I am a "lead" on the ND site, for my neighborhood. From time to time, I have been sent a name and the directions are to verify that the person lives in our neighborhood....so that the person can then post message or read the posts by others.
What I find very curious, in the 6 months I have had this duty, I have 4 people who don't live here, or are putting false
information in order to be added to our neighborhood's discussion.
My mind is boggled. Why? What does the person think is happening over on ND that merits a fake name or address? --lost dogs and debating a city service or the bond election......that is as exciting as it gets. (although this AM, I was reading a long discussion and learned a city councilman's wife used a fake name and got called out (and probably her account disabled, IDK).
So, why do you think a person would do this? I can't figure out what is to be gained? I did not approve the person who gave a church address, nor the one with a fake address as belonging to our neighborhood.

Maybe if they want to advertise their business where they are more affluent? Not sure. That's my initial thought.

I recently changed my name on next door to a false one because a creepy guy tracked me down by my user name (I used my first 2 initials and last name, so he had to work at it).

I joined when it first started up and I used a fake name. I am very careful where I put any of my personal information online and didn't want my name and address so public. Originally they listed the entire address. Now days they just list the street, not the house number but even that is too much for me with my name attached. I still do business and post on ND but everyone just thinks my name is the fake name, no biggie. All except for my neighbor across the street. She asked if we had someone living with us. I giggled and told her the truth.
I think it is a lot harder to use a fake name these days. I'm glad that I got in under the wire.

My neighborhood facebook page is frequented by a handyman who doesn't live in our neighborhood, but does tons of work here. Whenever someone asks for a recommendation for someone to do work at their house he chimes in that he'll stop by and give an estimate.

We have one who does the same thing.
However, he lists his "home neighborhood" as what is real (I presume).
I have learned that it gives a person the option of posting only in their neighborhood, or in the adjoining neighborhoods. I am annoyed because some people plaster their message to all neighborhoods--and I really don't care that they have a lost dog that is a long way from my home....or that they saw someone suspicious in the alley and it is so far from me.

Used to live in the neighborhood
Live in a bordering neighborhood
Have family in that neighborhood
Want to move to the neighborhood and want info
Friends have told them how funny / crazy / ridiculous the ND group is
But most likely, nosy as all get out and need to know what is going on everywhere.
