It’s windy and snowing and we are expecting a storm again. It was really nice this morning. Now it’s freezing and blustery. No candles will be used ever again.

It's snowing here, right on time. Looks like a lot of south Sound school districts has closed tomorrow. Some on the peninsula too. Just waiting for youngest DS to get home and then I can relax!

I’m not excited about the forecast. I’m actually a little panicky anticipating losing power. I have plenty of food and flashlights and a fireplace and I’m sure I’ll be fine but I’ve gone through stretches of being without power for days and it’s miserable. I always forget where everyone is, but if you need something, let us all know. We might be able to help

I went out for a long walk and lunch with a couple of friends who live within walking distance of my place. It’s a winter wonderland! In our neighborhood’s business district many of the restaurants were open but the place we went had a sign that they were closing at 3 to allow their employees to get home before the snow started again. Most of the retail was closed.
Here’s an updated pic of our fountain. There’s a pic from yesterday about halfway down page 7 if you’re interested. Can’t wait to see what it looks like tomorrow.

My husband is plowing our road. There is no way we would be able to get out. Since it is a private road and the ashat who paved his part put in a speed bump, the city won’t plow any of it. Even though we pay the city for road maintenance. Wow, that must be infuriating! We were just informed by our HOA that without power the septic system in our development isn’t being pumped properly or something, so now we need to drastically limit our water usage. I’m still grateful we have hot water (or running’s water at all), but now we have to be careful how much we’re flushing and sending down the drains. Ugh. They are predicting our power should be back on tomorrow night. I’m not holding my breath... Oh no! everything crossed!

Power back on!!! . I came home at 5:30 from picking my son up from work and there were three power trucks entering my neighborhood. The weather was already getting pretty bad again - snow and lots of wind - and it was getting dark. When we passed them they were talking together, and I really thought they were going to turn around given the conditions. But less than 30 minutes later we had power again - yay! I’ve done two loads of laundry and vacuumed the whole house already. Of course it’s still coming down hard here and we could lose it again at any time. I hope those still without power get it back soon, and everyone remains safe. Unfortunately this isn’t over yet .

Crazy amount of snow in Monroe today, my husband will be working at home again tomorrow. I guess I am glad our event got canceled tonight, would not have wanted to be driving back in this.
Good, warm vibes for those without electricity.

Power company was in the area and can fix this “quickly”. They estimated 11:20 and they are good about estimates.

My dd is in Bremerton. By 9 am today (Saturday) they had 9". They probably have picked up another 2 during the day. The two bridges that connect east and west Bremerton are both closed. There are apparently cars abandoned all over Kitsap county, even on some pretty major roads. Apparently Kitsap County (i.e. Bremerton, Port Orchard, Silverdale, Poulsbo and Bainbridge Island) only owns SIX snowplows. SIX. That is for a truly large area. Bremerton residents were told to expect it to be 36-48 hours before the main roads are plowed there. DD can't get out of her subdivision due to both the amount of snow and the ice underneath the snow. She's hoping she stocked enough food to get them through. Most of the stores in Bremerton and Silverdale stayed closed today. She tried multiple times over the last week to find either a snow shovel or salt, and was unable to find either. Meanwhile, in our old neck of the woods on Bainbridge, there was 11"!!! I love snow, but I'm quite happy with the weather here in Tampa. Cloudy today, supposed to have rain showers tonight, but the high was still about 76. You got out just in time! I'm in Bremerton too. 7" in the first big dumping, plus another 4" more fluffy stuff tonight. It sounds like your DD must be in another part of town - I'm guessing EastBrem? They got the bridges back open last I heard. Is she in walking distance from any big stores? The plow truck came through for the first time this morning, spreading some sand, and made another pass later in the day. We're not one of the main arterials, but we run parallel to a couple and provide an alternate through-road near the shipyard. Not that too many people are going anywhere. Shipyard is closed, libraries and schools are closed, the Naval base is only requiring essential personnel to report. I didn't know there were 6 plows - effectively one per town, I guess. I've only seen them a few times before in the last 15 years here. I heard a WASHDOT guy say that they had all 100 plows out in Seattle the other night. I wondered if that was 100 for the greater Seattle area? or exactly how much ground they had to cover. A lot, I'm sure. But they said they'd need to spend $26million to have enough plows to deal with this shit, and of course most years they wouldn't be used at all. I need to pull out my scrapbook from the last year I lived on Queen Anne Hill - 2004, I think. Everybody was skiing and tubing down the hill, and we even saw a crazy guy on a snowmobile... that was one of my first really big snowfall experiences.

