A friend linked this on Facebook this morning. It's really interesting to see Walmart's reach across the country. And in states where Walmart is not the largest employer, it's education or healthcare. Fascinating. Does the result for your state surprise you? LINK TO MAP

No I did not. And I work for my state's largest employer!
Though a quick search of Google shows different lists. I would have thought GM would be the largest employer in Michigan. Even with the dwindling jobs. Some lists still have it at top.

I was surprised that Publix wasn't on the list for Florida.

I was expecting Amazon for WA state, I knew Boring would be high on the list, but didn’t think they would be #1.

I’m guessing most of those Walmart jobs are not high paying.

Yes because I work for them. No it really doesn’t surprise me as we don’t have a lot of “large“ corporations/business is our small state.

I wasn’t surprised by Partners Healthcare being the largest employer in Massachusetts. My sister works for them and they have taken over a lot of major hospitals.
ETA: This confirms my statement that if I were looking for a new career I’d try to find one in health care or higher education.

I was more surprised by the number of total people. The number from my state was a little over 10,000, and I noticed another state was a 171,000! I also saw Wyoming was 4000 something. The logistical part of how many people live in each state always fascinates me.

My province, but yes - Loblaw's (they are also the largest in Canada). They're a grocery chain with multiple divisions (discount grocers, Canada's largest pharmacy chain, a clothing brand, and a financial institution). That doesn't include the other subsidiaries of their parent co.

With 57,600 Walmart employees in my state, that means there is one Walmart employee for every 222.2222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222 people in the state.
I believe it. During my infrequent forays into that joint, it feels like 222.2 people are usually lined up to be checked out by one cashier.

I’m surprised they’re listing state university systems as “private.” I always thought that was considered public sector employment. Anybody know?

I thought it would be the state government, but am not that surprised it’s Providence Healthcare.

Not really surprised by Boeing. Many offices all around the state just not the Seattle area.

I’m not really surprised that in MN it’s Mayo Clinic, but I would have guessed 3M had more than 10K employees here.

Our airport, Denver International employees 35,000 people! That's crazy.
I thought the State itself would be the largest employer.. but I can't seem to find that stat.
It didn't say private or public that I could see...
