Samsonite soft sided with four wheels...I buy it at TJ Maxx or Marshalls. I check my bags almost every flight and I fly frequently. They have held up very well.

I always go for Samsonite soft cases - I have one that's 18 years old and is still going strong and it's done a lot of travel including through various part of Asia. The latest purchase now has spinner wheels. Personally I think what you pay for and my experience is that if you pay a bit more you get a better quality case that will last.

We’ve developed this weird system of ferrying stuff back and forth by buying thrift store suitcases on one end of the journey and then donating them to a different thrift store on the other end.
No, you can’t find spinners (suitcases with four wheels) at thrift stores. Someday...

Luggage is so poorly made and gets so abused by baggage handlers that it’s practically disposable! My husband travels a ton for work, and I feel like a suitcase may only last him a few months. I think I’m going to start buying it at Costco so when it inevitably gets wrecked I can return it. ETA I prefer hard sided, with spinner wheels and compartments inside. Although hard sided doesn’t seem any more durable than soft. Why would you return luggage to Costco after having it for a few months when it is in no way their fault the luggage got ruined? I get this may be within their return policy guidelines, but it's certainly an abuse of the policy and the reason why they have to keep changing their already generous return policy. Most luggage you buy comes with a warranty through the manufacturer. Use that. Or buy cheap luggage you don't mind replacing every few months. I bought nice hard sided luggage with 360 wheels - I travel for work - a lot. I bought it at least 3 years ago, maybe a little longer, and it's held up fine. It has plenty of scars to show for it's troubles, but it's not broken at all. Well, I suppose if Costco sells a product that can only perform its intended function for a few months before it is destined for the landfill, then you can bet that if the return policy allows me to return the item, I most certainly will.

Hard side with 360 degree wheels purchased at a discount store like TJ Mazz, Tuesday Morning, Marshal's... Almost , except I prefer soft-sided.

FYI, a quick google tells me that generally items that are returned to Costco (with the exception of food) are passed back to the vendor/manufacturer. So if Samsonite is in the practice of making shitty luggage that can’t withstand abuse from baggage handlers and selling said shitty luggage at Costco, when consumers return said shitty luggage to Costco, it probably isn’t poor Costco that’s taking the financial hit, it’s Samsonite. As it should be.

Soft-sided with four wheels. Marshall’s carries a brand we like that seems to hold up pretty well. The logo is bright yellow letters but I can’t remember what the name is! #middleaged

We used to travel by car quite often so I bought a nice set of matching luggage. I also traveled a bit for work, but not too often. I wanted something soft sided so that it weighed less. I was lucky enough to find a luggage store going out of business near a restaurant we frequented in another city. I knew the place was there, but wasn’t in the mood to get luggage until I saw their closing out sign. We put dinner on hold and shopped. It is soft sided, bulletproof luggage that I am really happy with. I would have to go look at the brand, but Tumi comes to mind.

They were expensive, but I’ve had them for over 10 years now and they are still as good as new. And I travel a lot!

I have a set of leopard print Heys polycarbonite luggage with 360 spinner wheels that I absolutely love! It's definitely not the least expensive luggage around, but it's by no means the most expensive either. I've had my set for about 10 years and it's traveled quite a bit with me all around the US and abroad. It does have some scuff marks from baggage handling, but overall, it's held up great! I also highly recommend the packing cubes from eBags. They make a huge difference in how wrinkled clothes get in a suitcase. The cord cubes are also great for packing all your chargers, spare batteries, headphones, etc. It keeps everything nice and tidy so you don't end up with a big knot of cables in the bottom of your bag. I bought some cheaper cubes from Amazon trying to save a little money. Their quality didn't come close to the quality of the cubes from eBags, so I returned them.
