I suggest everyone clicks on the picture. I did it to look for the today picture, because I was not seeing a second picture. BUT guess what, it is below the first picture and you can barely see images on the second picture!!

Oh my gosh. I didn't even realize there was a 2nd photo until I clicked it to enlarge.
My heart just breaks for everyone affected by the fires.

I am so sorry for our CA peas. I don't know what we can do, but we must spend tax money to do it. This is unacceptable as a "new normal".

That's a horrific visual. San Francisco is 165 miles (265 km) SW of Paradise CA. I can't imagine how bad it is in your area, cadoodlebug .

cadoodlebug - can you leave??? I hope so! Time to visit far off relatives with clean air? Our dd and her fiance are in Berkeley with horrible air... we were supposed to go there for Thanksgiving but I can't..I'm reacting to our "moderate" air quality index of 56. (lungs are my Achilles heel.) Trying to get them to come down here....

that photo is off the acatraz website. yesterday, on the scale.. it was 271.. on scale of 1-500.. you couldn't see anything. slightly better today.. only 200.. I have been coughing, all the kids are out of school, almost all events are cancelled.. streets are emptier.. it is horrible. the smoke is pushed by an east wind.. and it settles sinking over the bay.. as there is a west wind preventing the smoke from escaping the bay.. so more and more smoke stacks up and the air gets worse during the day.
rains will come tues/wed... but in the meantime, everyone is home. it is far worse up in chico. sacramento and areas nearer to the fire.

I just watched drone footage of the damage...so devastating and still so many people unaccounted for. It’s absolutely heartbreaking. 😢

Yesterday I went from my place in Sonoma Country to Napa and by the time I got back home my eyes were burning. And we aren’t as bad as San Francisco.
And if we believe the weatherperson we are stuck with this until Wednesday.

It's just terrible. Mother nature is there to remind us how small we really are in this universe.

Here’s another image that compares the air quality. A friend came out to attend a funeral and came with a mask prepared for the air. She said she was surprised it wasn’t a deep woodsy scent that you’d expect from a forest fire, but it’s gritty and acrid. It was interesting because she was much more aware of each each time she went outside than the rest of it. Not to say we don’t notice it, but it’s permeating our homes and there is a certain amount that isn’t quite as strong.

So horribly sad! Long after California has re-built, I'm afraid people will still be affected by all this smoke they are inhaling. My heart goes out to everyone in the state.

I really don't notice a scent at all which has been odd since I'm only about 45 minutes away from the fire. There's thick smoke everywhere but no smell to me. It does, however, make me feel like crap. Headaches are frequent, lethargy, lack of appetite, a tight feeling in the chest. I can't wait for it to go away!

They finally closed the schools here on Friday. The mornings are ok but the afternoons/ evenings are bad. I was in Sacramento today and can’t believe how much smoke there was.
I don’t smell smoke either - just see it.
