LavenderLayoutLady asked us what our scrappy strength was, and several people responded with their super power. But what is it that shuts down the creativity for you? For me it is all mood. If I am happy, mojo comes with it. If I am worried or sad or angry at someone or something, my creativity goes into lockdown.

Lack of sleep. I battle with bouts of insomnia, so when I’m not sleeping, I am not creating.

Definitely mood for me. If I’m feeling stressed or really tired or emotionally drained I find it hard to create.

Lack of sleep, stress (emotional or otherwise), health problems, or anything that saps my energy and/or makes it hard to sleep--all those things usually leave me no energy or mental inclination to do any crafting.

My cat. I sit down at the table to scrapbook, and she has to be nosy and plop down right in the middle of it all. Nothing gets accomplished.

The internet, I go to check something online for a minute and then pretty soon over an hour has passed and then I lose my desire to scrapbook.

When I'm worried or sad, I can't be creative. I only like my pages when I make them while happy. It's been a rough couple of years, and my lack of scrappy productivity shows it.

I wish I knew cause at the moment I'm struggling to scrap! I think I went too hard at it in Sketchtember and I need to let my creativity levels build back up or something!
Otherwise it's probably colours. If I have to scrap with colours I don't like, it doesn't work. I was on a DT for a magazine once and had to use some collections that I really struggled with, a Doodlebug xmas line was one of them in red & green and I struggled bad! The DT I am on now lets us choose what we want to work with, otherwise I would have said no cause I don't do well having to work with product I don't like. By the way, I love Doodlebug, I'm just not a fan of Christmas and hate red & green together which is why I struggled with that collection, it wasn't Doodlebugs fault! More me and my dislike of xmas.

Mood for me too. I can't scrap about people I'm mad at lol. It totally shuts down my creativity. My space being a mess is a demotivator as well as lack of sleep.

I don't want to start scrapping unless I have a big free chunk of time available. So if I'm waiting for someone to come over, or a phone call, or I have an appointment later that day I have problems sitting down and getting creative...

So if I'm waiting for someone to come over, or a phone call, or I have an appointment later that day I have problems sitting down and getting creative... OMGosh, I didn't think anyone but me suffered from this ailment! I've been pushing myself to scrap during shorter periods, but when I'm waiting for something to happen, I tend to fidget and fuss and want to be busy (like small tidying chores) and I have a hard time settling in. My other blocker is the iPad. If I slip into a game like candy crush, so much time gets wasted!

My kryptonite is the fact that I am so behind in printing photos. I haven't kept hard copies of photographs for about 8 years & they are all on phones & hard drives. I have photo printers at home and print off what I want to scrapbook, but I want to get caught up on having photographs off the hard drives.
I'm trying to figure out a way to attack this and start getting things printed.
Its killing my creativity & weighing on me.

absolutely my mood. i was getting ready to do something recently and my boyfriend pissed me off and that was that. i did finally go create, but only after i took a very long nap! along the same lines, if i get interrupted a lot it really kills the mojo. that's why i like scrapping late at night and early in the morning when all the interruptors are still sleeping! (and tangent; these people are grown-ass adults, they can't leave me alone to do my thing?! what's up with that??)

No time. I usually have an hour in the evening, but lately it's been constant interruptions. I love my family, but they want to talk (phone). Last night my sweet brother came over to do a quick repair for me, bless him, but he stayed 2 hours chatting. I was fine with that, but there went my scrap time.

Mine is not having the supplies I want for certain photos. I will sit there and move stuff around or push it aside when my supplies aren't working.

Time, when my scrap room is a mess, and sometimes journaling and/or photo printing will all de-rail me.

The internet, I go to check something online for a minute and then pretty soon over an hour has passed and then I lose my desire to scrapbook. this! Also stress/poor health - and back in the day - pregnancy...I lost all creative mojo (sewing, scrapbooking) when I was pregnant - I'm 48 now so that's no longer an issue, lol. I also tend to focus on one hobby at a time - so if I'm focused on sewing or genealogy - scrapbooking doesn't happen. On the flip side....the sewing project on my desk isn't happening right now.

A bad mood (anger, anxiety and sadness). It used to be that when I was upset with my kids, scrapping actually made me feel better. It was the only exception but not anymore.
Too much clutter. I like to shop and have too much stuff so there are areas that are going to have a few piles on them even if I'd prefer them clear...I'm talking more about my work spaces mostly. If the mess is too much (or I'm just having a bad day) I get overwhelmed quite easily. On days where I'm just overly anxious or feeling overwhelmed by the goings on in life, it doesn't even have to be too much stuff. Any non completely clean surface that I have to use will do it to me. I'm somehow drawn to them like a magnet so if I try to work in the space that isn't cluttered, I still manage to repeatedly knock over the stuff in the parts that have miscellaneous stuff unrelated to what I am trying to work on.. It only makes me feel more overwhelmed and I just have to walk away.

Time. The more free time I have, the less motivated I am. It is weird. I am the MOST productive on a project when I have to walk out the door in 5 minutes. When I'm not near my scrappy stuff, it's all I can think about doing, but when I'm able to work on it (like now) I can't be bothered because I don't feel there is any hurry. I'm also the type that is more productive being micromanaged because I get distracted SOOO easily.

If I am worried or sad or angry at someone or something, my creativity goes into lockdown. this is it for me, too... if I've had a bad/crappy day, or if we've been arguing, going into my craft room to scrapbook happy, smiling pictures of some fun event is SO not something I can do; it just feels forced or fake. For negative stuff, I do art journaling-- I don't scrap anything negative or the 'hard times' at all. So I need to be in a good mood to scrap. Too much chaos and disorganization in my crafting space also messes with my head, but my mood is more major. I've slowly gotten used to doing something small if I only have 10-15 minutes, but I do like large chunks of time to scrap-- at least 2-4 hours or more. That's why I scrap late at night-- but that's not good for my sleep, which messes with my mood, so... I typically don't get much scrapping done unless I'm at a weekend retreat.

For me, if I am the least bit tired or if I am in a bad mood, I just can’t scrap. I also don’t see DH much, so if he is home and not working on his own project, I like to be with him.

If I'm not careful, my pocket pages layouts look like 70's photo albums.

If mine is working on a project, I can’t scrap. He can’t stand to do anything alone, even if it’s just watching him/keeping him company. Drives me batty. So I moved my mess into the living room and scrap during our tv programs in the evening.

I have several big projects that I haven't touched and the thought of starting them in daunting...so I shut down creatively even thinking about them. I have to break down big project into smaller projects or I am the same way. For example, I can't just lump our week at the lake with the grands into one envelope and think I'll work on it. I break it up into swimming at the lake, making cupcakes, fishing, playing games, etc. Good luck!
