II am totally going to make my mom do the Animation Station with me. I am not super artistic, but can follow directed draws pretty well. My mom cannot draw at all. We used to argue over who had to take her when we played Pictionary. The woman is so talented in many ways, but her drawing skills are non existent. My favorite was when she was trying to draw a car. Imagine an egg with four circles hovering around it. It looked more like a headless baby then a car. If your Mom is hesitant, tell her the sheet of paper they provide has some guidelines on it. DH was worried because he didn't have an eraser. Just go with it! They're currently flattening from being rolled for the drive home, but they are phenomenal and not because we are super artistic. I believe blemon had posted before about doing the drawings and wasn't sure how to display them. I'm going to photograph them and then include that in my album. I'm not sure what I'll do with the originals, other than the one my DD did and has claimed for her bedroom. Do you carry your camera a la carte, or do you have a bag for it? I love my camera bag, but it is a sling and I realize carrying it around all day is going to cover up my amazing shirts. Just curious what you did. So, back over 13 years ago when I first got my dSLR, I bought one of those gorgeous fake leather camera bags that all the Mom-arazzi had. It's turquoise and lime green inside and has lots of pockets. Unfortunately, it was never good for carrying. At least not when I was already carrying my camera, the baby, and diaper bag. That bag has basically sat in my closet holding my other camera lenses or extra batteries and the turquoise decided to start flaking off about a year ago, so I guess it's a good thing it didn't get any heavy use. Anyway. I do not have a camera bag and as much as I'd like to try one of those sling type things, they're always just black. I need color. It's bad enough my dSLR is black. Although, I do have a colorful strap for it, so there's that. I keep it long enough to where I can walk with it on my hip and shoulder for quick shooting or, if I'm Rope Dropping, I can reach behind my back with my left hand to hold it against my body and still have my right arm free to hold a child's hand. There were very, very few other people in any park while we were there that had a camera that was not a phone. That's not shocking, but I do notice when someone has a "real" camera. Also, I actually have a special water bag for my camera that I usually bring to the beach, but I forgot it, so I just kept it under the bottom of my shirt or the poncho. Dear God, those ponchos can get hot though. I hope you don't deal with much rain though. Thanks for the info, You may be pleased when I tell you my camera sling bag is bright orange!

Thanks for the info, You may be pleased when I tell you my camera sling bag is bright orange! Ma'am when you have some down time, I'd love a link if it's still available. That's going to be my #1 Christmas gift. I never did the drawings. But reading your review, I totally want to. It sounds like so much fun! We did have silhouettes cut on main street our first trip and it is one of my most precious items. Maybe that's what I was thinking? But, yes, this is definitely a "must do", IMO. I'm sure the hurricane played into it, but our train rides were empty both ways, too.

It is a backpack I bought for hiking and taking my DSLR so it is not even remotely cute other than the fact it is orange. It is called the AW Lowepro sling backpack. I love it for Disney trip so because it is super comfortable to wear and on rides I just slide it around to the front of me and I don't have to even take it off. It also has plenty of room to hold snacks and a water bottle and my wallet and my poncho. It also has its own little " Dress" which is a waterproof covering that tucks up underneath it that you can put on when a set of shower occurs.

Thank you! I'm going to send it to DH for Christmas. We don't have another trip planned but it's not as if bags go bad.