Everybody was skiing and tubing down the hill, and we even saw a crazy guy on a snowmobile... that was one of my first really big snowfall experiences. Yep, she's in East Bremerton. Her hubby will walk to Fred Myer's if necessary, and if it's open. By 9pm last night (Sunday) they'd had another 5". The "main" road behind her subdivision hasn't been plowed yet. She said that a 4x4 in her neighborhood just made it out, and that was before the last round of snow. I also got a text from the City of Bainbridge Island yesterday early evening (west coast time) saying the roads were unsafe and to please stay off of them. That was for the entire island. I know people from other areas don't understand why this amount of snow is such a big deal here, but it really is. Lack of plows and gravel/salt, almost no vehicles with snow tires or chains, ice under the snow, no one used to driving in snow, etc. I wish the Seattle news outlets were doing more coverage about the conditions in the outlying areas like Bremerton. I get most of my updates from my daughter, lol!

Ok. I've had enough snow for this year! We have well over a foot out there now (not sure how much more, the 12" ruler got swallowed up). We're far enough South that we may be getting rain or sleet today.
I'm very grateful I don't have to go anywhere, but DH does and his guys have been working almost non stop since Friday doing snow removal and just can't keep up. They've been sleeping in their trucks.

schools and government are closed.
The crews are trying to deal with massive snow drifts. We had nearly 5 ft of drifted snow on our road.
We are more than pissed that one neighbor plowed his driveway and a path out and that was IT! What makes it worse? He is a Leo and gave no thought to the rest of the neighbors.
So my husband started plowing the road, but ran out of diesel. So our son drive up to get him to take him to get some. Son dropped him off as close as he could get (the leo’s driveway). Son went to get more diesel. When he got back he parked next to the guy’s Driveway. The guy came out and started yelling at him to move because he had to go to work. IN AN HOUR! Son asked him why he didn’t plow the rest of the road? The guy went back in his house.
Husband finished the road. And plowed out the other neighbors.

my brother retired from being the public works director of woodinville. the thing he misses the least is the snow removal.. not enough plows, lots of complaints, .. the guys would be out there 16 hours a day the snow is just not common enough to spend lots on special equipment.. and many citizens don't have chains and the knowledge.to handle the snow.

I am shocked by the FB reports of people flipping off snow plow drivers or calling into the city irate because their neighborhood hasn't been plowed yet. To me, snow plow drivers are right up there with fire fighters and paramedics. Total heroes! I understand how exhausting it must be to work on snow removal but then have to deal with angry, aggressive and unreasonable people is too much.

I immediately thought of you @megmc I know, I was worried about the fate of those chickens. There is a big box truck (carrying produce according the what’s painted on the truck) in a ditch on a curve in the hill by my house .

It’s been coming down steady in Tumwater for the past two hours. Pessimist that I am I’m just waiting to lose power again. Our trees can’t take anymore.
The road crews and people working on the electricity and other utilities are saints, IMO.

Started snowing again in my location. So thankful for the HOA hiring people to clear our small subdivision yesterday. It was worth getting woke up at 7am. The kids are loving the 15'mounds of snow piled on the corner lots.
Now if my landscaper can get here to clear the 6" of snow off my side of the driveway I'll be a happy camper.
