For this challenge, you’ll still get craft related things done, but not projects. For this challenge you need to spend some time on organizing, editing photos, cleaning, tagging digital kits, putting pages in albums, etc. Things that are needed, but not necessarily the fun part. Come tell us what you’ve done. This challenge runs all month. For anyone. For the Monthly Team Challenge points you get 1 point for each one hour of work time. The time does not have to be consecutive, just keep track until your total is 60 minutes. grammadee, for challenge list

Hopefully, this month I'll re-clean the island piece and finally get the small section of the work desk cleaned. No promises though.

Well last month I logged a whole lot of organising time. I consolidated a lot of my craft room, reorganising the boxes in my Expedits and making more room. I also got a new Raskog type cart which I made into a mixed media cart and made more room on my desk. So I have this lovely tidy & organised craft room which I now have no mojo to even use! I hope the mojo returns at some stage.

I bought a pack of tiny zip bags yesterday, and I spent this morning going through my "jewelry boxes" with my brads and sequins and other bits. I have 2 divided plastic boxes that are made for cross stitch floss. Everything was all loose in each compartment, and there were a bunch of embellishments I wanted to add that were taking up space dumped into a drawer that I rarely go in. By bagging everything I was able to fit 3x as much into each of those compartments! I even have empty spots for adding future goodies

i need to do a big clean before i even start on any challenges for november. my space is a disaster! and like kiwigirl, i just bought another raskog knock-off that i need to fill up. i'm hoping to make some shelf space because at the rate i'm scrapping, i'm filling albums like crazy and have nowhere to put them!

I did some organising last month but forgot to log it. I need to tidy up my digital files. When I'm creating I tend to save bits all over the place, so now I have to go find them and put them in their proper place. In fact, my whole system needs a bit of an overhaul now.

I will be cleaning and organizing my scrapbook room this evening. It is such a mess and seems to become the place where even I put something that I can’t find a place for. (

I need this one. I neglected it last month so I’m thinking I’ll rack up some points for this month. I’m working on cleaning out and organizing my craft room and supplies so my kiddos can have a space of their own in there to scrap along with me.

Last month I started organising the elements in my digital kits. I spent so much time during the month looking through all my kits for certain elements so I thought I’d put some time into setting up folders for each type of element. Example: A folder called “Ric Rac” and then I will go through every kit and if it has ric rac in it I copy the element into the Ric Rac folder. It’s going to take a lot of time to set up but should save me time in the long run.

The benefit of ACDSee is you click a category and it pulls up everything from all the separate folders, rather than having to have multiple copies of each file in different folders.
I've done a good chunk of reorganising my digital files. Over the last two days a total of 11 hours I'm not counting these hours where it's all synchronising to my external drive, after all, it's whirring away in the background and only requires me if there's a problem.
Now I've cleared the decks can think about creating stuff again

I spent about 2 hours last night and this morning getting my recent pictures consolidated, organized and backed up.
I want to spend time this month organizing my cut files in the silhouette program so I can find what I need more easily and maybe use it more. It's something I can work on while I watch tv with DH in the evenings. I am only mildly interested in what he's watching so tagging files would perfect for those times.

Thanks for the wonderful tip Jane! I have no idea how to use ACDSee (or even what it is) so I'm off to Google. I've only done three kits so far, so it's not like I've wasted too much time on it. ETA: Ugh, the cheapest is $60. That's going to have to wait until next month. What else do you use it for Jane? Just trying to work out whether it's worth getting. I mean, that's about 6 digital kits I could buy!

ETA: Ugh, the cheapest is $60. That's going to have to wait until next month. What else do you use it for Jane? Just trying to work out whether it's worth getting. I mean, that's about 6 digital kits I could buy! Ooeerr! I'm so sorry for suggesting it now I've had it so long it costs me half that to upgrade so I had no idea it was quite so expensive. I'd agree it's probably not worth it just to organise stuff, which is all I really use it for. Do you have Adobe Bridge? Now I think that will do the same thing although I've not entirely worked out how, but I could try and learn it so I can tell you. Which would benefit me because it's free with my PS subscription and I wouldn't need a separate program!
An hour or two later.... A little bit of research and a very quick practice and Bridge does the same job. In fact, once I get used to it I think I might prefer it. Here is a tutorial from The Digital Press that I used to get started. There is a keyword list shared that you can download to make a start. I had to right click and Save As to download it, otherwise it just opened a browser window.
Then I followed the instructions to import it and how to start tagging. Guess what I'll be doing every day this month?
A bit later still...
So I've discovered you have to be precise in choosing keywords because not putting in the whole thing means no results. For example I can't type Heart and get anything labelled under Heart CU if I want only commercial use. Maybe I'm doing it wrong...
I am pernickety; I like my personal use items separated from my commercial use. I think I'll use a mixture of methods: collections for the CU stuff so I can easily find it and then keywords to find anything called ribbon, for example.
Can I claim these 3 1/2 hours as organising do you think?

Maybe bonus points for helping me organise too? And now pardon me while I go and download Adobe Bridge...... An hour later.....Jane I love you!! Adobe Bridge seems to be just the ticket! I had it as part of my PS CC subscription but I hadn't bothered to install it until now.