Final DW Day - Magic Kingdom #2
It was incredibly foggy. I have a photo from Tomorrowland bridge-ish and you can't even see the top of the castle. It cleared up, but it was pretty overcast for a bit. We hopped straight on Space Mountain, but had our LL for Pirates. After Space, we decided to try the Astro Orbiter. For those not familiar, you have to wait in line on the ground and then ride an elevator up to another smaller waiting area split in 2. We got in line and an elevator went down. This means we had to wait for the elevator to go up with a group, then wait for the people up top to finish their ride, to load back onto the elevator and come back down. It was a longer wait than originally anticipated. It was a surprisingly fun ride! It was like a faster Dumbo with great views. If both elevators are working and the line is under 30 minutes, you should ride.
We hit our Pirates LL and then I immediately booked Splash. We had some time, so we found the closest Mickey pretzel vendor, which ended up being across from the Country Bear Jamboree. We were there just in time to see 2 of the 3 bears out waving from above which thrilled my son because "Bear" has been his nickname since was born. Then we went to snag my Lava You Float and then turned around and cut through that bathroom area near Sunshine Tree Terrace to get back on the Liberty side. We caught one of those CMs that do the water art on the ground using a broom? He made Chip + Dale! They were phenomenal. (Side note: I'm not sure how people are so damn oblivious to things, but there were multiple people who just walked through the onlookers and straight onto his art. I was furious for him, but he took it in stride.)
We hit our Splash LL and I booked a Little Mermaid. We definitely had time to kill between LLs. It's frustrating and after having used LL vs FP, I prefer FP.
The other frustration / cool thing is that they were filming the "Disney Parks Holiday Special". Which means, the castle was blocked off as well as many other locations using tape, rope, and CMs. They also had giant lifts(?) directly behind the Mickey + walt fountain that blocked off portions and then had tons of potted trees to block even more. I understand they have to do these things, but holy crap balls. It was all day and all night. If you were on the front or sides of the castle, you could hear the taping over and over, then they'd hype "the crowd". I can't imagine how some of those people stayed in their sweaters and fully decked out all day. They did.
Later in the afternoon, we had had enough, so we bailed. We would go back that evening for our goodbye and to see the lights.
We dropped our gear at the hotel and DS wanted to go back to The Boardwalk because they have a courtyard of fake grass that's pretty big and kids gather there to play. Sure enough, they found some friends to run around with. I was going to go inside The Boardwalk to see if they'd put up their tree, when DH starts yelling for me to come back. Yes, I rolled my eyes because this usually happens for something silly. This was the biggest reversal of an eye roll. DS had spotted some new friends and wanted me to see them.
IT WAS DONALD AND CHIP + DALE AND GOOFY!!! They just walked out of the hotel and started giving people high fives! Then they congregated in that courtyard and let everybody do photos. I got a selfie with Donald and then with Goofy. My kids posed with all 4 individually. There were a few CMs around to help, but it was very chill. More people showed up after word spread, but they started heading out after being there for maybe 20 minutes? It was one of my trip highlights and caused some tears for me.
DH had the watermelon margarita btw, and if that's your kind of thing, he said it was delicious!
We went back to MK after dinner (yes, I ate the deli + fries again, I regret nothing) and it was beautiful. The castle was still blocked off, but not as much. I braved the crowd solo so I could get a nighttime photo, but it was definitely too people-y. We rode Big Thunder Mountain again - the back row is THE BEST ROW!!! And, for our first time, we rode the People Mover. That was another fun surprise since it was night. Tron is running empty, but the cars are lit up. OH, we saw Tiana waving at people from a window down in Liberty, across from that Christmas shop.
If you think you want your photo near the Christmas Tree on Main Street, it's a long wait. I think it's better to be farther away from the tree, but the line where you stand right under the tree was the longest.
I think everyone should own a snoap wand - don't forget to buy refill snoap!
Be sure to ask the PhotoPass photographer to give you the Magic shots. We found that most just do the same 3 poses: smile, excited hands in the air, and group hug. BOOOOOOOOOORING! If you ask them for the special shots, they'll load it up. Youngest DD was absolutely ecstatic for a Stitch one in Tomorrowland. There are even some special holiday ones.
From a SBing pre-planner aspect, I also took photos of each wreath I encountered to form a collage either in my trip albums OR in my December Daily when I want some filler. I only ended up with 28, but they're fun to look back on.

