It was the family and MULTIPLE eyewitnesses. Because it was chaotic, a crime scene, a child was shot, etc. The white man in the red truck WAS at the scene and sped away after the shooting, probably because duh, there was a shooting and he wanted to escape.
Here is the explanation from Shaun King who gave the police the accurate tip about the real shooters:

Here is the explanation from Shaun King who gave the police the accurate tip about the real shooters: It is amazing that they got such a quick solve, isn’t it? I know it won’t bring back Jazmin but I hope knowing that their killers will be prosecuted brings the family some peace. I also hope they get the harshest sentence applicable. It is also amazing that all the eyewitness had the same story in the first place. It is understandable why they thought it was the man in the red truck, but as eye witnesses are notoriously unreliable it is also understandable why the police believed he was the shooter since so many had the same story. I remember when they had a shooting here people were all over the place on their descriptions. Two or 3 people claimed the man was wearing a skull face mask, several said he just had a ski face mask on. Turned out he never had any mask at all. It is unreal what people see and remember during a crime. It is wonderful that one person was able to bring the truth to light.

The entire situation is just heartbreaking. Doesn't matter what color the shooter was, or the victim. A child is dead. Nothing will bring her back so that she might live up to her potential in life. Nothing will ease the suffering of her family. I wish we lived in a world where color was the least relevant part of a discussion. Maybe one day we will.

I'm glad they found the guys who did it so fast. So important that the witness called in a tip about it not being the guy in the red truck, because that's who everybody was looking for. And that the witness was taken seriously and not blown off.
And that the guy in the red truck was able to get out of there and lay low and avoid both the cops and the vigilantes who were out looking for him.
And how traumatizing for the witnesses.
Unfortunately there are still Facebook Detectives going on about conspiracies and spreading all kinds of wild accusations and rumors. I have a friend who is buying into that nonsense and getting sucked into the drama.

There were other witnesses who gave the same info. Could have been the last person they saw or the man driving A truck. Witnessing an event like this is extremely traumatic. Not one of them was knowingly giving false info.

ah gotcha. i hadn't seen that the same info was given by many witnesses. and yes, eyewitness info is notoriously bad.
i am surprised that a real witness that knew something came forward.

Just from reading the thread title I knew a black person had been killed by a white person for no reason. Oops!

I read something once that after a crime many people can't ID the perk. It just all happens so fast and you're in shock, that you can't even remember what color shirt the person was wearing. If everyone is ducking when the gunshots are happening, then when they rise up, they only see the second car on the scene because the first had time to speed away while people were too scared to look around. www.cnn.com/2019/01/07/us/texas-jazmine-barnes-shooting-investigation/index.html

I'm just sick and tried of all this shooting crap. I live in a suburb of Chicago There are shootings on expressways, side streets, public spaces I could
go on and on. People say it's the lack of gun control but Chicago is one of the toughest in the country yet it still happens.
I is beyond me how ANYONE can pull along side and shoot ANYONE Gang or not. My Dad was a LEO and taught other LEOS how to investigate these types of scenes. Fascinating.
I'm glad so many people stepped up to give the Police all the information they had. Accurate or not. Here so often people see a crime they now who did it yet nothing is said. I admire each of them for the ability to step up and make a difference. God bless them, Jazmine, and the Barnes family.

False ID's are one of the primary reasons so many innocent people are in prison.

Looks like Shawn King, the activist who got involved in the case, instigated some serious trouble. During the process of soliciting tips and raising reward money he publicly identified and outed a man who looked like the police sketch of the "white man with blue eyes" suspected of committing the crime. He has since deleted his Twitter post outing the man, but it has been seen, screenshotted, and shared by potentially millions of people.
Some of those people then took it upon themselves to stalk down this man's family and now there have been calls, emails, and social media messages harrassing, and threatening them. Including a veiled threat stating that women and children in his family would be raped, tortured, and murdered.
Even though the man in the police sketch was cleared and identified as a witness, not a suspect, and the real suspects have been found and arrested, there is a lot of lore and conspiracy theories running through social media and internet investigation communities claiming that there is "more to the story" and the official reports are fake news.
What a clusterfuck. And I have a friend who is buying into the conspiracy theories.
