How cool. My mom was a quilter. All her quilts are hand done; each piece hand sewn as well as the quilting. Did they have quilts like that at the show or is that a lost art and most done on a machine now? So pretty, creative and a whole lot of work! Thanks for sharing.

Oh yes, there are still quilts entered that are entirely handmade. My favorite quilt from the entire show won 1st place in the Handmade category and was one of the ones I got to get up close & personal with. The workmanship was exquisite! Hang on and I'll add some photos. The quilt is called "Flower Rondo" and was made by Chinami Terai of of Abiko, Japan. All that quilting, applique and embroidery was done by hand. I also love the gray velvet ribbon! OMG! How exquisite! I can't imagine the hours and hours and hours that it took to make such a magnificent piece of art.

I think is is quilting on a photo printed on fabric. The photo is very high contrast, and all the texture come from the quilting. It is very effective.

Before I even scroll down to the pics, I just have to tell you how much this never-quilted-in-her-life girl enjoys these posts of yours every year. Off to look at all the pretty, and try not to drool You are most welcome! I thought of you when I was shopping. Hand embroidery is making a big comeback and there was so much of it in the many booths. A few French kits and some amazing hoops by Nurge followed me home! There were also a few hand embroidery classes. I took one from Catherine Redford, which turned out to be an intermediate class but I managed to keep up somewhat. I considered going to the quilt expo in Portland a few months ago, but there wasn’t enough embroidery to make it worth my while to drive down there. Yet Well, I’ve scrolled through each and every photo of yours and am Once again blown away. Amazingly, it was easy to pick my favorite this time. They’re all gorgeous though, the attention to detail is astounding.
