Please explain why a Fob for the car is superior to a key.
I have a Ford product and have a key pad on the door, so carrying a key is not necessary to get into car. Sometimes I intentionally lock the key in the car (so I don't have anything in my pocket) but I can get back in and drive away.
With Fob--one has to have it to open door and drive away.
So, don't understand why fob makes things better.
My sister has a Ford product with Fob. She left Fob on car seat at car wash. After X minutes the car automatically locked her out. Key pad on door would not work 'cause fob was inside. She ended up having to borrow a phone to call fire dept to get inside car. Right now she is not loving her fob situation.

I don’t know about your sister’s car, but I cannot lock the doors if my key fob is inside. Of course if someone is inside the car, they can lock the doors, but they can also unlock it since they are inside. So it is not a problem at the car wash for me. I don’t have a keypad on my door either. I love not having to use a key. I can leave my keys in my purse the whole time. The only problem is when I get home I have to search for my house keys. Lol.
ETA that my car will relock if I don’t open the door within a certain time frame, but that still won’t lock my keys in the car.

My vehicle won’t lock with the fob in it. Learned this the hard way when we were on a trip out of town and had purposefully packed our second fob. It was buried in luggage under tons of stuff in the back of the SUV with a bike mounted on the back. Wanted to go shopping, but was so paranoid about our things being stolen. And it took forever to figure out why the darn doors wouldn’t lock! Not with the fob, not with the door locks.
One thing I do like about the fob is that it is super easy to detach the rest of our keys for valet parking, that frequently comes in handy.
I don’t like that I don’t have to remove the keys to turn off the car. There was at least 3 times I left the car running while I was shopping when we first got it. Also, and I will admit this more more me than the fob, I realized forgot something in the house right after pulling out of the driveway so pulled in, grabbed my house keys on the fob, and jumped out to run into the house. Without turning the car off or putting it in park. If our trash can wasn’t there the vehicle would have ended up in the garage via the garage door and support. With a regular key I would have been forced to turn off the car, which in turn would have made me put it in park.
Also like that the passenger can access/lock the glove compartment without having to stop the car. This especially come ins handy for our electronics while pulling up to valet parking and not having to make them wait on us.

My car will not lock with the fob inside. I do not have a key pad. I don't think it's superior to a key, but I didn't get a choice when I bought my new car. The car I just finally got rid of after 11 years had a key, the kind with a fob to unlock/panic. I do like that I never forgot about my keys that way. Now I always have them in my purse and sometimes forget to grab them if I'm leaving without my purse.

My Charger will not lock, nor will the trunk close, if there is not a key on the outside of the car. Therefore, I cannot lock myself out.
I do not have to put a key into my car to start it, it's got a push button. That means that my keys can stay in my bag and I don't have to find them.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my fob! I hate when I have to drive the Sequoia that requires a key to open and start it. I have to have my keys in my hand. It's just annoying.
Yes, TOTAL first world issue in my life.

My fob works at 50% now. It’s not the battery so I think it’s just old. There are only so many times you can use a fob before it will die. The car is a 2006 and is now 14 years old. I think I just need to switch it out with the other fob. The key doesn’t work. The alarm goes off every time I have tried to use it.

I have never owned a car with a key fob. But, I have an intense hatred of the word "fob". Like nails on a chalkboard to me.
That is all.

There are key fobs that just unlock the doors, open the back hatch, and start the car. And there are fobs that replace the key and can do all those things.
I've had both. The fob is more hands free as you are walking up, for popping open your back hatch as you walk up or unlocking the doors as your passengers are getting there. A lazy luxury.
The key fob replacement is nice because I never take the "key" out of my purse. I can start my car without getting it out. I can lock and unlock with pressing the door handle. I only get out my fob when I want to remote start my car and heat it up, I never have to dig around for my keys. I have a Lincoln that has the keypad on the outside and have never used it, I just lock or unlock with grabbing the door handle. I can't leave my key fob in the car and lock it.
I don't think it's better or worse it's just something you get used to.

I leave my fob in my purse as I can lock and unlock the doors and start the car without having to touch it. If I am with dh, I can leave my purse in the car, with the fob, and dh fob will still lock the car.
My last car had the fob to unlock and such, but still had a key to start. While at the beach, I saved a toddler who had gotten caught in the undertow and had my keys in my pocket. My fob never worked again, but I could still use the key to unlock. I went to see about getting a new fob and they wanted $475.00 for a new one. I missed my fob after that and was glad to get my new car with a working fob.

My old car did that if the alarm was set and then the vehicle was opened without turning the alarm off. That’s actually how I discovered it even had an alarm. Someone was walking me to my car after class and I was putting my supplies in the back and this annoying alarm in the parking lot wouldn’t stop. They were staring at me as I stood there talking and complained and they said “your alarm is going off” and I replied “I don’t have an alarm.” Apparently I did.

