I give a bonus in the amount of one service to our housekeeper, my hairdresser and my nail tech at Christmas.
I tip them all with each service as well. They each provide an excellent service at below-market price, so I tip to show my appreciation of that.

If your facilities manager keeps everything ship shape without anyone asking and responds quickly if something arises tip him/her well. Good facilities managers are not a dime a dozen and should be appreciated.

Wow! I've had my cleaning lady for 20 years and have NEVER tipped her. She charges more than other cleaning people in my area and it is her own business. I do pay her extra if I ask her to do extra things, such as bleach my basement floor every time it leaks or help clean a shelf in the garage etc. I didn't even think that should be a thing. I pay $120 a week, just in case you were curious.

Is the building manager someone that co-ordinates trades and service professionals to come in or is he an onsite handyman? Our condo facility manager doesn't live on-site, arranges service people as needed and it never occurred to us to tip for the job he is hired to do. Is there any guidance/guidelines from your condo board? Is he getting a tip/end of the year bonus through them? I only tip my hairdresser if I see her in December and that is just the regular amount. A few years ago I was listening to a radio show where they were asking who should get tips and a dental hygienist called in complaining that they were always forgotten at Christmas!

I pay our cleaning woman one extra visit for Xmas plus a gift card to a restaurant. I do this because i know she prefers the money but I like to do something for her that she might not do herself. One particularly busy year in our home when she came twice per week we did cash, g/c to restaurant and g/c for massage. We now have a different woman coming and this is her second Xmas with us. I don’t tip weekly. I do have her come sometimes if I I have a dinner party to do the dishes / help with serving and I tip her those times, but that’s maybe once every other month.
Building manager, id do chocolates, Starbucks g/c or do some homemade baking.

Everyone's replies have been helpful and it's always interesting to read other people's views. Up until now, I've never had help at home or a gardener, pool boy etc.....so this is new to me. I like the idea of considering it as a bonus rather than as a tip. It's also interesting to read about those who tip their hairdresser at the end of the year. I see mine every 5 weeks for color, and she also cuts every 10 weeks, and tip 20% (high end salon) every time. I'm seeing her this coming week and other than maybe throwing in an extra $10-$20 this visit, I don't do anything additional for her. Oops. Way back when, I'd leave box of Frangos for the mail carrier and the UPS driver. Now it's seems like a different person each time I see them (which is rarely). It's been years since I've left anything.

I don't know the tipping situation with the HOA for the facility manager, but I'll ask. The more I think about it, the more I think what I do should be along the lines of a small token gift, not a tip. So the idea someone gave about a lunch out is probably the way I'll go. The dental hygienist thing.....sheesh.

it never occurred to me to tip at every visit. I thought end of the year was sufficient. Yikes. Ladies, have I committed a major faux pas over this past year?!? I think it can be either/or (although I'm sure "both" would be a welcome option, I don't know many people who do it!). DH tips the garage guys every time he takes the car out (many people don't). He doesn't do holiday tips, despite the careful card sent by the garage, listing all the guys' names. For our building super, we tried to tip him in a certain situation for going above and beyond, but he said, "Please don't. You take care of me at Christmas; that's enough." So we tip the garage guys per-service but not holiday. The super gets holiday but not per-service. I think giving the housekeeper one visit's pay as a bonus is great.

I'm really surprised no one tips the housekeeper. I may be a bit out of line, or reaching, but if you have enough for a house keeper you have enough for a tip? I don't have one at the moment, but when I worked as one I only got tips at the end of the summer or end of the year. ( I was in College and worked when I was getting ready for grad school) I have hired people to clean for me periodically and it depends on how their business is set up. I had a woman who worked for me for 2 years. She did all sorts of things I didn't ask her too, so I always tipped her. As she kept the house both clean and organized and I really appreciated it. When she quit, she had back issues and just couldn't do it anymore, I tipped her a month's salary. Next I had a service, and if the owner came I did not tip, if she sent someone else I did, but it was a smaller tip. Not sure if that is correct.. but that's how I dealt with it.
