I just saw that Gymboree is to declare bankruptcy this week. All of our Virginia stores are closing. I'm so sad to see a store close, even though I haven't shopped there since DD entered middle school. Both kids wore a lot of Gymbo, but DD especially wore it a lot--probably 50% of the time. I had a whole system down with Gymbucks, coupons, Family and Friends discounts, etc. DH says it's my fault--that they couldn't last after I stopped buying there.

This makes me sad, too. I was the same way - their clothes came mostly from Gymbo. My kids are 14 and 17 now, so it's been a while. I even worked at Gymboree for a while. Are all their stores closing? Restructuring? I'll Google.

I never shopped there, but bought a lot of their clothes next to new on consignment. They held up really well and were great quality. I was almost always able to resell them for what I paid after DD outgrew them.

Oh this makes me sad. My almost 13 yr-old granddaughter wore their clothes when she was younger. Such cute things and nice quality too.

Awww now I never bought that much but always loved their clothes.. If I did buy something it was always on clearance. MIL would buy my kiddos one outfit a year from there. I always thought they were just a bit to pricey for me.. and even with all the incentives I couldn't really make that work since I didn't buy much to begin with. My sister did though... she rocked the deals.

Aw, man! We left Gymboree sizes a long time ago, but, they were a staple for all my kids. I was just looking at a photo of my daughter yesterday when she was about 2. She was soooo cute, and dressed all in Gymboree from shoes to hair bow!
Wishing them the best. They provided some great quality clothes that we were able to pass down several times over.

Love Gymboree. Bought on clearance and lots for sale on ebay. Great quality. Still looked new after many washes.

I saw this on the news, makes me sad. My kids are 19, 17 & 15 now but back in the day, most of their clothes came from Gymboree. Especially my dd-dressed head to toe. I really loved their baby blankets-so soft & great for swaddling.

Where are people buying kids clothes these days? Our Crazy 8 and Children's Place closed a few years ago. Carter's has limited size ranges, focusing on babies it seems. I would still be shopping at Crazy 8 for holidays and pictures if there was one close by. My younger two wear athletic clothes most of the time now.

I’m not surprised by this. Their new revamped lines were awful. Think baby gap, but worse. The people shopping at Gymboree are not there for a toddler dressed in boring neutrals. And the quality went waaay down. If I’m going to buy cheaply made clothes I’ll get them at Old Navy or somewhere else for half the price and in bright colors.

Oh wow. I didn't buy much for dd because it was out of my price range and I didn't have the time to scout out and figure out the deals. But I did buy a few things and loved them.

My kids, 24,24 and 28 years old, wore coordinating Gymboree outfits. I haven't shopped there in a long time but Gymboree was my favorite when my kids were little.

My kids are 26 and 29 now, they both wore a lot of Gymboree clothes back in the day.
Last year I was so disappointed when I went to a Gymboree store to buy some outfits for my first Grandson. I walked out with nothing. I could get that type of clothing at Old Navy or Baby Gap.

My daughter just turned 5 and we almost never shopped there. The quality was not in line with the price, in my opinion.
What I do is buy a few nice items each season from Hannah Andersson, which is expensive but excellent quality. It doesn't fade, doesn't hold stains, doesn't unravel in the wash, etc.
But the bulk of my daughter's clothes is just from Walmart. Quality wise, it's stuff that will probably only look good for a season, but she grows so fast that that is all I really need for most things. I can happily donate it at the end of the season vs. dealing with Facebook sale groups or consignment, trying to recoup some of my money.

I loved Gymboree for my 2 boys (now 14 & 12.) Their clothes held up so well. I was able to pass all older DS’s things to younger DS and then on to others.

The store I shopped at all the time closed a year ago and I walked in to say goodbye.

I was a store manager for 8 years. I LOVED my store.... I LOVED my job!!! They eventually made mistakes with trying to change up the clothing. They knew within the first month they made a mistake, but it took 11 months to get out of that style change. I remember a large meeting in our area with corporate and they were shocked how our managers stuck with the company, as it was a very negative time. They gave us stock options (yes, they were pitiful, but they did well in the end as a thank you for our service. My 14 year old was head to toe Gymboree. It held up so well that my 6 year olds are able to wear it! I will miss the store immensely!

Gymboree used to have such well made clothing. Haven't been in there in several years, but I was sorry to hear that they're closing their doors.

Loved shopping there for my kids. I was very sad when they outgrew the sizes and styles. I still have some of the cuter outfits packed away in the hope that grandkids will wear them one day!

I only bought the cute matching stuff there, when they had it. It always seem that they only had fleece outfits in our store. I wasn’t going to pay $$$ for fleece.

Hoochie looking and so inappropriate for a child, with no way to wash it without it getting matted and nasty. I didn’t buy much for DD then, but I remember buying elastic waist pants for DS there. It was worth the money, as his jeans didn’t stay up and you can’t potty train a kid wearing a belt! It was waaaayyy too much for a 3 year old to undo himself. Then they started carrying knit knit dresses like Hanna Anderson and dd lived in those dresses for years. With matching socks, tights, hair accessories, little purses, bracelets, shoes, coats, ... we had several outfits where I’d buy a skort and pants, a long sleeved tee and a short sleeved tee, a sweater and tights and mix and match them to the weather. I would sell sets on eBay for more than I paid for them AFTER DD had worn things for a year or two. She’s very into clothes and styles now and we joke that she got her start with Gymboree.

I am disappointed to hear Gymboree is closing. I don't shop there exclusively but both of my boys wore Gymboree, starting at a very young age. I just purchased my youngest son (age 9) and outfit from Gymboree for Christmas and he loves it. My mom gave him ski lessons for Christmas and I found a Gymboree shirt with mountains on it that says "the mountains are calling". We live in FL but my son loves snow! After he opened his gift he declared it his favorite shirt.

I started with the company February 1997. So yes, early 2000-2002 is when it effected the merchandise. It was a solid year and a half before they fixed it. I will say that other than that time frame the merchandise was top notch quality. As I said my little boys are now able to wear my oldest clothing and it has been years. It was easily my favorite job....:my husband always said no one goes to work this happy. I did have my son right around the time that Gymbucks were going insane. It went from a 2 time a year event to an every month event and it was being abused left and right. That would have been my only time to dislike Gymboree!

Noooooooo! Mine are 17 and 20 and I have such fond memories of their matching Gymboree outfits. They were hand me downs between the 2, on to 3 other cousins, and from there to yet others, they held up so beautifully. And DD said without Gymboree her daughters will be a mess because she is a lesbian with no fashion sense She is not wrong....

I think target has really cute clothes for little kids and older girls, but there is really a lacking selection for boys older than 4/5, especially of you are looking for something other than sports clothes.
I always thought that a majority of Gymboree’s styles were too babyish for kids older than 3 (the boys clothes, anyway—the girls always seemed really cute). Maybe that and their prices is where they went wrong. If they had prices reasonably to start with so people didn’t have to play games to get a decent price, maybe they would have sold more clothing.