I've got a Durango and I wasn't sure i'd be loving the whole push start concept, but omg I LOVE IT! I've been trying to convince dh that we need to go keyless combination on the house so that I could be the ultimate in laziness and not ever have to dig out my keys. Not sure about all makes, but Dodges keyless allows you to not need your key out. As long as the key is on you, touching the door handle unlocks the vehicle. There's a button to touch on the outside handle that locks it the vehicle. I really like this feature.

I love just having the fob in my bag and never having to pull it out. When I touch the door handle, the door unlocks. When I press the start button, the seat slides to my specifications and the engine starts up. When I exit the car, I just touch the dimple to make the car lock.
Then I get home and have to dig my keys out to get in the house. Bummer. I really should have a keypad installed on the door at home. Or, better yet, get a butler!

Oh, something else to keep in mind. When you pick your husband up from work to take him to lunch, make sure and keep the keys on you. It’s very romantic if he wants to unlock and open the car door for you. But then you might drop him back off at work and drive away, leaving the fob with him. And that’s fine initially, because the car won’t stop driving. But once you turn off the car, you’re done.

The key fob and the working Bluetooth are my two favorite things about the new (to me) Kia I got last summer. I like to carry a big purse, and hated always having to search for my keys. Now I just walk up and press the button on the handle.
My car also won't lock with the fob inside. That sounds like a design flaw in your car.

My SO was driving my car because I had to pick up something at a store and I knew parking would be a problem. He dropped me off and went off to find a parking spot or drive around until I came back out. As soon as he drove off I remembered I had the key fob! Thankfully the car engine didn’t turn off. Lol!

My car fob is a bracelet, similar to a fitbit. Nothing to carry. I love it. Just walk up and it unlocks. The older I get, the happier I am to not need a key. My brain is shot, I'd never find them! LOL

I did the same thing with my KEY a couple of summers ago (even posted about it here). Left it on my seat while I ran in to get my lunchbox I forgot and the car locked while I was inside. My new car has a fob, and like others have said, my car will not lock with the fob inside.

I have a key for my 2003 Golf. I have a system and I'm very happy with it. I've never locked myself in or out, never had a problem with it.
DH's new car has a fob but the range is so short that he can unlock the passenger door for me, walk round the front of the car to get to the driver's door, and the dratted thing locks. If I move, the alarm goes off with me inside it. So rather than doing that, he doesn't unlock it at all and makes me stand by my door like a lemon in the rain and wind while he faffs around in the boot. I don't like fobs, and when my beloved car finally needs replacing, I'm going to need a lot of adjusting.

Is your sister’s fob an older style?
My fob won’t lock the car if the fob is inside. I can unlock doors or open trunk if it’s in my purse. I can lock doors if it’s in my purse. I never have to take it out. Not even to start the car. If she enters my car on his fob the seat automatically goes to his settings and the radio to his settings. If I enter the driving side on my fob the settings switch to mine. It’s far easier than a key for us.

Oh yeah....my fob stays in zipped compartment of my purse at all times. I never take it out, so I never lose it. My brother bought me a “tile” for Christmas because I used to always lose my key. But honestly, I don’t need it now. I would have to lose my purse to lose my car key.

I have the fob and love it! I cannot get locked out because the car will detect the fob is inside and starts beeping.
The only downside is since you don’t need to get the key out of your purse, you tend to forget to grab it after you have your hands full of grocery bags and need your key ring to get inside you your house lol.
But truthfully, I love it! My mom has one and does not like it since she tends to leave it in the car and her car doesn’t beep when it’s left in there. Could be a setting you can change though.

This is what I have and it won't lock with fob inside or just right by the open door as I try to lock it by the inside lock button. My only thing is the remote start for my car. I can't just lock the doors, I have to use the fob so the alarm is on in order to use the remote start through the app on my phone. The fob itself does not have a way to remote start my vehicle. This is my first push start car and I am still getting used to not having to use a key... OP: My sister has a Ford also, she has been locked out of her car twice now. It is not supposed to lock with fob inside, but it does.

My van is 14 yrs, old and my husband's car is 9. We still have keys which I love! I am not ready for all these fancy new things, so I hope our cars last even longer! My parents van must have a fob because it wasn't a key and I couldn't even figure out how to start their car!

I can't lock my car if my FOB is on the inside.
This is the first car I have had that has a FOB.. I LOVE it.. I never have to dig out my FOB.. it stays in my purse. I never lose it. I never have to touch it (except for rare instances if I just need to run to my car and get something). I don't have to mess with inserting a key into anything.. just push a button and go. I hope to never go back to a key again.
