my brother didn't actually clear snow.. it was just his responsibility to manage the workers who did it. (though I'm sure he could have done it if they had more equipment..)..

Ok. I've had enough snow for this year! We have well over a foot out there now (not sure how much more, the 12" ruler got swallowed up). We're far enough South that we may be getting rain or sleet today. I'm very grateful I don't have to go anywhere, but DH does and his guys have been working almost non stop since Friday doing snow removal and just can't keep up. They've been sleeping in their trucks. Oh man, I missed about your dh working out there doing snow removal until Crack-a-lackin mentioned it! Yes, please thank him for us! To be fair, he is the manager, so isn't actually doing the manual labor. He is fielding calls from unhappy customers, doing the rounds and taking the 30 guys food and drinks, going to the airport to pick up guys that came from out of state to help, trying to keep track of who has worked 18 hours in a row and needs to take a break, tracking down new snow shovels, helping out shoveling when he can, etc. There just isn't enough of them or their plows to go around. They've already had 2 of their plows ruined this weekend by cars running into them!

I was just reading that a semi crashed on I-5 near Olympia overnight. It lost some of its load. What was it you ask? Live chickens. Roaming I-5. I immediately thought of you @megmc I’m so angry at that driver for being out in this...those poor chickens! (Never mind the fact they probably were heading to an even worse fate).

Hope you all are keeping safe as can be. We didn't get hit with it in OR like you all did this time, but we're all thinking of you.

I just went and measured a fresh, flat area of snow in the middle of my backyard - 18 inches exactly so far! And it’s still coming down steady. That’s a crazy amount for this area.

I immediately thought of you @megmc I know, I was worried about the fate of those chickens. There is a big box truck (carrying produce according the what’s painted on the truck) in a ditch on a curve in the hill by my house . I know. I was like "run, chickies, run!" But then I thought what's worse? Getting rounded up for their impending fate, or having them slowly freeze to death. Either way, their future isn't looking so good.

Whoa, I didn't realize that the south sound got that much! There's 10" on my terrace. I am so incredibly bummed that its going to turn to rain this afternoon. I was counting on a couple more days of snow. Tomorrow is going to be a seriously ugly and wet day.

They won’t freeze and water isn’t a problem either. They can actually eat snow!and they wear down coats. Predators are the big problem for them.

Our neighborhood is in a weird weather pocket though, and near a lake, so sometimes we get more stuff than Olympia or even other parts of Tumwater. I don’t even know what to expect when rain hits all of this.

Our power came back on last night, yay! I ground some coffee today to stock up in case we lose it again - it has not stopped snowing all day. I went to take the bus into town to run a couple of errands, but the buses have stopped running this part of the route.

It is snowing here and we are expecting 25 cm today and tonight. They have canceled the 5 pm ferry and everything tonight. We are staying put on the island.

I have very tall firs in my backyard and the snow is starting to fall off of them because of the weight. It’s like mini avalanches. It’s fun to watch as long as nothing important is under them .

