008. Love reading the prompts every day even if I don’t use them all. It is a great concept and Shimelle doesn’t get nearly the credit she should. Maybe because she didn’t register a trademark? I haven’t even started my 2017 DD. A bad work situation squelched my usual fa-la-la-la. I plan to use Nettio Designs Holiday Faves templates and create a hybrid 6x8 of the highlights. I’ll get to it while watching football this fall.

Merry Days has still not been released. Falala was in the shops in June last year! I can't help but wonder what is going on with American Crafts this year? Goldenrod (1Canoe2) has a lot of summery accents but is expected for an autumn release. Crate Paper's Christmas line (a bestseller for the past several years) is three months late compared to last year. It's all very odd.

She said Merry Days is due in September. That does seem pretty late.

Might be a few papers to work in for those working from their stash for DD... I need a wrapping paper in that black/red/teal plaid. It is divine. I might be hoping that some of this shows up at TM next year (there are some this year) because I really want the washi from the set in the same pattern and they've gotten some washi tubes this year...it seems ridiculous to buy the whole tube for one roll unless it's dirt cheap.

I ended up catching up during the buzz of December daily the following year. Then the next year I successfully completed the project. I went on to skip a year and then successfully did it again. Maybe this year is your year. 😀

September does seem quite late for new Christmas lines and we’re at mid September now so does that mean late September or practically early October?

Im in THIS DD group (not AE connected). Thank you! Yes, that's the one I heard about. KelleeM and pancakesKelleeM what you're describing sounds very much like what Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas is like. Not that you need to join in and pay for the class if you already have a plan, but it's the key difference between her project and Ali's - the focus on holiday life (and memories) vs December everyday life. JYC prompts are very general, talking about favorite holiday treats, plans, traditions, decorating, how you count down, etc etc but the focus is on Christmas generally, even if this year's particular Christmas turns out to be a suck-fest (which is how she started the project, when she was struggling to process some bad holiday experiences and memories). caspad I think the name is part of what held JYC back - I think maybe people are put off by the word "journal" or don't even realize it's a scrappy project. Combining that with Shimelle not charging alumni each year for the class, not promoting it heavily, and not going into partnership with a big kit club - although she does a kit it's far more limited and I think the timeline is better suited to Euro participants (and I think is intentionally aimed at them, since they don't have the choice US scrappers do). I think maybe Shimelle didn't want to become such a big deal, and maybe didn't want to overcommit herself during the holiday season too. I get the feeling she's happy with the business she's built for herself. And TBH I think it's better, staying focused and not getting so caught up in the "celebrity" of being a Big Name Scrapbooker. The fact that we don't know either her husband's or her son's names but we've all seen AE napping in bed with hers...

Maybe because she didn’t register a trademark? It's interesting to see what gets called a December Daily... I watched a YouTuber guy who makes a TN art journal page every day in December talking about his "December Daily" and it was quite clear that where he was getting inspiration from had NOTHING whatsoever to do with AE's project. I wonder if that makes her proud or mad. The alliterative name is very catchy and so flexible for so many kinds of daily December projects.

Idk. I'm just wondering if I shouldn't just work the holiday season into my regular PL album. I have finished 4 so I'm hardly an expert. I would say either stop doing Project Life for December so you can make a December Daily. OR just do December Daily in your PL album if that format works for you. I can't imagine having enough to scrap about if I were to keep them separate (if I did PL but I don't have time for that but I would like to do it one day). I also don't have time for one story per day. And sometimes my days are darn boring. "Here I am in my office grading papers..." My DD is one xmas event per day. This year my daughter is in a ballet that is Nov. 3 weekend so that will be page 1. I do a page of the Elf on the Shelf's shenanigans (even though they happen every day), a page for gifts I give to my family, etc. Also let me confess: I don't journal. Not one word. I sometimes put a title word on a page if I want to but mostly I don't feel like writing about what it felt like to go and get a Christmas tree because I can see from the photos that we were happy because it was gorgeous or we were having fun even though it was drizzling. I like taking pictures. I like that DD gives me the excuse to do more than be a homebody during the season, and I like playing with pretty paper and stickers. Here is a link to my 2013 album: I broke the rules but it makes me happy to see it. I'm so glad I do this every year. I haven't really documented any other years of the albums I've made. So you should do what's easy and what you will finish because that will make you happy.

DD gets strictly Christmas stuff - decor, holiday traditions, etc. PL gets the more regular December stuff - studying for finals, banquets, etc. That being said, this coming year is the last year I plan on having two. Being a soon-to-be empty nester with no grandkids, not sure I will have enough to do a full DD album and PL at the same time.

I accidentally got in trouble last year though for posting a link to my free Christmas printables.. even though they were free, my website has a ‘shop’ to download them from.. which isn’t a shop because everything is free but I wanted to know how many people actually downloaded my planner.. but anyway! We had a DD group a few years back run by an Aussie lady and it was the best DD group. Ali was in the group, but it wasn’t her group.. then she trademarked the term, created her own group, left the awesome group, and most people jumped ship too. It was a shame as it had a more community feel than her ginormous group, and it didn’t matter what product you used.

I've found one of the AE chipboard December Daily albums from 2014 in the back of a cupboard, but it only has four rings. Will the Simple Stories page protectors fit that configuration? i think they are in two different places. I just punched holes where needed last year, wasn't noticeable once its all in there.

Thank you so much for giving us your personal insight and in-depth view of the album! Looks really great. Good luck with the self-editing (I mean that #nosarcasm). It's a good mental and emotional exercise in trying to find what's truly meaningful and important for the long run in life.
And oh, that accent! *le swoon* I love Aussie and Kiwi accents. *puts some shrimp on the barbie*
