few years? I looked it up and was amazed to see it is now a Hilton property.
Our 25th is coming up in a few months and we spent 2 nights at the hotel way back in 1995 just after our first wedding anniversary. I remember how beautiful the hotel area and beach was. We went on long walks through the neighborhoods and parallel to the ocean and had such a nice quiet time.
We previously stayed in the Ocean front Tower building but I want to get a room in the original building (they call those the Victorian rooms) for this stay.
We have just enough Hilton points for 2 nights so we would only need to pay for 2 to 3 more.
Would you recommend this hotel still? Did you like the onsite dining? Did you do anything fun while there? Could use some ideas.
Thanks.

We stayed there last year and used Hilton points. It was beautiful. They had a s’mores on the beach thing that we bought and my 7 yo loved it. We had chips/salsa, cheese/crackers, and then grilled hot dogs and s’mores by a beach campfire. They served drinks and we watched the sunset on the beach. Because of the 7yo, we didn’t do fancy dinners but there were a ton of restaurants in or near the hotel. We didn’t drive anywhere and maybe walked to an off property restaurant once. That was during the week of July 4th and things were busy but didn’t seem overwhelming or overly crowded. My mom and my mil were with us and they did a historic tour of the property. They both loved it— the history and some of the haunted stories. We enjoyed it enough to go again this summer and my dad heard so much about it from my mom, my son, and me that he wants to go this year. I live driving distance though so I may have a different opinion if I had to fly there. I plan to make it an annual beach trip though.

We stayed there this past February, on Valentine’s Day. We stayed in a suite in one of the towers. Our room was kind of dated and not very clean. I expected more from such an expensive hotel. It was raining heavily and water was coming in through both sliding patio doors onto the carpet. It was cool to stay in an iconic hotel but next time I’d stay in a cute boutique hotel in San Diego and just go out to Coronado for the day.

We used HH points for 2 of our 4 night stay last summer. We had a ground floor room in Ocean Towers, patio instead of balcony. Patio faced ocean, was fairly private due to hedges and was about 4 times the size of the balconies. And we didn’t pay for ocean view since it was ground floor. Rooms were in need of refurbishment but overall, we absolutely loved it. I highly recommend.

That is interesting to hear (also judy) that the tower was a bit shabby / in need of refurbishment because when I was there in 1995, I thought the same thing. It was quite expensive back then but I remember the room being very underwhelming and a bit shabby. I believe that at that time, the original hotel building did not have central air so my DH thought the rooms would be more comfortable in the tower. Based on the room photos and amenities descriptions, the original hotel has been significantly updated since our trip.
Fun memory, I had my first ever Monte Cristo sandwich at the restaurant that is on the outside veranda of the original hotel building. It was very warm sitting out there that day and the sandwich was deliciously decadent.

I still love it. I also recommend the sand castle lessons. You may think you don't need a lesson in how to build a sand castle, but you really do.