TY for all your detailed trip reports! I love the people mover!
This is completely random, but did you happen to notice if that sunshine terrace they had the orange bird sipper cup available for purchase? I really want one but I need to be prepared if it's not available. I don't know if they sell it year round or not.
I'm so glad you had such a great time. What a fun experience to see Donald and gang!

DH is still watching Disney vacation tip videos, even though we are home and no longer planning a Disney trip now. Molly with the Mammoth Club had a list on one of her videos. She’d found some postings online about how “Disney Adults are the worst!” So she set out with her list to see just how horrible it is to be a Disney Adult. Apparently, this qualifies you as a Disney Adult, based on her Disney Adult Cringe List: 1. Cry at Disney things. 2. Wear Minnie Ears. 3. Wear character clothes. 4. Go to a character breakfast without kids. 5. Take a bunch of castle selfies. 6. Buy an expensive limited time collectible. 7. Wait a long time for an overpriced dessert. 8. Buy Disney merchadise. So…. Just curious. Do you qualify? And why in the world would any or all of that make Disney adults “the worst?” I didn’t get to hear that part of the video, but seriously, what is wrong with being a Disney adult? (One of the perks of being an older Disney fan is that you don’t have to care about other people’s opinions.) I probably qualify, although I don’t cry at Disney things. DH and I both wore the ears (those ears hurt!) and Mickey/Minnie bounding outfits for a photoshoot. We did a character dinner at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom without kids. (Loved it!) We got lots of photos of DH and me in front of the castle, thanks to all the Disney photographers there. Yes, we did buy an expensive limited time collectible (50th Anniversary of Epcot ornament). We also bought a couple of pricey desserts, but we never had to wait long. And yes, we have lots of fun Disney merchandise some of which we bought there, some at the Disney store closer to home, some online. I’d probably add a few other possibilities for that list: 9. Has a pin collection. 10. Has a Disney Christmas tree. 11. Wears Disney socks. 12. Bought a baby Ewok outfit for the coming grandbaby. Any other suggestions for the list? I think I may include a scrapbook page about this at the end of our Disney album. The board are my response to this! Yes, I am a Disney Adult. I do all but wear ears, but only because they hurt. I cry super easy about everything, but definitely cry happy tears when I entire the park. I totally teared up the first time I rode the HMH in DL. It was so beautiful. Also teared up when meeting Jack. I don't typically buy anything expensive when at the park, but we do have fancy LE things at home. I will say my most ridiculous park purchase was a probably four and a half foot tall stuffed Jack Skellington. He resides in my scrapbook room and makes me incredibly happy. I will admit I look like a total nitwit carrying him through the airport as my personal item and trying to deal with him on the plane, I didn't want him to get dirty, so he sat with me in my seat. My husband was next to me and I had the window so no one else was bothered, but I know I looked ridiculous. Hopefully people just assumed I was taking it home for a child, even though he is mine, all mine!

I got a little teary eyed watching some sort of special on disney+ about decorating for the holidays. I'm a mess.

It also comes with Mickey snowflake stickers! I didn't attach them because I might use some for my album. What a fun experience to see Donald and gang! I felt really lucky because we got to meet him in 3 different outfits: Mexico, The Boardwalk, and Topolino's! You won't hurt my feelings. It's a totally different type of experience, IMO. We also did the Holiday "tour" and I have some not so good feelings about it. ^.^

Happy to hear about Universal.
We went a few years ago. I remember having to buy two tickets so we could go to both sides of Harry Potter.
So it was like $180 per person where our Disney tix were like $100 a person for one day.

