wow, scary! My brother is extremely nearsighted (although he's had cataract surgery, so has artificial lenses to correct his vision) and had both of those things happen, too, I think-- I know the retinal detatchment was an emergency while they were on vacation, IIRC. From what I read, I think these issues are *more* likely to occur in people with extremely bad vision, since our eyes are so stretched out of shape? I've also been nearsighted (-8.0, -8.5) most of my life and something bad happening with my vision is one of my biggest fears.
I'm glad you got seen and got a diagnosis, and that now they know to keep an eye on it in the future (no pun intended, lol).

Update: I went to my follow up appointment today. The floaters seem to be about the same, while the flashes have lessened. He said everything looks good and to have it checked yearly unless something changes. I thought I would need to be checked more often. I need a new prescription so I think after this I’ll try to time it so I see the optometrist 6 months after the ophthalmologist and end up being checked every 6 months at least.
