I am a Susan but Smith is NOT my last name.. not even close. I will always know who Susan Smith stands for.. (UGGGG) I swear how does this person even connect me to that name?? (Other than she doesn't care about anything else but herself)..
If you don't know who she is I am sure there is a whole wiki page on her.

I wouldn't assume it was on purpose or because she connects you to Susan Smith.

Ignore it.
She may not even know how/why that name popped out of her mouth. Now, if it happens again..........

There are probably 100s, if not 1000s of Susan Smiths out there. She might not even know who Susan Smith is.

Do you kind of look like Susan Smith? I don't think of you as Susan Smith. I think of you as Rick.

Had to Google her. I’m assuming you mean the convict?
Smith is such a common last name, as is the first name Susan. I wouldn’t think it was purposeful.

I have a friend whose maiden name was Susan Smith. Her brother got into trouble at 18, and my friend went to visit him in prison. When she gave her name on visiting day, the woman behind her gave her a very knowing look and said:” I’ve used that name before , too “.
From a certain generation, it was the most generic name possible. Like Tim Jones or John Smith.

FWIW, I went to school with Sue Smith, too. Definitely not a child killer! I have a friend whose maiden name was Susan Smith. Why do you assume she doesn't care? My name is Patti and people have inadvertently called me Susan or Sarah since grade school. I have no idea why or why it has continued into adulthood, but I never once thought it was because they didn't care about me or my name. And, if you have to refer the Peas to a wiki page on Susan Smith, then I doubt that person knew who she is and was implying anything about you.

I've never heard of Susan Smith, either, so I would DEF think it was just a misspeak on the other person's part. Perhaps she was thinking about someone else named Smith while she was talking to you, and glommed your two names together. It could have been totally innocent.

Ugh... I had nightmares for weeks when that was happening in the news. My younger two kids were the same age as her boys at the time. While I wouldn't assume she called you that name on purpose as a reference to that case, of course, I could see where it might trigger bad feelings. Hopefully she gets your name right if there's a next time.

I am sure it was a mistake.. it was just from a person who I am not fond of at all... It just made me stop and go.. really.. not that name.. I did take that incident to heart at that time. I think I was pregnant or trying to get pregnant at that time.. so yeah I was obsessed with the news and believed her at the beginning. She is the one that now makes me doubt anyone who says that they are innocent in these situations.
I'm not dwelling on it.. Just a passing thought...

We were talking about a tv show and I was thinking Al Bundy and said Ted Bundy instead <ugh>
