Next update to the ongoing saga lol.
So she’s decided she really wants this color for her bridesmaids, so I’m probably not going to wear this for the wedding, which is TOTALLY FINE. I knew that was a good possibility going in so I’m completely ok with it. I have a gorgeous new dress that I never would have found otherwise so I’m still thrilled with the purchase!
I asked her if she had a color preference for me and she suggested navy. I love navy - and are you ready for this? The dress was also made in navy.
Shut. The. Front. Door.
I’ve already found one in a size 2 for $45. I’m tempted but the purple 0 fits so perfectly I’m not sure I want to deal with alterations. But what if it’s the only one out there? Ugh. I have exactly zero experience in the world of designer resale. Since I’ve now seen the quality of the dress and tried it on, I’m happy to pay a higher price for a blue one.
I do already own a dark blue/navy lace dress so I won’t go naked if I hold out for a 0.
Thoughts?

Her bridesmaid dresses and colors are purple, and she wants you in navy? That doesn't really seem to go well?

Can't help with the dress, but just wanted to say that my bridesmaids wore that color and my mom wore navy/midnight blue... 23 years ago! 😂 Love how everything comes back in style.

You look fabulous!! I would look around for it in Navy and my size if there is time before the wedding since you have a back up anyways.

You may be able to wear the plum dress to the rehearsal dinner. Or accessories it with ivory for photos, then wear it anyway for the wedding. There's no rule that says you can't wear the same color as the bridesmaids.
And I'd hold off buying a second dress, unless it's the dress that you love, not the color. It's early days--a lot could change. But it's good that you have the option of navy.

Same here. 19 years ago. My stepmom recently got remarried and the bridesmaids wore eggplant and so did the bridesmaids. They weren’t in the same pics from what I could tell. My stepmom wore a champagne colored dress. I think the mother of the groom wore navy.