You got out just in time! I'm in Bremerton too. 7" in the first big dumping, plus another 4" more fluffy stuff tonight. It sounds like your DD must be in another part of town - I'm guessing EastBrem? They got the bridges back open last I heard. Is she in walking distance from any big stores? The plow truck came through for the first time this morning, spreading some sand, and made another pass later in the day. We're not one of the main arterials, but we run parallel to a couple and provide an alternate through-road near the shipyard. Not that too many people are going anywhere. Shipyard is closed, libraries and schools are closed, the Naval base is only requiring essential personnel to report. I didn't know there were 6 plows - effectively one per town, I guess. I've only seen them a few times before in the last 15 years here. I heard a WASHDOT guy say that they had all 100 plows out in Seattle the other night. I wondered if that was 100 for the greater Seattle area? or exactly how much ground they had to cover. A lot, I'm sure. But they said they'd need to spend $26million to have enough plows to deal with this shit, and of course most years they wouldn't be used at all. I need to pull out my scrapbook from the last year I lived on Queen Anne Hill - 2004, I think. Everybody was skiing and tubing down the hill, and we even saw a crazy guy on a snowmobile... that was one of my first really big snowfall experiences. Yep, she's in East Bremerton. Her hubby will walk to Fred Myer's if necessary, and if it's open. By 9pm last night (Sunday) they'd had another 5". The "main" road behind her subdivision hasn't been plowed yet. She said that a 4x4 in her neighborhood just made it out, and that was before the last round of snow. I also got a text from the City of Bainbridge Island yesterday early evening (west coast time) saying the roads were unsafe and to please stay off of them. That was for the entire island. I know people from other areas don't understand why this amount of snow is such a big deal here, but it really is. Lack of plows and gravel/salt, almost no vehicles with snow tires or chains, ice under the snow, no one used to driving in snow, etc. I wish the Seattle news outlets were doing more coverage about the conditions in the outlying areas like Bremerton. I get most of my updates from my daughter, lol! King5 had a van driving around Bremerton at lunchtime but they were right downtown. Hopefully they will report on the eastside/outskirts a bit. btw they brought in some reporters to anchor to let Mimi and Joyce take a break. One girl was in a leather jacket - it was so jarring to see someone anchoring in black, let alone a leather moto-jacket! lol. Fred Meyer has been emailing me each day to say they're open 7-7, just no deliveries or pickups, that kind of thing. I snowshoed down to the post office this morning! It was loads of fun and a damn good workout. I had orders I needed to get sent out from my etsy shop and a POBox to check so what the heck, I decided to try out the random snowshoes we inherited. The main roads had been plowed and sanded, not too many people outside, nothing open except the post office. It started snowing on the way home and the news said we'll get another 6" in Bremerton before Tues morning (for a running total of 17"). It's coming down thick and fast. Hubby and I got the sidewalk and pathway cleared before it started again, and we have a giant snow mountain in our tiny backyard because we cleared some porch roofs and the driveway. The news was saying it was too cold for much melting, even in the places that are getting rain instead of fat flakes. Stay warm and safe, everyone!

It's been snowing here for the last three hours. The kids in the cul de sac are petitioning to ask the snow plow not to plow tonight or tomorrow morning so they can get one more day of sledding in. I don't blame them! It may be a decade before we see s now like this again and by that time, they'll be grown ups!
Guessing school gets called again tomorrow. Maybe we'll be back Wednesday and Thursday. Friday and the next Monday are mid-winter break.

Used to be a yard, but with all the snow we cleared from other places it's now Snow Mountain. Will it ever melt? Will someone build a cave in it? http://instagram.com/p/BtwyiO4jV91

We had record snowfall yesterday for Feb 10th in Spokane and will hit another if we get 3 1/2” by midnight. It’s already at 1, so it’s possible. They are saying another 8-12” by Wednesday. I don see it happening since all my weather apps show it hitting 34 degrees tomorrow. That would mean rain, so I’m confused lol.
DH just went to bed so he can get some decent sleep before work calls him in to plow snow. Hopefully they don’t wait to call the guys in until there’s 5-6 inches like they tend to do. The roads will be super crappy and dangerous.
If we have 6 or more inches by morning im not going to work. I have 4 wheel drive and it’s only 10 mins away, but I don’t want to be in the mess of slop that will happen when it starts raining. People drive like idiots and I don’t want to take the chance of getting in a wreck.

I'll give you her address so your DH can head her way next winter.

They just called and gave him a time to come in. Way better than the usual “can you be here in 30 mins?”

Started snowing again in my location. So thankful for the HOA hiring people to clear our small subdivision yesterday. It was worth getting woke up at 7am. The kids are loving the 15'mounds of snow piled on the corner lots. Now if my landscaper can get here to clear the 6" of snow off my side of the driveway I'll be a happy camper. Do you have one of those steep driveways? A person on the main dirt road hired out his plowing. The plower did a nice job on the driveway but mess up the road. Our neighborhood has really gone down in the friendly factor.

18 inches of snow in our back yard and it is still snowing. No school again today (this is day five since last week). DS is attempting to go to work this afternoon, so cross fingers for him. The forecast says rain this afternoon...let the soupy mess begin!

This is what caused our power outage last night, not yours of course, but on the end of our street. We are lucky, ours went out at 6 pm and came back on at about 12:30’ish. We also have a wood fireplace with insert and had a good fire going. I had just reheated some chili and was serving it up when the lights went out. So we still had a hot meal.

I think it must have snowed another foot at my house last night. Crazy! We have a boxwood hedge around our grass in the backyard. The snow is now as high as the hedge. Probably about 2 feet! Crazy!!
