One of the designers at Sizzix posted this on her FB page:
Sounds like there was a layoff at Sizzix. Anyone know what's going on over there?

No I don't but will be interested to know. Was shopping on their site this weekend. They really didn't have what I wanted though.

Looks like they're giving all their money to their lawyers to sue everyone else into also having to do layoffs!!

Ummm, that is interesting.. I have an acquaintance that sells Sizzix exclusively through her company. I wonder if this will impact her business. She says she is the largest dealer outside the company..

That was interesting, but not in a good way.
It makes me wonder......if they are having financial difficulties to the point of laying off employees, it might explain the sudden lawsuit against their competitors. Maybe they are trying to win the legal lottery, or maybe they are hoping to become more financially stable if they can get rid of their main competition, or maybe both.
I had heard here that they had a new company CEO or whatever. He's from Europe, according to those reviews, so he probably hasn't heard about the fallout from other companies that brought lawsuits. Provo Craft hemmoraged customers, many of whom went to Silhouette and never looked back. Many of us will never buy a MISTI because of the MSP lawsuit against Tonic and Stampin' Up.
I own a lot of Sizzix products and dies, but after learning about their lawsuits against their competitors, I won't be buying anything more with their name on it.

The thing that confuses me about this mess, and please correct me if I'm missing something, is that Stephanie Barnard and her Stamps of Life is being sued. Isn't she pretty closely related to Sizzix? Doesn't she design for them? Why would they sue her? Color me confused! I'm pretty sure that I read that she sued them in return. Good for her!

I think she designed for them and then also went off and did some stuff on her own too. Just speculating but maybe there were things she pitched to them and they turned it down so she ran with it herself? I can’t blame her, I used to freelance for a few different companies and they don’t always take everything you put out. I would think though that for something like this they would have had her sign a noncompete. The whole thing is so weird.

Stephanie Bernard now has Stamps of Life. She sells online and at Scrapbook shows now. I took a class with her last year at Scrapbook Expo. I reached out to Nancy Nally of Scrapbook Update (she often has the scoop) and she heard about it, but hasn't followed up yet due to a family emergency, but said she will.

The Sizzix lawsuit is the stupidest I've seen in a while. They're suing smaller companies like Hero Arts, who also make thin open dies.
If they win, all that's going to happen is that MORE people will buy from Ali Express or Amazon. I am not dropping $25+ on a set of nested dies in normal shapes like rectangles. I'm just not. I try never to buy anything that is designed by someone else via the cheap Amazon "shops", but if it's a generic shape or icon, and I'm OK w/it not being designed by a "name" designer, I'm going to buy it for <$10.
I do try to buy from HA or Stamps of Life or Sizzix, if I like the design and it's on sale. But killing the American competition isn't going to do jack to save them when their foreign competition will keep right on going.
Terrible waste of money and resources, IMO.

I was hoping that the layoffs were not related to the lawsuit. Maybe the layouts are the result of the new CEO.

When I heard the Hero Arts thing that was it for me. I’ll be buying a different crank machine when my Big Shot wears out. I think I will let their CS know that for the little good it will do.

Yeah I was going to mention SU btw they're also dropping their trimmer so stock up on blades because you won't be able to get them once the current annual catalogue expires!

I noticed AE had die knock offs yesterday of dies that are just hitting stores this month including TH and that new sizzix camera card die set
