I second the Terro traps. They work wonders. It will take a few days and the trick is you can't kill them as they come and go. You have to let them get the poison and take it back to the next. I have to simply avoid the area while this process is happening because seeing them in my house repulses me! On another note, the quote from below had me laughing out loud this morning!!!

Ants really hate baby powder. The powder slips between their segments and it hurts them, so they will avoid it. When we had ants in our kitchen last year, I sprinkled A LOT of baby powder down on their paths. To find their paths, I gently blew on a few of the ants. It scares them, and they turn right around and go back towards their home. Follow them with the baby powder. They might try and make a few new paths, but just sprinkle those with powder too. Eventually they will take the hint and go away. My friend posted this on Facebook. I tried it this year when they were in our living room behind our couches. You take some baking soda, and mix it with powdered sugar (not regular sugar), and combine with water into a milky paste. Put it on the ground near the ant line. They will swarm it and chow down. They can't taste the baking soda, only the sugar. After they eat some, they will take some of it back to their nest, and feed it to all their friends. The baking soda in the mixture will cause the ants to have gas. And since they can't burp...well, they get to explode. It is very effective, and faster than the baby powder method above. But it will take at least a week to notice a reduction in ants. Because there are a lot of those little bastards. media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/originals/f8/ce/a1/f8cea1f1393fb04e1cc25955e36ee58e.jpgLink to the baking soda mixture with picture and directions

Terro traps. It's basically a sugar syrup with Borax that just seems to work better than straight borax. They aren't messy at all because the syrup is in the trap. And they work. I put them down twice a year, spring and fall, and it controls the ants very, very well. It won't be immediate like spraying Raid, but it also won't hurt your pets and it will get back to the queen and kill her. Good luck! This. Terro really works well.
