I'm on a journey to get healthier and lose weight. I have lost 40 lbs in the last 6 months and have a what feels like a significant bit still to go. (heavy sigh) If you have been sucessful losing weight what strategies have you found that worked for you. I have stalled on the weight loss since the end of the year. Not gained any back, but not losing like I would like.
I use My fitness pal, happy scale app, and my model app to track my weight. Probably over-kill, but I like seeing it on the different apps. I eat lower carb, but not super low carb. Probably should track food on MFP, but I don't. My DH has lost a ton of weight and is now super fit. He weighs daily. I find daily weights frustrating because of the flucuations. I get depressed if my weight is up, even though I understand that it's normal and to be expected. So, I have been weighing a couple of times a week instead.
Please share anything you have found helpful in losing weight and keeping it off. Thanks.

There was a thread yesterday asking the same question you could check out.

I’m finding intermittent fasting really great This sounds interesting to me, I quickly looked it up and looks like certain periods of the day like eat during an 8 hour period, fast 16 hours. Or a couple days during week fast. What has your experience been? I think a lot of us are on the same page these days and looking to lose some weight. It seems like the intermittent fasting is a very doable first step or approach.

Honestly, daily exercise has been the key lifestyle change for me to keep a large amount of weight off. I have had some weight gain over the past few years due to Cushing's disease and devolving into stress eating, but I've still remained 80 pounds less than my highest weight.
Daily exercise helps keep me "in my body" and more aware of how I feel and move when I've put on a few pounds vs eating better. Daily exercise is a great stress and anxiety reducer for me, and makes it less likely that I will stress eat (at least as often).

Tracking your food helps keep you mindful and on track. If I have to write it down, I make sure I choose wisely.
ETA: Congratulations on your weight loss! That is something to celebrate!

So, I have been weighing a couple of times a week instead. Please share anything you have found helpful in losing weight and keeping it off. Thanks. Congratulations! I began a thread a few days ago (along with my before/after pics). I have to get back there and post some responses... but I've lost weight and kept it off since 2002. I went from a size 20 to a 2. Currently I'm more of a 4 in pants. I'm 58 years old so I don't expect to ever be stick thin again.
I found that my counselor, one on one, helped me enormously. I got thru the weightloss period (took 1 year) and then maintenance and it still stays with me. I don't yo-yo and the words of my personal counselor are ingrained in me. I'm not tempted by anything. I remember that I can have a bite of anything. I don't overindulge anymore. I'm constantly trying to clean up my diet more and move around more; always trying to get healthier. It FEELS good to me.
I have a journal that I kept from the beginning. I wrote down the physical aspects of being heavy and how it impacted me. I wrote down how each new barrier of lost weight made me feel. I wrote down the emotions to each step. Once I maintained for over a year, it was a non-issue. It comes naturally. I hope that you could get there. I don't need apps or books or counseling anymore. I follow my instincts. I limit unhealthy food and eliminate things that made me feel really bad (sodas, most alcohol, fried foods..... things with tons of cream). IF I want anything unhealthy, I limit it to a very tiny portion, drink a ton more water and move on. I don't hold back if I want a piece of chocolate or some ice cream, but the portion size is key.
Nothing "calls" to me anymore. If it's a problem, don't have it in the house. Think of food as your fuel and try to make it healthy. Drink a TON of water each day. Limit alcohol and junk food. And just keep trying to learn how to make it even more healthy! Good luck!

Accupuncture with NAET is working for me. My body couldn't process some foods, even healthy foods.

Congratulations on your weight loss! 40 pounds is a lot of weight to lose so you should be very proud. Yesterday's thread was titled "My sky high triglyceride levels and eating vegan" If you go to that thread you'll see a lot of advice given on losing weight. What worked for me finally after trying a lot of different diets was a whole foods, plant based diet. It worked because I continue to eat this way to this day (this month marks 5 years) and it's a healthy way to eat. I love this style of eating so much and I don't crave or want what I used to eat-what is called the standard American diet-processed foods, fast food, meat or dairy products. In fact seeing meat in the grocery store makes me shudder now. There are reasons not to eat these foods and they are explained in the "Forks Over Knives" documentary. These are scientific reasons and not just to lose weight-they impact your long term health.
I just had my annual blood work done and one test was to check my cardiovascular risk. 1.0-3.0 is average relative cardiovascular risk. 3.1-10.0 is higher relative cardiovascular risk. Over 10.0 is persistent elevation, upon retesting, may be associated with infection, inflammation. I'm 58. Mine came out to be 0.2! I'm not young-I'm 58. I known this is because of my diet. Several books and leading doctors advocate this diet. For myself once I saw the film I thought I'd give it a try for 30 days to see what would happen. Now there is a book called "The Forks Over Knives Plan" that takes you step by step through the first month. You also have the forksoverknives.com site to help you and there are a lot of recipes on that site, plus there are 3 cookbooks out now from FOK. And the website offers a meal planner to help you if you want to sign up for it.
So I started cold turkey-just picked a day and went for it. To me this was the best way to do it because my cravings for dairy and meat would go away faster this way. And they did. Instead I started craving the new food. And I still do to this day. I got down to my goal weight within a year (I have hypothyroid and was in the middle of menopause so it took longer for me to lose the weight) and my blood work changed too. My cholesterol was 239 at it's highest and now its 165. My doctor was shocked. My asthma completely disappeared. I've always had low blood pressure so that didn't change. I went from a size 18W to a size 4 in pants. I'm still a size M petite in tops because of my big boobs.
Check out yesterday's thread because I posted a long thread about this yesterday too. I wish you the best in whatever decision you make.

I have been involved in a program where you have to weigh yourself every day - my scale sends it electronically to them and it's charted on a line graph. It is good to learn your weight fluctuations. Weighing in every morning will generally lead to better decisions during the day. If I go out to eat and the next day see that my weight is up, I adjust my eating that day. If I feel like I'm retaining a lot of fluids, I make a point to drink more water that day. I feel like it's made me more mindful. I've faithfully stepped on the scale every single day since September 18th and I know it helped me keep my weight in check over the holidays. It has helped me set goals for where I want to be later in the week.
I didn't have a lot of weight to lose and I went down one size. I got rid of all of the clothes that no longer fit. That is motivation to not allow myself to go back where I was. I wear a Fitbit. I find it helpful in keeping me moving and thinking about ways I can add more activity into my day.
Congrats on the weight loss. You've done well.

I’m finding intermittent fasting really great Me too. this really worked well for me. I lost weight and found I was, overall, less hungry and spending less time thinking about food. Another thing I did was to cut out all diet sweeteners. I know this sounds a little odd, but for some reason I lost weight quickly when I wasn't putting splenda in my coffee or drinking diet sodas. Somehow, my body was reacting to it as if I was having sugar. For me, weighing myself once a week was the best thing because I was accountable but not triggered by the slight day-to-day fluctuations. In the past, I would sometimes have a couple of good eating days that weren't reflected by the numbers on the scale, and then I'd become discouraged and start eating carelessly.