So it was like $180 per person where our Disney tix were like $100 a person for one day. I bought our tickets from Undercover Tourist, so for our 6 day Disney tickets (with Genie+ before they scrapped that option) it was $650.18. The Universal tickets were on a promo (that they run often) that was a 3 day Park-to-Park ticket + 2 days free for $335.81. We stayed at the Dolphin for Disney and the Loews Royal Pacific Resort for Universal and they were similarly priced, BUT Loews was a much better value overall for a couple of reasons. #1 by staying there you automatically get Express Passes for the parks. Unlike Disney, most all rides accept Express Passes and it's a much shorter line and you don't need to reserve in advance. You can purchase Express Passes separately but it's not cheap and adds up quickly. #2 I made our reservations over a year ahead of time and caught a Club Level room and added a night, but ended up saving money overall. I had to have DH come in and verify my math, it was nuts. Club Level is the same room as the rest of the resort but they have a specific Lounge where they put out different foods (based on a posted schedule) and you can always stop by for water/soda/coffee. You're free to load up or head out. This alone saved us tons of money. #3 The rooms are bigger (or seem, I haven't compared square footage) than the Dolphin AND the beds are bigger and more comfortable. I had read the Dolphin beds were so amazing. Not for us. I felt like I was sleeping on the floor. #4 The lobby smells amazing. Yes, other hotels have their own smell stuff, but this is my favorite. The only thing I don't care for at this hotel is the bathroom. It's a sliding barn door and doesn't offer much privacy. We had already stayed at the Royal Pacific in 2020 and knew we wanted to go back. We hadn't done the Club Level before and will try to do that in the future. There was an issue when we were checking in. We were there shortly after 11 and knew check in is not until 4pm, but checked in at the desk and gave them DH's cell to text us. We wandered around and visited the Lounge to kill time. At 3:30, we noticed lots of the luggage trolleys had started disappearing. DH went up to the counter and asked if ours was perhaps ready and she said "Check in is not until after 4pm". We let it go and continued waiting in the lobby with our luggage. We had self parked and brought it in a little bit ago. At 4:30, I was irritated. The entire lobby was clear and other people who were just entering were being sent to their rooms. DH asked and the new lady he spoke with said "it should be ready... oh, we have the wrong number down for you. You should've received your text a while ago." /facepalm I'll post more later. Happy Thanksgiving / Happy Thursday !

Fair warning, this is a not happy review of our Tour at Universal:
So, we did our Topolino's character breakfast and headed to the Royal Pacific. One of the reasons we were anxious to get checked in was because we had a Tour scheduled that night at 6pm. Now, I had read multiple bloggers/IGers and DISboard people's reviews. I had read the Universal website multiple times and had received even more info from them after I booked it. A 5 hour tour at 6pm was going to be tough for us, but we'd agreed it would be worth it based on the stuff I had read.
We walked over to the check in location and got there around 5:30. The line was outrageous and it did not stop after we got in line. I would say after it was all said and done we were smack dab in the middle of the line. It was not a good start. I realize lines are a thing at amusement parks, but every single person I'd read commentary from failed to mention the lines for this tour. I should also point out it was opening night. So, this meant all the "hiccups". When the line started moving, it was to put us in another queue that wound around a box office area that had 2 people in it. There were hundreds of us waiting. They finally decided to change how they were checking people in and had extra tablets brought out. But, this lead to speeding up that line, but then waiting in more lines to verify you had tickets for the event. Then another line to get your tour group. Then another line to verify your park tickets, because you have to have the park to park tickets.
Honestly, to summarize, The Tour was mostly waiting in line and being confused because the guides were confused and understaffed. There seemed to be no real rhyme or reason, other than a general itinerary that included: watch the Who-liday Spectacular in a packed theater (which was excellent), eat horrible cookies and cold hot cocoa, meet the Grinch (again, spectacular), ride Jimmy Fallon's ride (the surprise ride, but we'd all hoped it was a better one), meet Santa, and then watch Hogwart's Light Show. The part that was left out was the waiting and how crowded it was. Everybody had raved it was so nice to have your tour group of 12, blah blah. Yes, we were in a group of 12. But you're constantly being grouped with the other groups and when your group fails to get in line for the Grinch in the allotted time, you're then waiting for them to finish. And then they didn't open the bridge just outside Hogsmeade, so we were all crowded in front of the castle to watch the show. Which, again, avoiding giant mobs of people was one of the main reasons to do the Tour.
Never ever, ever again. I hope our experience was the only one that was terrible because there is a whole season lined up of more of those tours, but it was not good for us. I waited in line for Hagrid's Coaster in 2020 for almost 2 hours and it was more exciting than that Tour considering you can do the stuff we enjoyed during normal park hours.
I'm glad this recap is over with, because it does get better once we do the "regular" park stuff.

