Hello, everyone! I'm so happy to be here for CARDtober. I'm seeing some amazing cards from you all--and it's only day three! My challenge to you is to use vellum on your card. Use it as an accent, die cut it, use it as a window in your card, or any other way you can think up. I've seen some beautiful examples where people have stamped and colored it to create a stained glass effect. So, there are no rules for this challenge other than just get some vellum on your card in any way shape or form I hope you enjoy my samples using vellum in two different ways. Here is a shaker card using vellum for the window instead of acetate: Card - Hello with vellum by saralovestocreate, on Flickr And here I've used a die cut heart of vellum to anchor my sentiments together: CARD - CARDtober challenge #3, vellum by saralovestocreate, on Flickr Thank you to everyone joining us this month, and happy creating!

Both these cards are beautiful, lovestocreate. Love the soft colours. The vellum on the shaker card really changes the look, and I love the stitch lines. And that heart is a really subtle element.

Oh fun! I love your sample cards Vellum is so soft and lovely - I love the subtlety of it. I especially love the vellum shaker. I will definitely try that sometime. I was just watching a video the other night about using Tombow markers to color on vellum so I might give that a go for my card.

They are gorgeous, simply gorgeous I don't think I've seen a shaker card done with vellum and it's beautiful, so soft and ethereal. Hmm, I haven't got any vellum, though I can imitate it in Photoshop. But I really fancy trying some now; wonder if it cuts with a Cameo??

Here is my vellum card. CardTober #3 by Gramma Dee, on Flickr I love vellum, had a million ideas running through my head, but needed a little inspiration to figure out just what I wanted to do with it this morning. So I went to Pinterest where I found THIS pin I realized I had a similar embossing folder, (and that folder was right where it was supposed to be, with my Christmas dies and folders), so my card went pretty quickly.

You might have to double cut though.

JaneB Set your paper type to Washi Sheet, that works for me. You might have to double cut though. Thanks! Although I'll have to scare up some vellum... and after the disaster I had today with my cut settings I shouldn't be let loose with the Cameo again

Here are a couple more cards with embossed vellum. I used the small round foam applicator to apply the TH Oxide inks to the back of the vellum pieces. cardtober #3 sympathy by Gramma Dee, on Flickr

Here is my card for the Vellum challenge. I've been wanting to make this card for a while, and I'm not sure why I haven't. This Pretty Pink Posh Darling Dragonflies set is just too cute. I heat embossed the dragonflies on vellum and colored the back with Tombow pens to mute the color. I stamped the Pinkfresh Springfield stamp in light grey ink (although it looks darker in the photo), then added the rainbow of dragonflies. ETA: I didn't add adhesive to the wings and fluffed them up so IRL they stand up a bit. Attachments:

I used a snowflake embossing folder (I think cuttlebug brand) to emboss some shimmering metallic vellum. Overlaid it to the front of a card made with Stampin Up Soft Sky cs. Cut the sentiment (simon says stamp) 3 x from red SU cs scraps with stick-it on the back and adhered them to make a thicker sentiment. Cut the tree (simon says stamp) from scraps. Adhered everything to the card front, then I put nuvo shimmer pen on the title, then a layer of glossy accents. To put the vellum on the card I left some on the top and folded it back, and adhered it to the backside of the card. Then I used glue in behind the tree and title to stick the vellum to the card front.

I tried out the vellum shaker idea. The Tonic mirror gold cardstock was leftover from a kit, the stag I cut out from the Memory Box die I've used in day 1, the Merry and Bright die is from MFT I think. Background cardstock is a shimmery metallic grey from Joann. I bought the iridescent snowflakes years ago for DD or maybe they came in a DD kit, but I love them, and I thought they had a really pretty subtle look behind the vellum, with a few glued on top for extra shine and dimension. I was going to use sequins in the shaker but the ones I had looked too busy, even though the vellum. I'm going to try this idea again - I love it. I might need some fake snow fluff... I tried - and failed miserably - at a vellum shaker card. And after I picked myself up and dusted off (metaphorically of course) - I decided to go another route. I have embossing folders that I have never, ever used...so decided to emboss vellum instead and make birthday cards for my sister and mum.

CARDtober challenge 3. I used a light green vine printed vellum as an overlay for a darker vine patterned paper. They were from different manufacturers, but they seemed to go well together. The sentiment, tag, and stamped flowers are Heartfelt Creations.

Mel, that shaker card is really cute. scrapnnana, Great way to use vellum to tone down a busy background so the message & focal image stand out. Love those purple flowers!

Everyone's vellum cards are lovely! I have never been all that fond of using vellum, but seeing how many different ways it has been used for the challenge is really inspiring.

freeatlast I agree with the others that the vellum jar is perfect. The flowers are beautiful. And that background die cut is awesome - I might need to buy that cover plate die now, seeing how you've used it. I love the simplicity, but it adds so much to the card. Maybe I can replicate something like that with my ScanNCut... ((thinky face))

There's no physical vellum around the house and it's unlikely I'll get any soon so, digital vellum it is with little embossed hearts! I think I was still on challenge#2 as well because I have my bear popping out of his window! It's a shame really, this will never look as good if I try to make it with card grammadee you know I think I've got a similar Christmas tree design, wonder if I can figure out how to emboss that too? Your card is lovely - and I think I will get some vellum eventually, although embossing without a computer will be beyond me Your sympathy cards are excellent, love the soft yellow. GiantsFan I love your card! Now I've got an idea how to use vellum without embossing, thank you. That card is gorgeous, fun, cute and beautiful gale w I've never seen shimmery metallic vellum it looks gorgeous. joblackford that's a great shaker card, the deer/stag (I never know which to call it!) is such a great Christmas motif, which I've never used... Mel look at all those little hearts! What a great card Linda you made me giggle. Embossed vellum is the way to go when all shakers fail scrapnnana I love purple and green, this is beautiful.

Great set of cards, nylene! Those vellum flowers look very delicate and the embossing gives them a lovely texture.
