I'm just saying we should keep our eyes what has happened or is likely to happen, rather than allowing ourselves to be diverted by DeVos' willingness to draw fire away from the president. Oh, no sweat there.... I wont forget 'no collusion' better yet 'I am exonerated' ...... repeal of ACA. I thought this cut of funding was “just” for school teams though? If they do not have teams in school they are not as likely to participate as adults. Learning the skills in school may send them to jobs and a far better future for their adulthood!

sick to my stomach! Cutting Special Olympics, Cutting Autism Education! Special place in Hell for her and this entire administration. Time to call Congress again and raise the roof and while you're at it, demand to see the Mueller report!

No. But she has a huge pile of money. And for some people, that's more important.

A pox upon her and her house.
If you haven't read The Fifth Risk by Michael Lewis, it doesn't address her idiocy, but it does cover the idiocy of several of those appointed by Trump, their lack of knowledge or concern and their avarice for self-enrichment all the while endangering our country in ways that Conservatives in particular need to look at to see how, even disregarding Trump's total lack of good character, this impacts all of us.
Devos will likely need a separate book to cover her actions.

It is no wonder the low lives in this admin and circles like the Russians -- they aspire to be Russian oligarchs themselves.

Still waiting for any remote sign that she has any concern about this country's children. Better pack a snack and a flashlight. You're going to be out there for a while. I'm so embarrassed for what this country has become.

I'm a mom of 2 autistic children, both of which have been active in Special Olympics. I'm beyond angry that anyone would even consider cutting this program.

In Ontario, Canada we have an Education Minister who thinks making cuts to Autism had to be done to save money. And yet, this lovely government is giving 10 million to HORSE RACING. Yep, they approved of cuts to kids who need specialized education and gave money to a gambling industry. Ontario has gone as batshit crazy as the USA. Because you know, it's all about protecting jobs. WFT?

Moveon does send lots of emails if you sign their petitions ........ they do ask for donations........ so be warned, but they do good things..... And you can unsubscribe anytime. ... And yes I have signed the petition by Mark Pocan who was questioning DeVos on this link someone has already posted >>>>( m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2174895489256846&id=436881033058309 ) Subject: Tell Betsy DeVos not to cut funding for the Special Olympics Hi, I signed a petition to Department of Education, which says: "As part of the 2020 budgeting process Betsy DeVos is proposing morally bankrupt funding cuts which will hurt children with disabilities and working class folks--including nearly $18 million in cuts to the Special Olympics. Tell the Department of Education not to cut funding for vital programs and commit to using public funding to help children who are counting on all of us to look out for them." Will you sign this petition? Click here: petitions.moveon.org/sign/tell-betsy-devos-not?source=s.em.cp&r_by=18808385Thanks!

Yes, she is terrible. No argument. BUT her proposed budget is unlikely to pass Congress, just like the last time she tried to slash education funding in favor of "school choice" programs. I begin to think her outrages are well-timed to deflect from Trump's latest scandal - in this case, to get people to stop talking about the Mueller report. Agreed, though the thought of it enrages me. What a bunch of grifters. BUT, the miniseries about these clowns is gonna be awesome. And you know that there will be one. 😊

I begin to think her outrages are well-timed to deflect from Trump's latest scandal - in this case, to get people to stop talking about the Mueller report. I’m not worried. This is just a show. Her proposals won’t go anywhere except the circular file. Even when both chambers were under Republican control her proposed budget cuts were rejected - twice. There’s even less chance for her budget now that it’s a Dem House. (If only Congress has the power to say, “Three times, you’re out.”) DeVos hasn’t yet figured out that Congress doesn’t care what her budget plans are (heck, they don’t even care about a president’s budget plans; it’s always dead on arrival). They’re going to do what they’ve always done – make the quid-pro-quo back deals out of chamber (we used to call it "horse trading"), move to floor votes and off to appropriations committees. The real drama begins when everybody fights for his/her state or district "earmarks" and "pork." As to DeVos’ principles or priorities, I would think those were already made apparent in her confirmation hearing.

Special Olympics is the highlight of some of these student’s lives, and gives them the biggest sense of pride and self achievement. It teaches them more about existing in the world than some of the regular curriculum does. Teamwork. Dedication. Pride. Dealing with disappointment. Thinking of others. Heck, even taking turns. and isn't that what the USA should be about?

Why on earth are horse racing jobs more important and more valued than hate of a speech therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, or behavior analyst? I’m so sorry that those cuts have been made to the kids who need it the most in your area. It’s heartbreaking.

DeVos decries 'shameful' media 'falsehoods' on Special Olympics budget cuts
BY MICHAEL BURKE - 03/27/19 01:44 PM EDT Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on Wednesday denounced what she described as "shameful" media coverage of "falsehoods" about the Department of Education's proposed funding cuts to the Special Olympics. “It is unacceptable, shameful and counterproductive that the media and some members of Congress have spun falsehoods and fully misrepresented the facts," DeVos said in a statement. "Make no mistake: we are focused every day on raising expectations and improving outcomes for infants and toddlers, children and youth with disabilities, and are committed to confronting and addressing anything that stands in the way of their success," she added. ** thehill.com/homenews/administration/436075-devos-decries-shameful-media-falsehoods-on-special-olympics-budgetJust like dt supports a disabled reporter, NOT!

Did she still end it with - we cannot fund it all but there are some non proft organizations that can help? Here you go: “Given our current budget realities, the federal government cannot fund every worthy program, particularly ones that enjoy robust support from private donations" ETA: Special Olympics is not an ordinary organization. It IS special and is for everyone who wants to participate, regardless of their disability. The Special Olympics are part of an international program for athletes. The federal government does not need to fund her private charter schools of which 25% are failing according to the statement from Mark Pocan and she refused to answer when he asked how she planning on recouping those dollars!!

Cut the funding for crappy charter and private schools. Those can both be funded through other means.
FTR there are charter schools in my area that are public charter schools which means they are kind of part of the district and not some company. I have nothing against those charter schools and think they do good things.