The two Universal parks are Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. The experience is so different from Disney for a few reasons. There's no big plan, plan, plan. It's more laid back, IMO. The people are not as nice as Disney, of course there are exceptions. At Disney, I don't have to answer questions about why a grown man is wearing a shirt featuring the giant words "Working harder than an ugly stripper", for example, or stupid political shirts. Disney has Universal beat, hands down, in the photo taking department as well. You have to activate your photo pass in a shop and have it scanned every time. Unless it's a special thing where they can't scan it and then you have to now carry a card around. The rides don't automatically send the photos to your app, you have to scan at the end. The number of rides that take photos and availability of photographers is low, even compared to Disney's cutbacks on photographers.
For our trip, the early admittance was limited to only IoA, so that made it easy. We rope dropped that first official morning only because 1-we were up early even though we'd had a late night and 2-we weren't interested in rushing to a main attraction. We were dodged by all the runners (some, literally) while we went straight to Hogsmeade for some butterbeer and wand practice. The kids and I rode Forbidden Journey but because you can't bring anything on the ride, DH decided to skip since I had my big camera and he had his huge backpack. After that morning, he decided to leave it in the hotel since our resort was an easy walk to the parks if we needed anything.
Another thing that I felt Universal did really well was decorate their parks. I was not at Disney for the "high time", but Universal had just done their reveal and it was awesome. The major tree they have is over 80 feet tall and they actually use some of the floats from the Macy's Day Parade. They also have a tree hunt that spans the 2 parks and City Walk (their version of a Downtown Disney / Disney Springs) which is right outside both parks. You bet your tail we had a blast searching for all the trees and Earl the Squirrel.
The Wizarding World is also decked out and has holiday performances throughout the day with special surprises.
We did 4 full days of the 2 parks. We rode Hagrid's twice (two different mornings) and DH & I did Velocicoaster each once while my oldest DD did it twice and younger DD did it once. DS had zero interest and had butterbeer both times and watched us from the bridge. That ride is AMAZING. Unless you don't like roller coasters, then don't do it!
DH has a fondness for water rides, so we all agreed to leave the big camera and bags at the room and do Bluto's since the other one has been closed since Hurricane Ian. DH tells us "oh, this is the one we barely got wet on". He was so wrong. We were soaked. I mean, SOAKED. People were laughing at us as we walked back through Superhero Land to get to Seussville. We ran into Rogue (from X-Men and also my favorite superher), so I have some pics of us while we're drowned rats with her. I love it.
Oldest DD is really big into HP and wanted to try the wand ceremony again. We went once and my youngest DD was pointing at her the whole time to hopefully help her out. Another family's son was chosen. So, we tried again later on. Youngest DD did her pointing thing, but SHE was chosen. Oldest DD told me later she was so happy for her but so sad. Totally understandable. She decided she wouldn't get a wand that day, because her sister got hers. The next day she decided she didn't need a ceremony and would choose her own wand. My Slytherin girl.
DS was excited to meet Captain America again, so of course we did that. He wore his favorite Cap hoodie and brought his new shield he purchased in DS. Cap was very impressed that it lights up and makes noise. When we left Cap he ran into Cyclops (another X-Men) and DS loved that Cyclops wanted to hold it for a minute. Spider-Man is always a standout visit though. He's just amazing (hah!) and chatted the kids up before photos.
I finally got my photo taken on the Knight Bus! I always take photos of the kids, but this time I handed my big camera over for my own.
If I ever plan another Disney / Universal vacation, I think putting Universal 2nd will always be the way to go for us. Unless Disney changes their rules again... hahaha.
I can't wait to hear how everyone else's upcoming visits go!