Now I've cleared the decks can think about creating stuff again I use ACDSee for this as well. I keep my kits together by designer. But then tag the items in the kit. I lost my tags when my old hard drive died and now have to retag everything. It's why in September most of my stuff had "A" beginning designer names. If I found something I knew I'd use over and over, I tagged just those items so I could pull them up easily in ACDSee. I've also tried to tag new purchases as I purchased. This month, I've decided to try to tag at least 2 kits a day. If I miss a day, then I try to do more the next day. It saves so much time. I'm almost to the end of the A's (I have 2 more kits left), but I did purchase several new to me kits from the Digital Press Retiring sale at the end of October.

I’m working on cleaning out and organizing my craft room and supplies so my kiddos can have a space of their own in there to scrap along with me. I was deep cleaning dd's bedroom a couple months ago when dh said, why don't you just put her craft supplies in with yours. It led to a complete overhaul of the craft room. I still have a few piles left to go through, but she's actually used the craft work surface more than me at this point. It makes me happy. I'm sure you will love it too.

Well, I miss several posts when I logged on yesterday. The whole Adobe bridge conversation for starters. JaneB , can you put 2 separate categories as PU and CU and then do multiple tags in Adobe bridge? Like tag all your hearts under hearts and then the ones that are CU as CU. Pick both and then get the cu hearts??? You can definitely count those as organizing points. justjac , I had serious reservations about sharing my room painting as we haven't redone that room and it has mixed pieced drywall from shoring up the walls during the house leveled. It took me a long time to share the messy pictures. Linda , you got a lot done in an hour! Way to go! I'm finally on B beginning names for designers on my digital tagging. huzzah

I spent a couple of hours this morning getting some photos ready for printing - which I have now also done. This means when my new album arrives (which I'm hoping will be tomorrow) I can start putting it together.

I just discovered why anyone who doesn't put their layouts away immediately fears the task, it just took me an hour to put away all the pages I made from Sept - now.

I spent a couple of hours this morning finishing off the page kit for my last two Disney album pages, collecting all the rest of my Disney supplies and storing them away in their tub. The tub is now at the top of the book shelf in my scraproom.
While I was at it, I emptied the last container from my crop last month and put everything away, except for the Christmas card making stuff that will be used the weekend after I get back from grandparenting. I have two very large Christmas card making kits, one all in blues & silvers, and the other in reds, greens, and golds (which has completely outgrown its tub and may need to be relocated into something bigger).
I hate organizing. Feels like every hour should be worth WAY more than one point...

I think I’m finally done organizing my craft room. New furniture is all set up, papers and embellishments are sorted and I feel like. It’s less chaotic and I can find things! Now on to putting pages away....well that may got to another month. I have pages from years ago I still need to get in albums and I’m just not motivated yet to do it. I agree that this seems like it should be more than 1 pt per hour since it’s not my favorite things to do!!

Jane I love you!! Adobe Bridge seems to be just the ticket! I had it as part of my PS CC subscription but I hadn't bothered to install it until now. I'm sorry Meg, I meant to come back and answer but I've had an awful three weeks and haven't done anything much since that experiment with Bridge. How are you getting on? Have you got the hang of it yet? JaneB , can you put 2 separate categories as PU and CU and then do multiple tags in Adobe bridge? Like tag all your hearts under hearts and then the ones that are CU as CU. Pick both and then get the cu hearts??? You can definitely count those as organizing points. The same apology to you Lisa, sorry for not answering you sooner. Yes, you could, I think. Main level category=Hearts with sub-categories for Hearts PU and Hearts CU. However, I don't like having to type in keywords to search every time, it's hard work for me. Especially these last three weeks for example, where I could hardly breathe, much less lift my hands to type. I now have a system that works for me: my CU stuff doesn't get keywords. Instead I make Collections and I can drag and drop files to be part of a collection. Some Collection examples are Hearts, Paper Patterns, Labels, Flowers, Gems etc. One click brings up everything I've added to that Collection which makes it easier for me. For my PU stuff so that I don't mix it up I use the keywords. Then I take advantage of Smart Collections, which are like Collections above only you set the criteria for the Collection, e.g. a keyword, or more than one keyword rather than dragging/dropping files into the collection. Smart Collections are quite versatile because you can decide the criteria and have multiple options. To separate them from my CU Collection list, because the names are similar for the category collections and they are in the same window panel, I put an exclamation point at the start of the name. Thus !Alphas, !Papers, !Flowers, and so on. Bridge is taking some getting used to; I can't always sort my folders as I would like. In ACDSee I could have a separate sort for each folder but in Bridge it's a global sort view. It's only my Photos and Scrapbook Pages I like sorted differently, with most recent near the top. That's not what I like for Scrapbook Kits though, that has to be by Type, jpg first then png.
One other plus to Bridge is that if you move folders in Windows Explorer for example it doesn't mess up the database it keeps. ACDSee doesnt like it if you move files around outside the program, which I quite often did.
I'm sticking with Bridge for now; I'm sure I'll have a super system all worked out eventually!
And that's one reason I popped back; to share that once again I've been organising I've done 10 hours on and off over the last two or three days, not forgetting the ever-important backup. I'll probably be doing some more too; I've got stuff I need to move around so I remember to try and use it.
