I swore up and down I was not going to get another rescue horse. Losing both of my oldies after loving them and babying them for five and six years was too heart breaking. My plan was to buy a nice, healthy riding horse. Something that was young that I would be able to enjoy for years to come.
And then a rescue group a couple hours away put on a free adoption day yesterday. Of course, I had to go look. I adopted a little black horse. He's adorable and *almost* fits everything I was looking for. For the low, low price of free I decided to take a chance. The group doesn't know much about him but guesses that he was abandoned and turned out with their wild herd about two years ago. Apparently up in that area they have seen that happen before when owners no longer want to feed their horses through the winter. They're keeping him and putting a couple weeks training on him for me before he comes home.
I'm sincerely hoping I haven't made a huge mistake. Here he is though, anyone want to give some name suggestions?

He’s wonderful! I’d vote for “Beauty,” as in Black Beauty. Growing up, I had a black mare who was named Satin.

Good luck with him. He looks like a beauty! My grandpa had a horse that was black but she had a white streak on her face. I don't remember her name.

Nothing is ever wrong with rescuing a wayward being. True.
I'm just worried I don't have enough experience for him and it will result in me getting broken bones.  Luckily this particular group has a very lenient contract so if he doesn't work out I can re-home him myself to a more suitable owner. He's very calm and friendly though and has obviously been saddled before. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed he'll be just fine for me. |

He's got the dark, shaggy look of my 2 childhood ponies. Their names were Curio and Sonny. I like Knight though.
What a great thing to do, good on you! If I am ever lucky enough to have some land, I've always told myself I'd get a rescue horse.