Thanks for the Universal report! I am sorry your tour was so terrible, that is just ridiculous, sounds like a freaking nightmare. Imaginary Potter lamp looks especially beautiful all Christmas upped. I’m sorry you missed the Disney decorations, I have been looking in the blogs and they really look spectacular. I think you were there when they were starting to put them out, but I don’t think they really finished until this week.
I cannot believe I will be leaving one week from today!
Thank you everyone for all your trip reports, hints. secrets and tips and tricks, they are really really appreciated,,,

Thanks for the universal report! That really suck about the tour. Have you called or emailed customer service? Clearly you weren't given what was advertised.

We went from 11-14 to 11-19 and the best advice I can give is regarding meeting the grinch. You have to make a virtual appt and you have to be on their wi-fi to get it!!! Usually released around 8:45 but just start checking right away. I had a hard time getting on the wifi but once I did I got an appt!!! It was so much fun!!! And the grinch Christmas show was great also!!!

No, I didn't contact CS directly, but they sent me a survey while I was on my drive home. I doubt they'll do anything, but I might reach out now that I'm back and fully settled. I usually don't struggle to get back in my groove at home, but this time has been hard.

I usually don't struggle to get back in my groove at home, but this time has been hard. We went to Disney in 2021. I had just finished my dissertation and turned it in to my committee. I needed to go to the beach so we rented an airbnb on the gulf coast. Then I thought, well, we're in Florida, let's go to Disney for two days. So we tacked on a couple of nights in Orlando to see friends then 2 days at Disney and booked Pop. We drove so it was fine. Our trip was great. Until Disney. Everything was just off. They sent a survey and I told them all the things that were just bad and not up to Disney standards. A few days later I got a call from Lake Buena Vista and you better believe I picked up. It was a CM offering to comp our tickets. That's why we went back in May of 2022 for our daughter's birthday. It never hurts to send an email, especially when you spend so much. You didn't have high expectations.

For the love of all that is Mickey... As an aside, I've started the actual documenting in my DWHPW albums. My process is: edit and order photos, place photos in page protectors, then I go through and chop up papers / place cards, etc. After the paper is in, it's still pretty flexible, but then I go back to the start and start documenting and doing the fun, final placements. This also lets me use up an entire sheet of paper if I need and not fret about it later. Anyway. I just finished the paper placing last night and now it's the nitty gritty. This is the first year I'm "behind" on DD because I don't have any pics in my hand yet. As a cheat, I'll be snapping a photo of my DW album in process for one of the DD days though. You're killing the DD this year, blemon.

You're killing the DD this year, blemon. Aw, thanks. That is so nice of you. I've just been having fun this year. I skipped day 7 because I had an actual story from the 8th. I have no idea what I'm going to put there. I have some ideas but it can really be anything. I'm thinking I could do the advent calendars in one of those pages with all the 2X2 squares. I was just going to cut up the boxes. Or use the stocking. I don't know what to put in it though. Maybe those tags. I don't know. So I'm working on day 8.

We went to universal in November and waited an hour to ride hagrids and it was so worth it!!!!!! Velocicoaster wasn’t my favorite though. We went for my 50th and it was just me and my hubby but are going back in May and bringing the adult kids with their bf/gf. Can’t wait!! We also went to magic kingdom for the mickeys very merry Christmas party and loved it! One night isn’t enough to do it all. I went for the rides and did all but one that I wanted because my husband wanted to go to the monsters inc show but wasn’t able to see any characters. I would do it for 2 nights next time. No waits on lines either except Snow White mine train and big thunder mountain.
