When we bought this house 2 years ago, it was neat, but not particularly clean. (The previous owner was a bachelor. Nice house, nice neighborhood, but he apparently was not aware of the need to clean beyond the floors and counters. We got a bit off due to the cleanliness issue.)
The shower door had soap scum. I thought. Maybe it's just YEARS of soap scum from the previous owner, but it's proven impenetrable.
I have spent 2 years trying every product and tip I could find. At most, I can take some of the opacity away. But I have never gotten it down to clear.
The best product/tip I have found so far is Barkeeper's Friend, but even that could not get rid of the opacity entirely.
2 years trying....
Help!
Any ideas?

My mother is a hoarder. I recent,y did her bathroom and I was completely shocked that the glass looked like new
I used a spray mr muscle cleaner that made a loud fizz noise, left it for 15 minutes, then I used a brush meant for dishes one that has washing up liquid on the handles I scrubbed with that, then with a wet towel and a lot of work, I rubbed it clean, then I dried it with a towel til the smear was gone, It was a horrible job but the glass came up like brand new and they were pretty gross

Lime away. Spray it on, let it sit and repeat.

Thanks for the tips. Have tried Lime Away (did nothing, actually) and the Dawn-vinegar mix (did very little.)

Yes, my best tip for dealing with shower doors is to do away with them and just get shower curtains. I have a cloth one that hangs outside, and a cloth-like waterproof one that hangs inside. We had shower doors before we moved to this place and I hated those things. ugh.

Mr clean magic eraser.
Seriously, our shower doors are ridiculous with soap scum settling into the textured pattern.
The eraser make all the difference.

I have been very happy with NORWEX DESCALER, you may have to use it 2X.... I would also use a scrubber/scraper made for a glass topped stove. GOOD LUCK, I HATE cleaning shower doors

re getting rid of the doors? Wish we could! Unfortunately, the way the shower/bathroom is configured, there is no way to get rid of the glass without redoing the entire bathroom. Since we are only planning on being here another year or so, that's not happening!
Magic Eraser let me down -- did nothing.
I will look into the other products I have not yet tried.
Thanks for the tips. Keep them coming if you have them! (Since we are hoping to sell in the not so distant future, I DO desperately want those doors clean!)

That scrubbing bubbles battery-operated automatic shower cleaner sprayer was the only thing that worked on our glass shower door. It was/is a miracle. You hang it from the shower head arm and press the button after you get out of the shower and it rotates the spray, like a sprinkler. It took about a month, but a decades’ worth of soap grime disappeared with no scrubbing. Now it keeps it clean.

Do you have especially hard water? We do and mine are permanentally etched from it. Have tried all solutions listed above except Norwex to no avail.

Have you tried cleaning the doors with a powdered water softener like Calgon? Years ago I had success with mixing Calgon water softener (powdered) and a powdered cleanser like Comet to clean a build up of soap scum from shower doors. You could try starting with just the softener and see if that helps to dissolve the build up. I've also read that Borax will work as well.

We had shower doors before we moved to this place and I hated those things. ugh. Exactly this. I removed the doors and hung a curtain. Soooo much better and cleaner. Before I did that, I used oven cleaner on the glass. It was the only thing that would cut through the hard water deposits. That was back in the 70s and 80s on ripple glass. You might try it on a spot and see what it does.

I had the same issue, although mine hadn't been on as long. The only thing I found that worked was Glass/Ceramic stove top cleaner, the cream type. I'd tried pretty much everything listed on here, most notably CLR, Magic Eraser, Drill brush, dawn/vinegar, and Kaboom. I thought I was dealing with soap scum. Nope. Hard water spots. The glass stove top cleaner was like magic.
If it has been 2 years, it's possible the hard water minerals have pitted the glass and there is nothing that can be done. But try out that cream cleaner. I literally shed a tear because I'd been so frustrated over it and it worked so easily.
Edit: if it does work, then the way to keep it from building back up is to use a squeegee on the glass daily. The water sitting there is what etches it. And clean regularly. Frequency is more important than product once you're starting from a clean surface, in my experience.

You could try making a paste with baking soda and dawn dish detergent. Smear it on and let sit then spray with white vinegar so it bubbles. Scrub. This works for lots of surfaces. A vertical shower door might be a challenge.
Also, denture tablets like Polident are good for cleaning.

Our kettle gets snowy from the mineral. Cold vinegar does nothing but hot vinegar gets it off just like that. I poured the hot vinegar into the Keurig reservoir and it bubbled and carried on and all of the hard mineral came off.

Dryer sheets work pretty well on soap scum. I just take one in and scrub while I am showering about once a month or so.
Anyone got a miracle product for dirty tile grout? That's what I can't seem to get clean!

Anyone got a miracle product for dirty tile grout? That's what I can't seem to get clean! Steam cleaner with a brass brush on the nozzle. Best thing I've found so far. Bonus is no cleaners needed.

I use the Zep shower and tub cleaner from Home Depot if my shower doors get dirty. Ive tried most things mentioned here and the zep is a miracle worker. One warning - the stuff smells bad and I’m sure I’m taking years off my life by breathing the fumes but when the door needed a good clean it worked.
We squeegee and wipe down after every shower so now my glass stays very clean.

That's what I can't seem to get clean! Dirty groat is a pain, I broke down and paid to have it cleaned and resealed when we moved in (and out of) our last house....this house only has tile at the entrance and washrooms and the grout is dark to match the tiles...may be dirty but I can’t tell!!!

Could they be frosted to begin with? This, and also I have seen glass become permanently frosted from soap scum and hard water scale. It won't come off because it is etched.

Soft scrub with bleach. I use one of those yellow/green scrubbing pads with it on my glass doors.
May need to do a soak and scrub several times.
