I love all holiday lights, but the LED are hard to get used to. I use old fashioned C-7's and C-9's which are available in fewer colors each year and get really hot, but that's what makes me happiest.
I would have LED over having nothing, but otherwise, no.

I would have LED over having nothing, but otherwise, no. I'm with you on those C7s and C9s. That's what we had when I was little, so I'm very nostalgic for them. Unfortunately they get too hot for me to feel like they're safe -- I like to leave the lights on from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. I don't mind the LEDs -- I love all Christmas lights. But by the time I get to replacing the regular strands I have (I must have 50 strands floating around here), I bet the LEDs will look exactly like them. All the incandescent bulbs in my house were replaced with LEDs (through the energy company) this summer, and I can't tell the difference in the lighting. It's very warm and looks great.

I'd be curious to know if there's ANYone who actually prefers them? I despise them. They look tawdry and cheap -- like neon lights in an old bar. My DH and I were talking about them the other day, and I said that they look like bug zapper lights. I believe that falls under "tawdry and cheap" haha! I'm a funny one, because I don't like the cold blue lights but I also don't like the warm yellow lights. I want neutral light.

The warmer ones they have now are ok. I prefer the old warm ones, but then again it sucks replacing every string every year because they're cheap shit made in China. At least you get a little longer out of the LED ones.
I have a Martha Stewart pre-lit LED tree and the lights are actually quite nice even though they're not incandescent. And I like that they can cycle from white to colored if I want them to.

Love the C 7 and C 9. Although I don’t think I’ve ever bought them as an adult. One of my aunts growing up had bubble lights ! Those things were magical.

They are terrible!
Too bright and blinding and pretty much guaranteed to kick off a skull crushing migraine. I’m skipping the tree lighting in town because so many of the decorations have LED’s and I can’t take it.

I hate LED's in general! My dh loves them and since our house is on the market, we had to replace all of our bulbs with the bright white LED's. Blech! So blinding and cold!

Yes! I hate them. My Christmas colors are blue, white and silver. So I while I managed to find white lights that are a reasonable copy of the old ones, I hate the blue lights on my tree now. It’s gaudy and not cozy or flattering at all, and Spongemom nailed it with the neon bar lights comparison. They also photograph badly. I miss the look of my old lights.

I love them for outdoors, but I wouldn't want them for my tree.

I hate them with a passion!! I bought a few boxes not realizing what I had done. Luckily I plugged one box in before unwinding the whole mess. EWWW...that gross blue light and the lights had a jiggle to them. I'm not sure how to explain that...it wasn't like good solid light it was jiggly. Any hoops, they went right back to the store for a full refund. They have a refresh rate slow enough that you can see it. I hate photographing them at weddings. The camera is faster than the lights most of the time and that makes them look like they are out. They give me a headache if I'm around them a lot. My sister too. Ahh, thank you for confirming my arguement with my husband that they photograph terribly. I will point out that a real photographer found them difficult too. 😂🥰 Are there any tips for making them look at least half way decent?

There’s a house in my neighborhood COVERED in them. Like every inch of their house, the trees, bushes, fence. They even lined the driveway in them. So they may be that one person in the world that likes them. Only if you live in my neighborhood. WHY? Why oh why? I cannot stand them. On a side note, every time I think something, within 24 hours some Pea has posted about it. Coincidence? I wonder!Ha ha ha ha! You have been fully assimilated into the 2Peas Borg! I hate the LED lights too and have complained about them for years. When we moved here six years ago, DH wanted to get lights to put on the house. He likes the big C9 ones. He bought a bunch of boxes of what he *thought* were the C9s only to get home to discover they were crappy LEDs with C9 shaped COVERS over them. This was after I had already put up a crap ton of garland with the old style twinkle lights wound into it—like 8-9 eight foot garlands—onto the porch, ugh. The color of the lights didn’t match and it looked horrible. Since everything was already up and it was winter and cold, we left it like that for the season. In the spring the gutters were clogged so DH went up to clear them. In the process a part of the strand came loose and hit the concrete front steps. The light covers on that part of the strand shattered. Turned out they were GLASS. The lights themselves were fine, but the strand looked goofy with a fourth of the covers gone. Secretly I was happy inside because that meant we wouldn’t be leaving them up for another season of mismatched awfulness. We just got new lights again this year. They are LED too but they’re the warmer ones. They aren’t awful. They switch between warm white and multicolored which is kind of neat, even though I’m not a huge fan of the “colors” (basic blue, red, green and probably yellow). I like the old kind that have pink and purple mixed in too. That’s what I have on my tree, the old incandescent kind and a couple strings of retro 1960’s reproduction lights with the fancy reflector covers. I loved those things when I was a kid!

I’ve never really thought about it too much until this week. Last year I bought 3 boxes of warm white led lights which are bright but ok. This year I bought a pre lit tree from a friend. The few lights it has on it are s nice warm golden yellow, when I added 500 extra led lights, there was really a blinding difference. I’m not going to change them though as I spent quite a lot of money on them without realising how bright they were.

One of my aunts growing up had bubble lights ! Those things were magical. I still use bubble lights. You can get them at Hobby Lobby and I think Tru Value and some other places. I gave my son a box this year for their first tree.

Me! I hate them. Refuse to use them inside my house. LED are NOT the same, no matter what color or warm or whatever you get. Temple Square in Salt Lake City switched to LED lights a few years ago and it totally ruined the whole thing for me.

HATE THEM!!!
I order bulbs for our C7 strands by the case from a lighting company so that I never have to succumb to LED lights! Lol

mom26 I guess you and I are greatly in the minority here! I LOVE LED lights. My tree is blue, silver, white and glass, and the bright LEDs look wonderful on it! We use LEDs for our regular lighting in the house as well.

The blue ones are the worst! I swear they are like lasers boring into the back of my skull. Sometimes I feel like I can almost HEAR them.
