We also were not allowed to watch Three's Company. We couldn't watch All in the Family either. Those are the only 2 I remember. I would watch Three's Company during the summer days when my mom wasn't home and then change the channel when she came home-to the news of course. Oh-we also weren't allowed to watch Scooby Doo for some reason. No idea why. (We also weren't allowed to watch The Jeffersons)
I do remember all the great shows we were able to watch-Miami Vice, Fantasy Island, Love Boat, Facts of Life, Eight is Enough, I love Sydney, and all the king kong/godzilla movies that were in black and white and were in Japanese. lol

The Three Stooges. I guess my parents were a little out of touch.

Speaking of sneaking to watch TV. My Mom and Dad had a TV in their bedroom, I didn't. Our bedrooms were side by side and their door was angled in such a way that I could stand in the little space between the doorways and not be seen by them. I don't know how many hours I stood just outside their doorway, hidden by the doorframe and watched their TV. This was after they put me to bed. IF they ever knew I was there, they never mentioned it to me. Of course, I only did this when I wasn't hiding under the covers with a flashlight reading a book

There was only one TV show my parents wouldn't allow me to watch - "Soap" - because of all the adult themes. It was very racy for its time...I remember lots of people protesting and trying to get it off the air.

I can’t remember there being any shows that I wasn’t allowed to watch, but then again my bedtime was 8:30pm up until maybe Year 7 and all the “adult” shows were on after 8:30pm. I remember being shocked that my BFF was allowed to stay up as late as she wanted, and she was allowed to watch ‘Number 96’ and ‘The Box’ even in primary school. Other Aussies around my age will remember those 2 shows, they were very risqué for their time. The first time nudity was allowed on TV. I am surprised that I was allowed to watch ‘Prisoner’ when I was in grade 6. ‘Prisoner’ was the original version of ‘Wentworth’ and I wouldn’t have let my daughter watch it at that age. Funny story, there was a teacher at my high school who still lived with his mum and he told us that he wasn’t allowed to watch ‘Prisoner’!! 😂 He was in his 40s for crying out loud! Same! I remember watching Number 96 from the hallway when I was a kid LOL. The episode where the building burnt down gave me nightmares but I couldn't tell my Mum why because I wasn't supposed to be watching it.
Reading all the people that couldn't watch something as benign as Three's Company, their parents would have had heart failure at 96 and The Box! It still surprises me now what they got away with in those shows.
I loved Prisoner too. LOL at your teacher!

The Simpsons The Flintstones Roseanne (although I know I watched it so maybe my mom changed her mind at some point) because the kids were snotty to their parents. Probably Three's Company The Flintstones??? Do you know the reason for this one? ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

The only time I could watch tv that I was in control of was after school, and that was a lot of reruns that were old even then ,
I was beyond forbidden to watch petticoat junction. That show was beyond filthy???
BUT my brother could watch wild Wild West??? My mother thought 3 woman throwing their pettycoats over the side of a water tank was filthy, but didn’t say anything about the suggestions of sex/ 3-way sex?

Who is old enough to remember Love American Style? We could not watch that. Too risque in its time. I remember that show, I loved it. I'm pretty sure it aired on Friday or Saturday night because I recall watching it while babysitting and the kids were normally in bed by the time it came on! Same with Love Boat and Fantasy Island.

Three’s Company because of the “living in sin” part. And because Dad thought the cast was too stupid to watch.
All in the Family, Maude, The Jefferson, and Good Times because Mom and Dad didn’t want to talk about sensitive social issues LOL. And because they were loud. Dad didn’t like all the yelling.
Soap—again, too many sensitive topics to be discussed.
Batman—long story for why Dad thought it was inappropriate.

I grew up without tv, and several of these shows I only know from hearing my friends talk about them or I would see an episode at their house. I can't imagine my parents telling us any show was forbidden though. I still don't have broadcast tv, and got Netflix a couple of years ago. The only show I would have banned from ds is Calliou, I couldn't stand that whiny kid.

I don’t think much was prohibited, but I do think me watching Love Boat was not exactly encouraged, but frankly that may have been more on me. I was embarrassed to watch certain stuff with my mom. I remember listening to Pat Benetar’s “ Hell is for Children” really quietly so my mom didn’t hear.
I do know I wasn’t allowed to see Star Wars though. I remember crying in the drive way while my mom drove off with my brother and cousin. I was old enough to see Empire Strikes Back when that came out though. I was so excited.

Not a show, but I was not allowed to watch Christmas Vacation as a kid. It drove me bonkers because every year I could hear my parents in the living room laughing their asses off at it.

The Simpsons
I did know several kids growing up that couldn’t watch the Smurfs because of magic. They were from pretty strict Christian households.

Glad to hear I am not alone in my dislike of Elmo. I can.not.stand that whiny voice of his. I remember all the kids wanting that Tickle Me Elmo doll and I flat out refused to buy it.

No TV shows that I can remember, but I specifically remember not being allowed to go see “Lost Boys” in the theater. I had the biggest crush on Corey Haim and was so upset ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Ivm7lm0DayrhoRpwvCeH.jpg) They tried to keep me away from scary movies at first, but I was a voracious reader and didn’t have access to many books except their library. Stephen King was my favorite author starting as a young tween so they kind of gave up on that.

Nothing was forbidden in my house. My mom and stepdad famously told their friends that they paid for hbo so they wouldn't have to give me a birds and the bees talk. 😂

Game shows? My mom thought it encouraged gambling. 🤷♀️ Hmmm, okay I never would have thought of that. Mostly I think they just encouraged yelling at the TV in my house

My mom had a bunch of crazy rules... even for Mormons. There was a stretch of time when my sisters and I weren’t allowed to wear pants with zipper-flies because she thought it was a form of cross-dressing or something?

My parents did not censor our tv viewing. We could watch whatever as long as my mom didn’t have something she wanted to watch. We only had one tv and she had priority over us. Lol! mine, either. from what I remember, anyway, I think the stuff I "couldn't" watch was more because of the time of night than the content. I don't remember watching SNL, but it was on later than I was allowed to stay up. I grew up in the 70s-80s, and I remember watching all those shows- Love Boat, Three's Company, Happy Days, Fantasy Island, etc. I do remember that I didn't like All in the Family, because Archie was just mean (at least that's what I thought, I guess- I just didn't like his personality, I guess... lol), but I remember watching Facts of Life, Different Strokes, Dallas, Knots Landing, etc. I don't think I 'got' the humor in Soap, though. Maybe part of being able to watch those shows was because for a long time, we only had one television and it was downstairs in the basement? When I would be watching TV, my parents were upstairs on the main floor of the house. I even remember watching 'Are You Being Served' and Monty Python's Flying Circus on PBS, although I didn't get a lot of the jokes in those, either. I saw Star Wars when it first came out (I was 9; maybe my brother took me?), and when I was 10 or so, I remember going to a friend's birthday party (a friend who was a boy), and we all got to go see Bladerunner, which was rated R... so... I think we got a friend's mom to get us into the theater to see Porky's when we were about 12, too. And I really don't get the idea of Three's Company being 'living in sin' because they truly were platonic friends- unless there was bed-hopping going on between the three of them that I didn't comprehend? and if so, I was REALLY clueless about it, lol.
