The more I see posted, the more I'm thinking of canceling my account. While some posts are great, I also see a lot of inappropriate posts. Addresses of "possible" offenders, photos of individuals that match someone's ID, hand slaps, etc. Sure they can be reported and deleted, but once it's out there, it's out there. Is your Nextdoor neighborhood like this?

Yes, and it's nothing but freaking drama. I read it for the laughs, usually.

I am a member of my neighborhood under a phony name. I also read the drama for laughs but I also get useful info from it.

I thought seeing the neighborhood drama was the only reason to join nextdoor, you were looking for something else?

Ours is pretty quiet. Usually gardening tips, lost and found pets, and work offered. So far no shaming, that seems to be reserved for the town facebook page. That page is awful sometimes. People snap photos of people's license plate: this one goes too slow, this one cut me off, this one goes to fast, this one was tailing me...tattle tattle tattle.

I am. But I am signed up for the daily digest, so I get one email naming the threads, and then can click on the ones that interest me and ignore the rest. In the past I've found my RE agent from recommendations there, my painter, my housecleaners, and most recently a woman who used to have an upholstery shop who saw my posting looking for someone to make throw pillows for me. I've also sold and given away things on it. Overall I find it to be a positive place as long as I don't get sucked into reading some of the more fractious threads.
There are repeated long, harsh threads about our local government. People treat "the other side" as badly as some do here, which is shocking to me. These are your neighbors for heaven's sake! The political divisiveness is astounding. The other hot topics are homelessness/mentalhealth/drug addiction which is a HUGE problem in Seattle. Also, if you read the posts you'd think that petty crime has taken over the city/neighborhood. Yes, it's a problem...definitely! But, not to the extent that one would think from reading the posts.

We have a great group of moderators who take care of issues immediately. Rarely does some inappropriate items get through and if so, they don't last long. I love that right now people are trading vegies form their gardens and have started book clubs.

Ours is pretty tame, mostly recommendations, alerts about missing pets, warnings about bears or mountain lions, etc.

Mine is mostly missing cat, coyote sighting over and over and over.
I do find it informative and used it to give away a sofa bed to a nice couple when it didn't fit our new house. The drama is a bonus.

I think that's part of the problem with ours. The moderator is just as guilty of participating in threads like that. Oh and I reported a post once because that person posted someone's address to publicly shame them. Shortly after, I was reported and had to verify that my name was truly who I said I was! I had to provide a utility bill proving that I lived in the area and that my name was accurate!

I am here and I was in California. The one here is completely quiet. The one from our neighborhood in CA was at times a huge drama. Every single 4th of July for 2 weeks afterward was neighbors accusing neighbors of shooting off fireworks and Oozies (? Guns) people loosing their hearing from said fireworks, neighbors saying their homes could have exploded. You get the drift. One time I posted because one night, a truck had hit a coyote and it was dead on my side yard. I didn’t want the kids walking to school to touch it because of possible diseases. And I let everyone know that I had contacted Animal Control to pick it up. There were responses from how could someone hit a coyote and how it must have suffered, to coyotes are so good for parks because they kill the moles.

You will find only the best of the best here. twitter.com/bestofnextdoorLately, my Nextdoor (which includes surrounding neighborhoods) has been about the large homeless camp in the wash and in the neighborhood park. Lots of pictures of people taking of with delivered packages and there are lots of car break-ins to cars that were left unlocked. People seem to be shocked when that happens. Lots of suspicious slow driving cars and ANYONE with a backpack is suspicious and should be watched.

I am and I don't see drama. I actually see more of it on my neighborhood listserve. lol. Nextdoor was how we connected a little white dog named Bambino who my dd found walking down the street, with his owner who was at work worried to death. (owner went to work, his dad was at home waiting for a service person, service guy showed up, opened the door, Bambino ran out, dad called son at work, dad went out searching in the rain, dd was walking a neighbor's dog and happened to see Bambino, a woman passing by with her dog took a photo of dd and Bambino and posted it on Nextdoor, and the rest is history as they say...)

The biggest topic in mine is lost dogs. While I appreciate the idea, sometimes there are just so many that I have occasionally thought of unsubscribing. Most of the time though it is pretty tame.

I am a member of nextdoor. Our mod keeps the drama cut off so it is a good place to find a recommendation for just about any kind of service work you need. There are posting for books clubs, bunko groups and other social stuff. Lost dogs, found cats (why it is the dogs are never "found" and the cats are never posted as lost I dunno) Notices about things that will impact the neighborhood like road repair on the major roads bordering our neighborhood that will cause traffic delays. Information about the power outage at 2 pm on a bright sunny day...

I was but unsubscribed. Same with my town's "unofficial" Facebook news and discussion group. Too much blatant racism, homophobia, etc... and general fucknut attitudes.
The last straw was an "alert" about a black man walking down a street that passed between my neighborhood and the one next to it. They were burning up the messages warning people to lock your doors and keep your guns at hand.

I am and last month, out of the blue, I got a notice that I was/am now the "Lead" for our group. !! Not a job I solicited nor wanted. However, it gave me the power to shut down a thread that was full of stupid comments regarding the upcoming elections. Ours is supposed to be no politics, so I just "closed the discussion." No one has started a thread demanding for it to be open or starting a new one.
We have tons of lost pets. I get a little annoyed because the one posting gives the notice to everyone in north Dallas. I realize pets wander, but I doubt that dog/cat came over 10 miles.
It is nice to know some suburban city news via Next Door such as zoning changes.

Not on Nextdoor, but our neighborhood (new and still growing) has a FB page. It used to be so nice...discussions about the pool opening, lost pets, issues with pests, and our annual block party. Of course there were only 15 houses out here then. But now, it's usually full of "dog poop in my yard" and snapshots of tailgaters. (my daughter included, with a picture of her car/license plate, which I appreciate the info, but the lady had already followed her home and yelled at my kid, so I had her call me. I apologized, gave my kid a talking to, and asked her to remove the post. It's so passive aggressive and if you were already at my home, why not just come TO my door? Another lady posted that there were kids partying at 2:30 am behind her fence...um, call the sheriff...I would! And then another piled on that there were kids on the roof of a house. (in the summer!? say it isn't so! Not illegal.) Seriously making me want to unsub. They are just a bunch of busybodies IMNSHO.

I am on our Nextdoor. There are some good informative posts, but there is a lot of silly drama. People complaining about the type of new business moving in, arguments about off-leash dogs (which is illegal, but it is such a big pile-on it gets hilarious), someone hears one siren and want to know right away what is going on, etc. Lot of hand slapping.

I am but I only go there when I am looking for recs and such. I unsubbed from the daily digest after Harvey last year because of the stupid threads about the levee system that no one seemed to understand, but yet people were convinced that they were somehow to blame for not holding back mountains of water.
In any case, the hottest topic around here seems to be how shocking it is that cars get broken into [when the owner clearly admits to leaving it unlocked] and the demands for the sheriff/police to "do something about it."

I'm a member, but I stopped receiving the daily summary and just go on occasion. It's either boring stuff like ads to sell houses or someone looking for a handyman. There is no drama in my area - just nothing really of interest.
